The Infinite Fleet Report - February 2020

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Sarah Hemenway

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: After some back and forth, I think everyone knows where they are in the main sim now and hopefully we can begin making solid progress toward figuring out what happened to the Chimera and how to fix it. There were several key details missed as the CO spot and several DH spots transitioned to new people over the last few months, so I’m expecting lots of forward progress now that we all know what those were! The majority of the crew has posted consistently this month and we’ve had some fantastic side-sims to keep us busy as well. I hope that this upward trajectory continues into next month!

Spotlight: I should probably stop putting Gene in the spotlight every month but I’m going to do it again – Gene has worked hard IC and OOC to help get the crew headed in the right direction to tackle the sim. I’m going to add Cale here too, as her side-sims have kept me thoroughly entertained all month.

Vacancies: The Chimera has openings for JOs in all departments. Swing positions will be considered upon request.

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: Things are picking up for the crew. With the reaction of the ‘full stop’ behind us to now coming together to try to solve the mysteries before us and doing so not as a solitary person or in couplets we are now forming better play groups which is much better for interactivity amongst the crew. Overall i still don’t know where this will land and there are yet a number of mysteries to solve but now we are more focused as a crew to do so. The intermix between the ‘starfleet’ and ‘marines’ is nice to see as so often they go their separate ways.

Vacancies:

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: I feel that posting is a little disjointed as the crew continues to fumble around for a rationale for the ship’s sudden stop and general refusal to lower internal forcefields. Several teams have made it to the computer core from two different directions. The Captain is trying to figure out how to use one of recon shuttles as a temporary CIC.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: Chimera has had a great month, with 184 posts putting them well above the posting limits for a ship its speed and size. With the sim gaining some traction, Luke is throwing out all the stops, pun intended, to the crew. Looking forward to seeing what they have this month as new crew and new adventures await the crew of the Chimera.

USS Constellation

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Katy Darrah

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The Connie flew into an anomaly and has been thrown into an Alice in Wonderland situation. Hilariousness will ensue.

Spotlight: Tyra Schroll. Not only did the overworked Mouse step up as GM, but she accepted the OOC (and soon to be IC) promotion to CE. Plus, she’s doing a sim true to the Connie’s Comedy genre

Vacancies: JOs all departments, CoS

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: Posting levels have been solid for the crew of the Connie, but absences from the CO and others have limited some of her output I fear. Despite this, she still pulled out a respectable 49 posts, which while small, is well within limits for a ship this speed and size. Luckily the GM blues the ship has been fixed as Tyra has stepped in to aid the crew and give her something really to worry about.

Starbase Magellan

Commanding Officer: Jim Watkin

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: Things have been moving slowly - RL pressures have been the main influencing factor on this.

Spotlight:

Vacancies: Chief Medical Officer
Chief Science Officer
Counsellor
JOs in every department
Shopkeepers, Civilians and Swing Positions

Executive Officer: Steve Johnson

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: Overall Magellan is very meh at this point. There is a new simm going, but it’s moving slowly. We are short on crew, so that is keeping the simm pretty slow. Right now we are just trying to figure out what in the world the GM has planned for us all.

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: This last month the Magellan has been a drag for the Magellan. Not a lot of posting due to AWOLs and LOAs.

The Magellan crew has managed to come to the conclusion that they are bumping up against weaknesses in the space time continuum causing a bleeding effect between this reality and others, allowing them to see future, pasts, and horizontal events.

The CE is trying to pierce the veil and get a message to the other side while the XO is trying to figure out what is causing this phenomena so they can mitigate it.

Spotlight: None

FComm’s Comments: The crew of the Magellan produced 47 posts this month which was below what you would expect from a ship of this speed and crew size. This was most likely due to a plethora of LOA’s and AWOL’s by the crew; however, I am sure as life settles down for the writers of the Magellan they will be back to producing the stories we all love to read. The main sim is still a great read with possible ghost sightings everywhere. So who are you going to call? The Blue Note thread needs to call in the Ghostbusters because “Egon we have a problem outside of Engineering.” Is the shadowy figure moving along the floor a ghost or something else? In sickbay, there was a slimeless incident where a “ghostly visitor walked right through Ben and TeWhiti” or was there. Seems engineering is making a correlation between temporal disturbances and the appearance of the shadowy images appearing around the station. Now that science is involved we can toss out the paranormal activity and let the crew of the Magellan solve this mystery of time and space.

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Russell Watt

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 3
Overall Ship Health: 3

Ship Status: I joined the Viking towards the end of February as XO, replacing the long term XO, Jim Watkins who was stepping down so he could focus on the ship he is CO on. Jim’s presence as XO will be missed, however he promises to return at a future time as a JO. We’re hoping it won’t be too long between drinks for Jim..

I joined the ship at a low point in its long history. The ship was without a GM and the CO was on LOA. Most of the crew had been posting, however, and have been quick to jump in with threads I began for them. Amanda as CO has returned, and we are getting a GMT to put us through our paces in a future mission.

At the time of writing this report, we have a couple of DHs and a JO outside of posting limits, so I’ll be contacting them about it following the submission of this report, to check on their plans for the future and whether or not those plans include remaining on the Viking.

Next month I will have a better feel for the ship and be able to review the posts made for the month and report on the crewmember who has won the Viking’s ‘Monthly Challenge’. Intrigued? Well, join us and you might win it for March 2020!

As ‘Sir Fred’ sang in Spamalot “I am not dead yet”. (did anyone really doubt I could not find a Monty Python quote for use in this thread.

Spotlight: Our Fleet Command Dynamic Duo - the Caped Tadpole and the Collie Wonder - have been a great support to us behind the scenes as we get to work on resurrecting the Viking. So I wanted to thank them for that publicly. I know that those roles are very important and sometimes those who hold them aren’t thanked enough, so I wanted to put my thanks to them both on the public record.

Vacancies: From the look of the roster, we have the following vacancies:
- Counselor, 1 Medical JO, 1 Security JO, and 2 Science JOs.

That will bring us to a crew of 17.

If you are interested in joining, please contact Amanda as CO and/or myself as XO. We would like a character profile and if you want to play a creature that may go bump in the night, please come up with a Star Trek reason for it. We don’t want a run of the mill skeleton, we would accept a half klingon who is all bones due to some kind of transporter malfunction or science experiment gone awry, however.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: The Viking this month produced 67 posts which is within the posting limits of the ship. The Captain was excused this month from producing a report due to an LOA. The Viking has just begun a new sim by the amazing Katy Darrah so she was excused from the report. The new sim has taken off with a bang as a crashed ship is trying to contact the USS Viking. Where is the crashed ship located? Why did it crash? Who is on the ship? All these questions and more are sure to be answered as the story unfolds for the crew and those that love to read the adventures of the USS Viking. No, Dudes! Don’t Drink the Water! is a wonderful thread introducing the new XO. While it says don’t drink the water you definitely DO want to read this thread. It is filled with the creative energy we all have come to know and love from our fabulous Tribble. Another side sim touches the delicate topic of first contact and sentience. Will the Admiral’s fate end in diplomacy or at the end of a phaser. Stay tuned to find out.
