Hello all,

My introduction to this month’s fleet report is a bit longer. There has been a lot of talk about what a Fcomm’s job is and how healthy ships are across the club. I have used a formula to compare the ships in my fleet for all the terms I have been Fcomm. The reason for this is how can you compare a crew of twenty to a crew of ten when it comes time to evaluate how well a ship is doing. I have approached this as I do my profession with the idea of a baseline and what is expected in a perfect scenario.

To do this, I decided to use a baseline of comparing each ship to an idea 16 member crew. This counts having a full command staff, full DH plus a CNS and two JO’s for each department. From there I found out how much the minimum posts a ship of that size at each speed should have posted over a month. After we find out how much each ship speed with a crew of 16 should have posted we then compared that to what the ship in its current state produced.

Doing this lets us do a few things. It allows us to compare ships that have smaller, yet still viable crews vs big bulging crews. It also allows us to know much a ship of a slow speed can compare to a ship of a fast speed. There is some areas this kind of formula doesn’t take into account, LOA/AWOL characters, OOC and bump posts and other elements that might throw off numbers. For scenarios that seem to be off the mark, I then look and see just why they were off and look more behind the scenes to try and explain what went wrong this month for the ship to not hit the minimum baseline.

The Pioneer Fleet Report - October 2019

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Ian Kerby

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: Beyond the bounds of seeming possibility, the madman of Mirror Rura Penthe turns out to be the mirror version of Pierce Hamilton the Second who in the Athena’s last adventure nearly destroyed the timeline with the help of Counter Strike. Before he was dispatched, our universes Pierce Hamilton showed Mirror Pierce technology that would use the Mirror Orb to make super dense super-soldiers by combining Mirror versions of people with our universes counterparts.

Mirror Pierce knows the Athena is coming to Rura Penthe, trying to get Isabel and Orvos back and he plans to trap them all and use them as “meat” for his experiments.

Meanwhile on Mirror Risa can Kaylee and the team stop the Taurus Pact from raising hell and destroying the galaxies one shot at peace and resistance against the faltering Cardassian/Klingon Alliance?

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: So based on the criteria I explained above, the USS Athena with a crew of 19 people had 210 posts for the month of October. A ship with a posting rate of 3/5/7 and a crew of 16 (Command Staff (CO, XO, GM), DH (CNS, COS, CSO, CMO CE), and JO (this would be a minimum of 8 with 2 per department) should produce 108 posts per month. The Athena has three people more than the baseline to which we are comparing our data. This means that in October the crew of the Athena achieved her goal with a 163.74% posting average. This means that when you take her total number of posts (210) and compare it to what a crew of 16’s posting rate is she is 63.74% over baseline. Congrats Athena, you did amazing. Keep up the good work.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The main sim is moving along nicely. We are now trying to get off the space station and the bridge crew is attempting not to play chicken with some fighters that keep buzzing the bridge. Various side sims dealing with personal character growth abound. Some are romances. Some are humorous. Some deeply emotional. A new science JO was added and he is creating amazing things to read. We have been waiting for him for about a month and the crew is ecstatic about his current posts. They are fun, interesting, and exciting to read.

Spotlight: My spotlight goes to Steven Sigle. He has created an amazing story for a science JO, Christopher Robins, which is different from the engineering/ security roles he normally plays. Great job Steven!

Vacancies:

CMO needed.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: So based on the criteria I explained above, the USS Atlantis with a crew of 14 people had 268 posts for the month of October. A ship with a posting rate of 3/5/7 and a crew of 16 (Command Staff (CO, XO, GM), DH (CNS, COS, CSO, CMO CE), and JO (this would be a minimum of 8 with 2 per department) should produce 108 posts per month. The USS Atlantis has two people less than the baseline to which we are comparing our data of 16. This means that in October the crew of the Atlantis achieved her goal with a 283.60% posting average. This means that when you take her total number of posts (268) and compare it to what a crew of 16’s posting rate is she is 83.60% over baseline. Congrats Atlantis, you did amazing. Keep up the good work.

USS Dresden

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: So based on the criteria I explained above, the USS Dresden with a crew of 11 people had 72 posts for the month of October. A ship with a posting rate of 3/5/7 and a crew of 16 (Command Staff (CO, XO, GM), DH (CNS, COS, CSO, CMO CE), and JO (this would be a minimum of 8 with 2 per department) should produce 108 posts per month. The USS Dresden has five people less than the baseline to which we are comparing our data of 16. This means that in October the crew of the Dresden did not achieve her goal. She had a 96.97% posting average. This means that when you take her total number of posts (72) and compare it to what a crew of 16’s posting rate is she is 3.03% under the baseline. When I looked specifically at why she was under it was for these reasons:
1. She did not have a Gm.
2. She had a number of LOA’s.

Many ships have had a string of LOA’s so this is reflective of STF as a whole. She also has received a new GM which will help to increase her posts per month as people are now able to post to the main sim.

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Cale Reilly

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 4
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: The ship has stalled a bit due to LOAs and various real-life issues effecting everyone. Hopefully we are getting back on track. The sim now has us slap bang in the midst of a soap opera and I’m excited for the drama that’s sure to unfold.

Spotlight: Everyone who has been side swimming and working away. Especially Tom who just jumped right into things and got going.

Vacancies: None - Roster closed

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: So based on the criteria I explained above, the USS Ogawa with a crew of 27 people had 178 posts for the month of October. Seeing as the Ogawa is a special ship, and has a 5/5/5 posting schedule, this means that every member of the crew needs to be hitting 8 posts per month in order to stay healthy. This means to hit their target for a crew of that size they need to post 216 times total in order to reflect everyone equally as expected for their character and be compared equally against the rest of the ships in the fleet. This means that in October the crew of the Ogawa did not achieve her goal. She had an 82.41% posting average. I know the ship, like many other ships in the site, has had a string of LOA’s. The ship is full of amazing writers so keep up the good work.

Outpost 42

Commanding Officer: Adam W.

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 2
Overall Ship Health: 4

Ship Status: 78 posts this much, which is a number I don’t find alarming. But something just feels off to me. The command staff was absent and there’s other AWOLing going on as well. Chief of Security is now vacant as I’m removing Trinity for inactivity.

While I feel there’s work to be done to right the ship a bit, there’s still plenty of quality writing going on and a good portion of the crew is pressing on.

Spotlight: Dave Shotton for his posting with his second character Khain. It’s great to see him bring him back as he does a lovely job painting a picture of the Klingon.

Vacancies: CoS

Executive Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The ship is doing well with a lot of interesting character development occurring everywhere. Duncan and Lily are participating in a camping trip where they are debating the chances of being eaten by things that go bump in the night or things that swoop down from the sky and kill you. Jessica is on a clandestine mission where Aedan’s credit book might take a hit but rumor has it that the man prints money in the basement so that should not be a problem. Nikko and Arkane are participating in a duo team-building exercise that is exploring various aspects of their personality. Several other character development pieces are also being written or finished up. In short, this ship had a lot to read no matter what your style is.

Spotlight: Everyone is doing amazing. I did not have a single storyline that I felt was the most captivating. So this is one time where everyone gets a A+ for their work.

Vacancies:

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: So based on the criteria I explained above, Outpost 42 with a crew of 9 people had 78 posts for the month of October. A ship with a posting rate of 5/7/10 and a crew of 16 (Command Staff (CO, XO, GM), DH (CNS, COS, CSO, CMO CE), and JO (this would be a minimum of 8 with 2 per department) should produce 72 posts per month. The Outpost has seven people less than the baseline to which we are comparing our data of 16. This means that in October the crew of the Outpost achieved her goal with a 192.59% posting average. This means that when you take her total number of posts (78) and compare it to what a crew of 16’s posting rate is she is 92.59% over baseline. So even though the crew was below the idealized number of crew, they posted more than expected in the time frame. Congrats Outpost. Keep up the good work.

Hi Kate,
Thank you for the report. Would you be able to give us some more details on how each ship in your fleet is doing? While post counts is a good start, there is a lot more to a ship then just having posts. What if 2 people are doing a majority of the posting? So what does crew interaction look like? Is there a reason why those reports are missing?

I’m just trying to get more details on how each ship is doing, then we could get out of a report that TECH could automate for us.

Thanks!
Steve
