The Black Fleet Report - August 2019

USS Europa

Commanding Officer: Joe P

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: I think I’ve enjoyed the ship this month more than I have in quite a while. Things are generally still moving, even though we had a couple people take vacations. The sim is starting to develop nicely after being stuck for a while. We could be doing better, but I can’t really complain.

There are no staffing changes to note this month.

Spotlight: The side sim taking place between Amber DeSadier’s counselor and Lindsay Bayes’ teenage boy has the potential to reveal a lot of hidden depths both characters have.

On the sillier side, I am pleased that Mike Monte is reviving the Original Series trope of Medical Officers being on the Bridge to provide color commentary. And that Luke Hung gratuitously suffers from ra-… diation.

Vacancies: We are willing to take Junior Officers in any department.

Executive Officer: Janice B.

Crew Posting Level: 10
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The Main Sim has moved along and at a pretty study pace thanks to our GMT. The Europa has encountered a primitive inhabited strange planet. One thing sticks out in the low tech civilization: A humanoid. This individual is standing in a graveyard filled with many non-native species. From Klingon to Vulcan with no clear answers of how it happened.

Concerned, Dvorak orders Avik and a small team to head down there to investigate. Their job is to avoid the natives and find out answers. Could this be connected to the rumors from base 51? Only an investigation will reveal the truth.

Spotlight: The spotlight goes to a thread called ‘A Reunion of Friends’. It features our CO Dvorak and Officer Zorell during their break time together. Sad news for all the interesting ladies, but it seems our CO has been taken off the market. All thanks to a sudden blurt out about marriage from Zorell and Dvorak accepting. It was enough to send the guy on cloud nine because he can’t stop telling everyone. Including random strangers. It was enjoyable to see the less professional attitude in both.

Vacancies: All the JO spots for the Europa are open. If you’re interested please email or contact the CO and XO on the site. Our usernames in the Discord are JoeP and Fallenreaper respectively. Have your character idea ready to present, please.

Gamemaster: Christopher Bennett

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: The crew has reached the planet and has discovered a lone human on the surface. Radiation in the atmosphere is preventing them from getting a transporter lock so an away team has been dispatched to investigate. On the ship, one of the impulse engines is starting to over heat again. The engineering crew is starting to investigate the cause of the overheating.

All in all a good month for the crew. The sim is starting to advance at a more rapid pace now.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: See GMT comments.

USS Genesis

Commanding Officer: Luke Hung

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The mission seems to have slowed slightly with my LOA, but the side sims have picked up. Clearly the ship is in a great position both in terms of players and GM. Its a good ship, lollypop.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 9

Sim Overview: The Genesis is still gathering data regarding the Pallasians. There are two away teams on the planet who seem to have completed their work and are in the process of requesting permission to return to the Genesis. The shuttle commanded by the XO has collected the crashed probe and is on its way back to the Genesis. The Genesis, in the meantime, has contacted a group of people found underground on the moon of the colony planet. They have arranged a meeting …

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: The Genesis is moving along nicely. The crew is posting regularly. The CO had an LOA but has returned to good form. No issues noted.

USS Merrimack

Commanding Officer: David Fergusson

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: In the current Sim, we are searching for a relic of an ancient civilisation called the ‘Fastion Reality Stone’, an inverted “5” in shape, and made of undetermined, but rare and metallic materials, is rumoured to have the ability to allow its user to reshape reality itself. In the hands of the Klingons or Romulans it could sway the whole balance of power in the two Quadrants. The Orions probably already know about it, and they will sell that information, so, working together with the USS Avenger, we have to find it first for the security of the Federation. Our best guess and our first destination is an unnamed Minshara class planet in a system nearby called UEP-314. We have just arrived in the system with the Avenger, taking up opposite positions.
Meanwhile in Engineering, an engineer’s clothing and skin turned into apples and vines, then a catch of fresh tuna fell from above, which quickly changed into baked tuna in a romesco sauce, just at the point that a crewman had thought about it. Tinga is also picking up an unusual background hum from the comms.
While the ship is still healthy I have concerns about the slowdown in posting, especially since the loss of Marthese Bugeja from STF. This was a shock to me. Not only was she CMO but she had an array of non-rostered characters and was an absolute star at keeping threads alive. There have been a number of LOAs and, for the first time in months, AWOLs but all have explanations due to illness or real life crises that cannot be helped. The Merrimack has an older member composition who have more real life problems than college students will have, and this must be taken into consideration. I’m hoping that the pace will pick up again and we will find a new CMO quickly, but we are into the summer holiday period and I will be taking some time off myself.

Spotlight: I’d have to highlight Marthese Bugeja, a huge loss to STF as a whole. I wish her well and that her illnesses don’t get any worse. She has often found officers to fill the Merrimack’s vacant positions, so we will miss her in more ways than her role-playing.

Vacancies: ** WE NEED A Chief Medical Officer. *

This is our most pressing need right now.
As CMO on the Merrimack you will experience new illnesses, seek out new diseases and get sick where no one has been sick before.

Would anyone like to play a second minor character?
Or a custom character - let’s discuss it!
Engineering JOs, Security JO, Science JOs, Medical JOs

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Sim Overview: Merrimack plows along entering the unexplored system with the USS Avenger where they expect to find orions that may know more about the ancient device they seek to recover for themselves. Meanwhile on the ship the oddities in engineering have ended as suddenly as they began

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: The Ship is in desperate need of a CMO and Junior officers. There are a couple AWOL’s that are of concern. Please contact the CO if you are interested in the CMO or JO positions.

Oed V

Commanding Officer: Tony Findora

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: We are getting there. It’s been a fairly consistent month with posting. Trinity and I are progressing the sim into more territory and soon we will have some mystery on our hands.

August should be the beginning of a real kickstart in posting.

Spotlight: I’d like to spotlight Sam Pennington and Trinity Fister. Their roleplay and writing is excellent! Diverse personality between the two and they will likely be integral in upcoming threads. Great work to you both! :)

Vacancies: Our MOTD is up to date on vacancies along with our ship profile page. :)

Executive Officer: Sidney Parker

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Maybe I am being overly optimistic but since Tony took over several years ago Oed has really stabilized. He is a great recruiter so overall we have had dips but its been more steady now than ever. This last month was good and people are starting to engage in others side sims. Nice to see.

Spotlight: Trinity with her behind the scenes work and Tony for his infectious optimism. Luke Paris with the character Shinzak is active and a great character is being developed. Liam Shoepp has an interesting new character as the CIO and I want to see where that goes.

Vacancies:

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: The OED V had a decent month with 121 postings. However, some LOA’s are starting to effect the posting numbers. It’s the end of the summer so some LOA’s are to be expected. I have no concerns with the OED V at this time. Keep up the good work.

USS Olympic

Commanding Officer: Christopher Bennett

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: The Olympic is investigating a Romulan freighter full of refugees escaping from the Tal’Shair. The crew is posting at an alright level, 83 posts for the month. Some of that is my fault, time is getting away from me very easily. Members of the crew are treating the refugees in medical and seeing to their needs in the cargo bay. The Captain is in discussions with the freighter captain as to what they are running from. Sam is doing an outstanding job as GMT so far, but my posting has been down as a result of my rotating schedule.

We could use some JO’s in all departments.

Spotlight:

Vacancies: JO in all departments.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Sam Pennington

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: Romulan refugees are in the cargo bay recovering from their journey to Federation space. The Captain of the Romulan ship is meeting with Captain Jasar as the XO and CE explore what remains of the ship that carried the Romulans. The lurking threat of Tal’Shiar agent Commander Suket is ever present and someone in the cargo bay replicated samples of raw materials.

Spotlight: Gene Gibbs as Sural/Reno and Miriam W as Sathut for really keeping things going and helping develop the story.

FComm’s Comments: See CO report.

USS Wolverine

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Ray Branch

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The Senior Staff is in the Ready Room deciding the Wolverine’s next move. Unfortunately, the Captain became unconscious and was rushed to Sickbay (Terry is on LOA), and our COS is now back in her own body.

Out of Character: I’ve noticed a few AWOLs that are going to be taken care of shortly. Otherwise, posting has picked up some within the past few weeks.

Spotlight:

Vacancies: JOs in all Departments.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: It was a rough month for the Wolverine. Terry was on LOA for most of the month due to illness. However, Ray and Jason have kept things going well. I am not concerned with the Wolverine at this point. She has a good, experienced Role players at her helm.
