She does suffer from chronic migraines, but those are mostly under her control with a medicine which is administered everyday. However, there are times she has to go off duty for a few hours to deal with them, but that is rare.

Personal History
Born and raised in Israel, Ishtar is a woman of tradition. She never wears her hair free, she respects her elders and understands the power which surrounds her in its blanket of vibrant energy. As a child, she was always the reserved and modest one, often times removing herself from the social cliques, preferring the company of a good book. This love for the world of words led to an undying curiosity, molding her into the prospective scienist she would later aspire to become.

At the age of twelve, her mother passed away after contracting an illness that left her severely debilitated to the point of complete and mental exhaustion, Ishtar discovered an escape in studying what happened to her, in effort to reconcile the fact her mother was dead. In a way the trauma brought forth her fascination with biology, bringing to her attention the rug of who she truly was beneath her reserved, modest exterior.

After her mother’s death, her father and her brother relocated the family to England, where she completed the remainder of her secondary education. It was no secret that Ishtar despised her time in England, but she knew better than to question the decisions her father and older brother had made. Graduating with honours, Ishtar felt the urge to relieve herself from the confines of the planet Earth. Having always been infatuated with the tumultuous waves of the Vulcan oceans, she applied for the Academy of Science.

Twice, she was rejected from the Academy, where she spent time with the Cambridge institute of science, refining her ability as a scientist, before submitting one final application. Seeing her persistence in this matter, they accepted her and moderately impressed with her knowledge of marine biology and geology, they allowed her an amateur position to study the oceans of Vulcan. Esctatic, she told her family of this accomplish, but both feared she would lose her culture by attending another planet for school.

For two years, she studied at the Academy, focusing primarily on biology and biochemistry. After getting her degree in those areas, she found she had quite enjoyed being able to work personally with the Vulcan scientists with their oceans. And in effort to explore more, she submitted an application to Starfleet Academy, spending another two years at the institution, where she trained in various other areas of study.

Graduating from the Academy, she was assigned to the USS Melrose, where she worked beneath Lt. David Nockshar. However, after a large feud with one of the other JOs, she requested transfer to an opposing ship. For the next three years, she climbed through the ranks, reaching that of LT JG. It was in her third year she was approached by Doctor Louis Rowndy, who questioned whether or not she wished to spearhead a voyage to the bottom of the oceans on the newly discovered planet Mochova IV. Without hesitation, she accepted, leaving her position as head of Biochemistry on the USS Garfield.

During her assignment to the USS Garfield, Ishtar fell for Aaris Kai, a Betazoid engineer. Prior to the expedition to Machova, three years into their relationship, Aaris proposed to Ishtar and they were wed just under a month before their expedition. Two months into their journey, their vessel was compromised, nearly sinking to the bottom of the Marchovan sea. If it had not been for Aaris’ sacrifice, none of the seven remaining officers would have survived. Ishtar may have won her life back that day, but she lost her best friend.

After the expedition was complete, Ishtar authored “Journey to the Bottom of Marchova,” Aaris’ name written as tribute of her work. For a few months she struggled with the decision to return to Starfleet, Garfield’s open offer hanging before her. Although accepting his death, Aaris’ memory was far too painful a thought to return to her previous ship. Instead, when finally deciding to throw her hand back into Starfleet, she accepted a position on the USS Olympic.
