Kin is of average height for her species and wears the traditional dreadlock and braided hair of her species. She posses an athletic build and maintains a strict regimen of exercise. This compliments the unusually high muscle density of her species. Her appearance belies the natural resilience of the Kreetassan species.
No illnesses, no injuries.
Kin is a student of protocol, just like her species is known for. She differs from most of the Kreetasan people in that she has worked very hard to curtail her ingrained reaction to take offense at perceived slights or lapses in protocol. However, her mindfulness of such matters has served her in good stead with regards to her chosen specialty of Diplomatic Security. She is quite adept at languages, and shows an above average ability to learn and retain linguistics.
Kin is, at her core, a kind and gentle being. She experiences wonder at new sights and when interacting with new species, and is an astute surveyor of body language and speech patterns.
Born on Kreetasa, Kin’s parents were Custodians of the Alvera Trees in front of the Hall of Diplomacy on that world, and were greatly revered for their prowess in ceremonial protocols. Kin was raised to revere the etiquette, courtesy, and ceremony of the Kreetasan people, but longed t experience life outside their strict codes.
In her sixteenth year, her school was visited by a Federation Diplomatic entourage. The Federation members were there to learn Diplomatic Etiquette with regards to the Kreetassan people, in an effort to bring them into the Federation. Kin was overwhelmed with the new races and customs she was shown, and wanted to learn more.
As part of their diplomatic efforts, the Federation contingent set up an Academy scholarship for applicants to apply to if they wanted to take part in a ‘cultural exchange’ of sorts. Kin applied immediately, and with her advantage of having her parents in a position of some prestige and having a knack for languages, she was accepted as the second Kreetassan student in Academy, the first being her best friend Toklan.
She left for the Academy just after her eighteenth birthday, having been given training in ‘dialing back’ the Kreetassan tendency to perceive insults and slights. She and Toklan arrived and were immediately the center of much discussion and Academy drama, being a new species and all. The first year was very difficult for the two, and Toklan returned to Kreetassan. Left on her own, she began slowing in her progress academically, and was remanded to a mentor to assist her. This proved to be the spark that she needed.
The mentor was one Lieutenant Commander Gron’lik, a Tellarite who specialized in inter-species hostile negotiations. In her he saw the potential for someone to be mindful of propriety, but also be able to build bridges between factions. He encouraged her to delve into the diplomatic aspects of her studies. This she did and her academic career began to improve dramatically.
Having found her calling, partially, the time came for her to choose a Section. Discussing it with her mentor, she decided on Security. It seemed an odd choice for the usually reserved and soft-spoken Cadet, but it was actually ideal. She channeled her innate desire for protocol and etiquette into a drive for adherence to the rule of law and policy. She coupled with an emphasis on Diplomatic Security, a lesser-known specialty within the Security section that dealt with diplomatic events, protection of high-profile public and government individuals in transit, and who worked closely with Federation Security. She excelled at this, making a name for herself as both a keen observer and a solid asset to a diplomatic team.
Graduating in the top ten percent of her class, Kin was offered a myriad of assignments, but chose to stay near Earth at Station One. It was a moderately-prestigious posting, as she was assigned to the Diplomatic Corps. She stayed posted there for nine months, and was then assigned to the USS Athena.
