Personnel Department Report - March 2019

Placements overall

There were 6 applications processed in the month of March. One applicant was a returning member who requested a specific ship. All six applicants were placed on their ship by the Personnel Department.

An additional application was not processed due to being non-responsive to emails.

Academy vs Non-Academy
= Requests =
2 (33%) Academy
2 (33%) Main Fleet
2 (33%) Abramsverse

= Placements =
2 (33%) Academy
2 (33%) Main Fleet
2 (33%) Abramsverse
(Everyone was placed in the Academy who requested the Academy.)

Placement Statistics

= Posting Speed Requested=
0 (0%) Infrequent
1 (17%) Slow
3 (50%) Average
2 (33%) Regular
0 (0%) Frequent

=Posting speed placed=
1 (17%) Slow
5 (83%) Medium

Comments: Don’t let the above numbers deceive you… The one “slow” requesting new member requested Abramsverse, so had to be placed on a medium-speed ship. On the other hand, one of the of the new members who requested “average” was placed on a slow ship to balance the number between ships/fleets and allow for first choice for departments (which is allowed under PDept policy).

Comments: Two new members received their second choice of departments, and two new members received their third choice of departments. This occurred with both of our Academy placements and both of our Abramsverse placements. For the former, there have been some recent limitations due to vacant or absent DHs on the two Academy ships, which I understand is in the process of being rectified. For the latter, we are limited to one ship, so when that ship has issues with one or two DHs, or one department is full on the roster, we sometimes are unable to place a person in their first choice.

Final Comments

Thanks to the PDept staff this past term for their assistance. Special shout-out to Cale as APDir, who received a well-deserved promotion this term in part for her work this term and prior terms in the PDept.

I’m happy that we have managed to have a more active department this term, with department members receiving additional training. Also, with Joe’s substantial assistance, we have managed to move about 90% of our off-site tracking and records onto Exodus itself, so that those records are now more accessible and will automatically update. We also had assistance in updates to the ship placement tool and a new ship profile page that does not need to be maintained by the PDept (so that the COs and XOs can update vacancies directly without having to go through the PDept - leaving the staff to focus on other responsibilities).

This term also saw the official end of the STF Yearbook with a bylaw amendment (and we are just trying to finalize how to actually archive the photos from that Yearbook).

Thank everyone for their support throughout these changes.

Daniel Lerner, Personnel Director
