Character Biography

Name : Jasmijn U’Aghi DeVries
Gender : Female
Species : 50% Klingon, 50% Human
Parental : Human Father, Klingon Mother
Nationality : Dutch
Rank : Lt. Cmdr.
Position : XO

Personality
Jasmijn is a mixture of both of her cultures, a complex creature who is more than meets the eye. Upon first glance, many might consider her the epitome of the Klingon Empire: brash, unforgiving, feisty. However, when one gets to know here, they will find a woman who is honest, considerate and even the slightest bit kind. She is a humorous type who makes remarks to earn a laugh, or gives that crooked smile she seems known for. Beware, though, an angry Jasmijn is a force to be reckoned with.

Appearance
Jasmijn, due to her half human nature, has a greatly denounced cranial ridge, but it does remain present upon her forehead. She had darker skin than most Dutch people would, as her mother was much tanner than her father. Her eyes are pale, piercing in their nature, very seldom are they calm and collective. Her stature is fairly lean for a woman with Klingon DNA, she sports slim muscles and a towering frame of over 6 feet in height.

Mental History
Due to her hybrid nature, she has faced her own inner battle most of her life. In the beginning, she found it difficult to determine who she was and seemed lost. Now, however, she is fairly healthy in the mind. She does have a certain ADD about her, but she attempts to keep this under her control at all times. From her service with the Marines, she has rare bouts of trauma-related anxiety, but it is nothing to be concerned with.

Medical History
Due to her hybridcy, she is genetically different than both humans and Klingons, however, this does not seem to impede her health. She does her best to pursue an active lifestyle, in order to ensure her own health. Bearing several different scars, they give her occasional tinges of arthritic pain, but she views them as a sign of honour rather than a nusiance. Thus, she is quite healthy for someone of her size and gender.

Personal History
Born in Denmark, one would have expected this Half-Klingon to grow up soft-hearted and weak.. but that is far from the truth. DeVries was born to a Klingon scientist– an oxymoron in the name to many, but despite her drive to knowledge El’iah was nothing short of harsh and honourable, just as the rest of her people. At the young age of five, El’iah divorced her father, Cole DeVries, after a long, drawn out fight. In a battle for custody, El’iah was given primary custody, immediately moving Jasmijn to H’atoria, where she began her training to become a Klingon warrior. Belittled for her hybrid nature, Jasmijn found it difficult to keep up with the other kids, often times being shunned and pushed away as if some kind of vermin. Without the direct support of her mother, Jasmijn was forced to learn on her own.

When she was twelve years old, she met a Klingon elder by the name of Okarth. Like her, he was outcasted by society, despite once being a valiant warrior. Seeing himself in Jasmijn’s tenacity, he offered to help her train. From that day forwards, Okarth became her mentor, and a valued friend. Through her hardships as a teenager, and the rigour of strenuous training, Okarth pushed her to her limits, testing everything she thought she knew. And by the age of sixteen, she was prepared for the Age of Ascension, her ascension from child to adult.. to warrior.

Passing, only with the strength she had learned from Okarth, she proved she was capable of possessing the same power and honor as any other member of her people. She proved she was worthy.

After the ritual was complete, she returned to her mother, who held her in little regard. She wasn’t certain what to do with her daughter, and began to push her away. Having desired to make her proud, Jasmijn was met with an air of disappointment, as she found her mother indifferent to her accomplishments. Hurt, and a bit furious, she left the planet, returning to Earth to spend the next year with her father. It was during this time she discovered she still wished to be a soldier, but not for the Klingon people. She would never be good enough for them, and that she knew. Thus, she went for the next best thing: the Marine Corps.

Through hardwork and perseverance, she made her way through that Academy, her name written down in their books as the girl with an attitude. And when you’re surrounded by Marines, that is saying something.

Not much is known about her time with the Marines, as she keeps those years quite private to herself. She does not discuss the losses she found, nor the traumatic events which have come to shape her as a person. However, she will admit that she met a man by the name of Devon. He was one of the few people she actually got along with, making him one of the few people she had come to fully respect. Working beside him, as another squad leader, the two of them were almost inseparable. They became a powerhouse, and people knew better than to mess with the other, when their friend was around. He, in truth, became her brother.

After several years, Jasmijn found it was time to switch professions. She loved being with the Marine Corps, but she wanted something more than that, something more than being just the brawns of the operation. Resigning her post, she headed off to Starfleet Academy, using her previous training as Marine Intel to power through the Intelligence track, and the Command course. Right out of the academy, she was assigned to the USS Jinx as a Lt (JG), as the resident Intel officer. However, after defying a direct order and striking a visitor (the reason, in her mind, was quite valid), she was demoted to Ensign and reassigned to a Starbase.

Over the years, she worked her way back through the ranks, regaining the respect she had previously lost. Assignment after assignment, Jasmijn became quite the nomad– often switching assignments once every few months, or whenever an Intel officer was needed elsewhere. Finally, after working her damndest to prove she could be trusted (despite having two more reprimands under her belt), Jasmijn was promoted to Lt. Cmdr. and assigned to the Ark Angel as her Executive Officer.

Jasmijn is far from done with her journey, and she has more than a little to learn along the way. Although, her path to this point has already shaped a rather.. studious woman. A studious woman you don’t want to mess with.
