As has been brought up, and as a result of a myriad of discussions in the past, I want to see how much interest there is in amending the purpose of the XFleet to provide a documented and appropriate avenue for members to create a ship in XFleet and, providing it meets to be determined specified and rigorous standards, graduate that ship to the Main Fleet.

Do we want the ability to do this in the club?

  1. It is unnecessary to create a formal process to do this, because it is already an established power of the President and Fleet Commanders to create ships. If they want to do it, they can just do it. We don’t need to give them more power to do it. If someone has a wildly successful X-Ship that they think ought to be made more permanent and standardized, either as an Alt-RPG or as a Standard Ship, or as a rule change, or whatever, all they have to do is talk to the President to get that ball rolling.

But as the original intent of this discussion was to simply ask the question “Do we want the ability in the club for members to create a ship in XFleet and, if deemed successful, move that ship to the Main fleet?”, I dont see where the back and forth is really answering that question.

Snip

Just highlighting where in the back and forth the question is really being answered. We don’t need to create an ability to do something we already can do. I kind of think the best X-Fleet ships would make little sense in the main fleet anyways.

Since I’m new to the X-Fleet concept, could you elaborate on what you mean by “I kind of think the best X-Fleet ships would make little sense in the main fleet anyways”?

Thank you!

Sarah, VP

I’ve been on two X-Fleet ships. On the first it was like a normal ship, only the roleplaying mainly happened live in a chat room. After the live session we posted the log on the boards. The second didn’t have anyone playing Starfleet personnel aside from the GM at some points. We all were roleplaying ourselves and that we all had been transported somehow to a Star Trek future onto a ship.

In both cases the ships wouldn’t have made that much sense as a mainfleet ship. They were both trying something different than our normal way of doing things. The ideas being outside the box made them a lot of fun to try. X-Fleet allows for the freedom to do things very differently than we normally do. I think it’s at its best when that gets explored.
