Character Biography

Kriv was born on Bajor in 2370, to a secret union of his father and mother. His mother died giving birth, and he grew up with stories of her, and knows he’ll see her again one day. Most of his childhood was uneventful (well…for a Bajoran).

His father was an engineer and a civilian contractor on Deep Space 9. During this time, Kriv would learn from his father the value of hard work, and dedication to the job. He’d also learn the skill of working as a team to get a job done.

At the age of 15, Kriv followed in his father’s footsteps as an engineer, first as an apprentice, then as a full fledged engineer when he turned 18. This would slowly lead to his being noticed by various Starfleet officers on DS9.

One visiting officer would approach him when he was off duty, having overheard Kriv’s desire to join Starfleet. The offer was for Kriv to join Starfleet, and later serve on this guy’s ship after graduation from the Academy. Seeing no other offers, Kriv jumped on the opportunity.

At the academy, Kriv experimented with different techniques, many of which were called risky. One of these resulted in him taking a burst of plasma to his right hand. While all of the major damage was healed, he retains a scar on the back of his hand.

Following his Academy graduation, Kriv went on to serve aboard the USS Washington, under the same CO who got him into the Academy. A few times on this ship, he was trusted with command when most of the senior staff was off the bridge (e.g. at diplomatic functions or in dock).

Following a two-year stint on the Washington, Kriv transferred to the USS Vulcan, a ship designed specifically for helping ships do emergency repairs in the field, by carrying a large compliment of Engineers that they could supply to other ships, as well as a large number of industrial replicators to help make parts.

The Vulcan ended up in an ambush while helping one ship, once. Kriv was instrumental in helping to keep the ship together until reinforcements could arrive. For this, he got a commendation. However, it came at a cost. Following an incident in which a Plasma conduit blew and spewed hot plasma into his left eye, Kriv had to have his left eye removed, and opted for an occular implant to replace it. This implant was much like the ones given to Lieutenant LaForge of Enterprise fame. Kriv’s, however, consisted of a completely reconstructed physical eye structure.
