Starfleet Academy Report - April 2019

Overall this month was productive, we have a mentor’s policy now published on our mandates page (thanks to all who participated in the discussion and thanks to Owen who kindly updated the page for us).

We had a few graduations too, two from the Challenger and two from the Endy (and another one currently in process for the Endy!). Congrats Ben Simons, Tim Olivieri, Steve Alliss and Julian Pouliot!

USS Challenger

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Steve Johnson

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The simm has started! The cadets have done a great job of staying entertained with some small side simms in the meantime, but it is good to get the simm going. As the simm starts, we’ll keep some of the interesting side simms going, just to keep things interesting.

Spotlight: None

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: Between David’s RL getting the better of him and my internet crashing, the sim experienced a minor stall, but nothing which can’t be overcome. The crew has accepted their orders from Commander Jackson and are in route to the last known coordinates of the USS Potterfield, a cargo ship that sent out a distress beacon asking for aid.

Spotlight: Shout out to Roger Babin who has continued to impress me with his involvement and writing technique.

FComm’s Comments: A few AWOLs this month for the Challenger, but beyond keeping on top of those, I have no other major concerns for the command crew at this time.

USS Endeavour

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Overall we’re doing okay, our main stumbling block is adequate staff. Some of the DH vacancies were filled by graduating cadets which has helped, but we still need a COS and a CNS which has proven somewhat difficult to recruit for.

Spotlight: Congrats to Julian Pouliot and Steve Alliss on their graduation from the training program. They have both qualified for the DH appointment.

Executive Officer: Melissa Aragon

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: My first month so still getting used to things. We seem to be doing ok.

Spotlight: The CO is great for support and training for both myself and cadets. A pleasure.

Gamemaster: Gene Gibbs

Sim Overview: The Endeavor was sent along to the Craxus system to make a routine delivery of goods to the exploratory vessel SeaHawk, currently on Craxus II. The SeaHawk was a converted space vessel redesigned to function underwater. The system, while well within Federation space, was not populated and the world itself more of a curiosity than anything. 90% water covered the worlds’ properties boasted that of breaking down replicated matter within days to weeks. All materials, foods and repair components had to be manufactured. Together with that life forms and the world radiated a field that while not inhibiting transports, made their use potentially dangerous. Thus resupply was generally done by shuttles.

The world was utilized by pleasure seekers such as surfers who used periods of ‘icefall’ to take in the higher waves and tides. Science and curiosity seekers toured the system, as did prospectors seeking mineral and other treasures from the perpetually grinding planets which had collided, sending out a steady stream of chunks from their crust and mantle. It is in this situation that the Endeavor came with a a bay full of equipment and almost 30 replacement crew. Their task was to deliver the equipment - after helping repair the dock that the SeaHawk used. Some components had been slipped in which had been replicated and had broken down enough to nearly sink the dock.

It was in this state that the Endeavor came to the Craxus system. In the cargo bay there was some ‘classified’ crates that one of the crew had detected as possibly .. alive? It was hard to tell but it was enough to spur some extra attention. What they know is that they were to be used for a project Hollowhead, but at the moment nothing more is known. As they had prepared for a shuttle to go down to Craxus II they received a distress call from two prospector ships which had, for reasons unknown, collided and were in trouble. Close in to the two worlds which had as well collided, even getting to them would be a challenge.

Spotlight: None.

FComm’s Comments: The main stumbling block of the Endeavor is lack of a COS and CNS, otherwise I have no major concerns for the ship. If anyone is interested in such a position, they should get in contact with the CO (me) as soon as they can.
