Physical Description:

Janusz Korczak is of average human height with a lithe, athletic build that hides remarkable core and cardiovascular strength. Brown hair and brown eyes are the features of a nondescript appearance.

Medical History:

No medical issues. Subject is extremely fit and takes great care of his physical health.

Psychological Profile:

Korczak is an unassuming man physically, but this offsets an extremely advanced intelligence. He is a keen student of behavior in sentient species, and has been referred to as a ‘biological lie detector’ by many associates. This reputation is tempered by an almost conflicting reputation of empathy and sincere compassion. This juxtaposition of skill and conscious makes for a person with the capacity to do great good for those in his care; or equally great harm to those he finds himself set against. This, in turn, is offset by a sense of humor that endears him to many; and his off-duty hours are usually filled with social activities fulfilling his desire to be in the company of others.

Korczak does carry a great deal of grief concerning the loss of his sister and nephew (named after Janusz), and a desire for retribution against those responsible for their deaths.

It must be noted that subject has been diagnosed with Hyperthymesia, but seems not to have the associated compulsions. A rare and possibly unique side effect of his condition is the inability of empaths and telepathy to read him clearly. It has been described as trying to listen to music through a great deal of static.

Biography:

Born on Earth, Janusz Korczak is the youngest child of Dr. Stefan Korczak and retired Rear Admiral Miska Korczak of Star Fleet. Janusz spent the majority of his life on Earth, but traveled extensively with his family.

Janusz was a prodigy of sorts as a child, expressing his uncanny intelligence at an early age. He developed quickly mentally, but his physical development was average. This lead to him being advanced quickly through school where he excelled academically, but his social development suffered somewhat as he graduated from his primary schooling at the age of fourteen with his classmates averaging eighteen years of age. This ‘social strata’ intrigued Janusz to the point he decided to study and become a psychologist.

University was an entirely different world for Korczak. He was readily accepted as a peer due to his intellect, although some considered more of a ‘mascot’, and soon had a cadre of friends. He also began to mature physically, and was a member of several club athletic squads. He graduated with honors from Kozminski University and was asked to apply for a Rhodes Scholarship; which he was selected for. He attended Oxford University for four years, graduating Summa Cum Laude with multiple degrees. His academic prowess was not unnoticed by the Federation, and he was asked to take a position at Star Fleet Academy as a visiting professor.

Korczak spent three years at the Academy teaching. During his tenure at the Academy, he received word that his sister (wife of Star Fleet Captain Gregori Rasputin) and nephew had been killed in a terrorist attack on the habitat they lived in on Mars. Janusz took three months off to attend to familial matters, and returned to work. After a year back he was recruited by Federation Security to become an interrogator. His specialized training in exobiology coupled with his Doctorates in Psychiatry and Psychology made him an ideal candidate for REDACTED

ENTRIES REDACTED

After his assignments with FedSec, he was transferred back to Star Fleet, where he was granted an officer’s commission as a Lieutenant Commander and assigned to Star Fleet Command as a Interrogator / Translator for several different task forces. His work here garnered him a selection to the Academy as a full-time instructor to the fledgling Counselors. The switch from interrogation to Counseling was not unexpected, as Korczak had been vocal in many meetings at SF Command about the need to increase the number of qualified Counselors in the fleet. He argued that if mental health was made a priority, the number of incidents on and off vessels would decrease, thus freeing up more Security resources to deal with external threats and investigations of incidents of a criminal nature. This argument had apparently been accepted and Janusz spent the next four years training and assessing new Counselors and Medical Staff, as well as conducting training in the Security Section with regards to suspect interviews and interrogation. He developed a reputation within the Security training as a man who unsettled even the most practiced suspects. This was in stark contrast to his reputation in the Medical Section as an empathetic listener, an approachable and solid sounding board, and a much-sought-after mediator for Cadets and staff who needed help dealing with all manner of personal issues and conflicts within and outside of their duties.

Korczak enjoyed his time at the Academy, but he felt that he could do more. He requested a transfer to the main fleet but, at the suggestion of the Academy Commandant, took a position aboard the Academy ship USS Challenger. The Commandant wanted him to have ship-board experience before sending him out to main fleet. The Commandant also felt his teaching experience would be an asset to both the Cadets and the staff and crew of the ship. Korczak agreed, and left the Academy at the end of the semester to join up with his new assignment.

He spent a year on the Academy vessel. He had settled into a rhythm when he was suddenly recalled by Star Fleet. He was assigned to an unspecified Joint Task Force of Star Fleet Intelligence and FedSec. The sudden disruption left him feeling more like a pawn than a valued asset, so he requested an assignment further from Earth. It took several months, but then orders came through - CNS, USS Viking. The ship and crew had a troubled history, but with a brand new ship bearing the name and a crew looking for a fresh start, it seemed the perfect place for a Counselor of his talents. He left Earth after spending a week at home and traveled to the ship.

His time o n the Viking was seen as successful, even though the ship was decommissioned. Korczak was instrumental in assessing and diagnosing several crew members with deep-seated emotional and mental trauma; and was credited with maintaining a higher than average level of mental health amongst a crew that had had many instances of mental and emotional conflicts. When the ship was decommissioned, Korczak was recalled to Starbase 1 to await his next assignment.
