Dran had a relatively normal childhood on Bajor. It was when he became an adult that his life became interesting.
At the age of 20 he became a well known figure in the Bajoran Resistance for the final 3 years of the occupation.
Once it was over, Dran began to be a mainstream figure in Bajor joining the Federation, but when that failed, he was granted a posting as an Ambassador to the Federation.
As an Ambassador, Dran was a major proponent of bringing Starfleet to help rebuild after the Occupation, but he also desired that Bajor remain in control and the leaders of the efforts. He also met an Admiral by name of Eric Shotton during the early years of his Ambassadorship.
When he was 38, Dran reportedly resigned as an Ambassador and left Bajor–enrolling in Starfleet Academy. He got in mainly because he provided Admiral Shotton as his reference with a glowing review from the other man.
The information below is known only to Dran, Admiral Shotton, and one of Dran’s former assistants who’s been sworn to secrecy
The reason for his resignation and application to Starfleet remains a mystery to most. He and Admiral Shotton were both deep in a bribery scandal that would ruin both of their careers if it came out, so Dran resigned before it could happen and fled to keep the media from discovering it.
