TECH’s bylaw requires that we make reports any time that public-facing changes to the site software are made, in order to document exactly what was changed. This is what we did in January:

Version 1.4.0 - January 6, 2019

New features for the New Year

  • Created Statistics app to measure and graph Membership count and other things
  • Implemented Ship Profiles
  • Added Active Member List
  • Added STFList
  • Completed Application List now tracks more details about the placement
  • Completed Application List is now paginated
  • New layout for New Member Application to reduce confusion
  • Vacancies are now included in Fleet Reports
  • Fixed a bug where the “Go back” button was missing from GM report submissions

Version 1.3.4 - January 4, 2019
Another critical patch to fix end-of-year reporting behavior.

Since it is a topic of general interest, I’ll note that the new statistics module is currently kept semi-private because several of the operations it can do are very taxing on the server’s performance, so we don’t want people to play with it lest they start slowing the site down for everyone who is just trying to post. However, here are some official membership numbers since we’ve moved to Exodus (July 2018 is excluded because the migration was still taking place at that time):

Aug. 1, 2018 108
Sept. 1, 2018 104
Oct. 1, 2018 99
Nov. 1, 2018 90
Dec. 1, 2018 92
Jan. 1, 2019 97
Feb. 1, 2019 101

These are slightly higher than the numbers in the earlier half of 2018 (which are taken from the old Zeitgeist app):

Nov. 1, 2017 96
Dec. 1, 2017 93
Jan. 1, 2018 92
Feb. 1, 2018 84
Mar. 1, 2018 94
Apr. 1, 2018 90
May. 1, 2018 84

We’ve also added a number of additional statistical features that did not previously exist under WeBBSpace. One of those is the ability to check what the official membership count is every single day. Our highest official count since the Exodus migration was August 21, with 111 members. Our lowest official count outside of the migration period was 90, which was hit on November 1 and several days in October just before that one. These are “official” counts, where “official” means that we count any user who has posted anywhere on the site in any capacity at all within 30 days, because that’s the closest approximation we have to the definition of member in MOO. We have also started recording the number of members who have posted in character within the past 15 days. Doing so is actually a bit more revealing of what the actual activity level is at any given moment.

The TECH report will be late because I’m still wrapping up functionality for the EGO election and Awards, which are late because I had a hastily planned business trip last week. I expect that at least the EGO election functionality to be deployed to the server later today; the Awards may take slightly more time or I may split them up into a series of smaller releases.

Joe

Sounds good. Thanks for all the info and thanks TECH for all the work put into the site.

Adam
