How do I update my profile Member Since date to when I joined in 2005? I want to say in was January 14th.

Condor

You don’t. We don’t allow end users to change the value of that field.

The Personnel Department is capable of editing that value, and has indicated that they’ll be willing to handle that if you can prove the date. You’d have to ask them for more details (and I suspect Dan might offer some more shortly).

Joe

I’ve added an update to the news page. The PDept will be handling these requests. This is only relevant to members who joined prior to the launch of Exodus.

Please post any request to the PDept board and include: (1) your join date, and (2) an archive link to a character post from that time. The effWeBB archive is currently available. Members who joined while we were on WeBBspace may need to wait until that archive becomes available.

Thanks,
Daniel

What is the concern that necessitates proving the accuracy of the date?

Adam

It’s most likely just a verification issue. I saved a link to my first post from way back in 2006 just in case. Eventually I’ll get my own profile updated.

I don’t know if it answers your questions at all, but it helped me figure out exactly when my first post was. I was going to guess 2005 or 2006. I was off by a whole year. I didn’t actually create my first post until Aug of 2007.

-Tony

It is primarily a verification issue, as Mike and Tony have indicated. We didn’t want this to turn into into a “I guess I joined in 2008 so let’s say that” and then it turns out to be something else entirely. It also prevent from the potential of some more “wilder” claims :P. Pretty much the reasons why the Profile page was designed so that join date was one of the fields that could not be altered by the members themselves. The alternative was for the PDept to look up the info ourselves (which is almost trivial for ranks, but a lot of work for join dates).

That being said, I’ve already assisted in one or two situations where we could not find the archive post (there’s a 12 month period of effWeBB posts missing around 2003/2004) and we were able to find some other records to infer the join date.

Boys, boys, boys… (i.e. Joe/Tony/Daniel),

I’ve been around long enough and know the three of you are well aware of my ineptitude with programming… that I have to have the post rather close to the bottom of the list of people that should ever be trusted to wonky around with the site. Therefore, Joe (LOL) you should know better than to think me 1) silly enough to think I would EVER get permission to do the modification myself and 2) sensible enough to simply request the proper mod from whomever could do so.

Thanks though! Have a great day to you all!

What if they don’t have a link at all? I’ve been here for five (5) years but don’t have a link to any of my characters. (Computer error) So I can’t prove my claim. Do I just wait until you all get the archives up and running and update my member since date when you can?

Travis Good

This isn’t a situation of “proving a claim”. We’re simply trying to ensure that the information being entered is as accurate as possible and can be verified (since memory is fallible - which we’ve already seen this we started this process).

For members that joined before WeBBspace but are having difficulty finding a link or post, I’ve been helping out where possible.

For member that joined while we were on WeBBspace (i.e. less than 10 years ago), you will probably have to wait until the WeBBspace archives become available. It’s really not the end of the world if there’s a few months delay in having a profile’s join date updated. Truthfully, it’s actually easier for the PDept as it breaks up the work a little bit.
