As has been brought up, and as a result of a myriad of discussions in the past, I want to see how much interest there is in amending the purpose of the XFleet to provide a documented and appropriate avenue for members to create a ship in XFleet and, providing it meets to be determined specified and rigorous standards, graduate that ship to the Main Fleet.

Do we want the ability to do this in the club?

Snip

  1. It is unnecessary to create a formal process to do this, because it is already an established power of the President and Fleet Commanders to create ships. If they want to do it, they can just do it. We don’t need to give them more power to do it. If someone has a wildly successful X-Ship that they think ought to be made more permanent and standardized, either as an Alt-RPG or as a Standard Ship, or as a rule change, or whatever, all they have to do is talk to the President to get that ball rolling.

But as the original intent of this discussion was to simply ask the question “Do we want the ability in the club for members to create a ship in XFleet and, if deemed successful, move that ship to the Main fleet?”, I dont see where the back and forth is really answering that question.

Snip

Just highlighting where in the back and forth the question is really being answered. We don’t need to create an ability to do something we already can do. I kind of think the best X-Fleet ships would make little sense in the main fleet anyways.

Adam W.

Since I’m new to the X-Fleet concept, could you elaborate on what you mean by “I kind of think the best X-Fleet ships would make little sense in the main fleet anyways”?

Thank you!

Sarah, VP

From what I can understand (I wasn’t here for it) there was only one ship which really made it close to main-fleet ability on it (see Joe’s post, he mentions it) thing is, what harm would there be in outlines exact guidelines for the prez to refer to when an x-ship applies to them for transfer to main fleet? It wouldn’t require re-writing X-fleet’s bylaw/charter/etc, all it would do is outline “these are the things the prez should look at these things when evaluating whether an x-ship should be moved to the main fleet” I.e.
1. “X-ship must have approved specification in the main fleet” just like any ship in STF, iirc
2. “X-ship must have CO/XO/GM as per main fleet” meaning the storyteller becoming GM must have completed the GMT
3. “X-ship must have at least core 4 department head positions filled”
4. “X-ship must select an AWOL category that fits the activity on the ship” i.e. if the ship was going 10ish days between JO posts, then a slow speed would more fit the activity on the ship.
5. “X-ship must be able to maintain desired AWOL category.”

Of course, those are only examples, but what harm would laying out guidelines such as those really do?

Katy

Those guidelines are all requirements for Standard Ships and Alt RPG environments. They are all documented in FCOMM clearly. There is no need to write them down in a second place.

There is harm in writing them down in BOXES, which is that it emphasizes the incorrect impression that the point of X-Fleet is to create ships to be moved to the main fleet. That is not the point of X-Fleet. Changing X-Fleet to be that gets in the way of what X-Fleet is supposed to be, and needlessly harms Alt-RPG creation in the process by creating the expectation that X-Fleet should be the starting point for everything.
