Character Biography

Akane was born on Earth in Kyoto, Japan to her Napean mother Jaala and Human father Haruo. She is the youngest of 3 with an older brother, Kichi & an older sister, Mayumi. Akane was a quiet and thoughtful child but always had lots of friends. She was always kind and compassionate and the other children wanted to be around her. As she grew up she took a keen interest in psychology and although her Napean heritage gave her a degree of empathic abilities, she was more interested in finding out why people felt and acted as they did, not just what they were feeling.

Her older brother Kichi was already in Star-Fleet studying medicine when Akane joined the academy and she still catches up with him regularly on shore leave. Her sister Mayumi had a hard time dealing with her mixed heritage and left the family home in her late teens. The family doesn’t know where she is presently.

Once Akane graduated from the academy she wanted to experience life on board a starship and was assigned to the USS Lexington for her first assignment. She enjoyed life on board ship but felt that she could be more useful on a busier ship so after 2 years she transferred to the USS Draco. She became involved with the executive officer, Jon but the relationship quickly devolved into one of jealousy, manipulation and violence. Akane never told anyone and just put up with it as by all accounts he was an excellent officer and she didn’t want to jeopardize his career. After one particularly bad fight Akane ended up in sickbay with several broken bones. She talked her way out of what had happened but she knew that she couldn’t carry on with Jon. She decided to take a career break and return home for what turned out to be nearly 3 years. Although she enjoyed being around her family again, she knew she didn’t want to be defined by what Jon had done to her so decided to take the OP42 posting to try and regain her life and confidence again.
