Recent Updates to the Site

TECH’s bylaw requires that we make reports any time that public-facing changes to the site software are made, in order to document exactly what was changed. Here’s everything that has changed since the last report that was issued on July 5, 2019:

Version 1.7.0 - August 5, 2019

The We’re-Still-Here-A-Year-Later Release

  • Added support for mailing the STF Newsletter to people who opt-in
  • Upgraded to Django 2.2.4
  • Added favicons
  • Added a “Quit this Position” button to the character sheet
  • Added “Reject - Other” reason for PDept application processing form
  • Added “In Progress” status to new member applications
  • Replaced small Drupal-style links with larger, more colorful buttons
  • Took advice about red/green colorblindness

Aside from the above, work on the WeBBSpace Archive is almost complete. Unfortunately, although all of the content can be viewed, it is very difficult to make it display properly in lists. The problem is that the WeBBSpace data is organized in a very unintuitive way, that makes all of the natural ways of creating lists of posts needlessly difficult. We didn’t want to hold up the CMM-requested Newsletter functionality working on that problem, so we’re going to revisit it later.

The Presidency changed hands during this month, and the new President has instructed us to de-prioritize the Library and the WeBBSpace Archive in favor of the GMD Archive. We’ve been discussing the design of that functionality with the GMD. Implementation work will begin later this weekend.

Finally, Owen is in one of his productively-bored phases again, and is looking to improve MOTDs to make them more responsive (e.g. to look better on mobile devices). If you want him to look at your MOTD, please let him know.

Joe
