(snip)

So what happens if CO changes and a character approved as ok by former CO is suddenly deemed not ok by new CO?

Russell

I would assume it should be what is supposed to be happening currently. That COs and players discuss the character and come to an agreement and is the New CO says no then it follows the chain of command.

That’s why I asked that question in my initial post because I don’t think we are following this procedure at all (happy to be corrected if people are doing this) so in many regards if we aren’t following it anyway it seems like either we have to enforce the rules we have which are personally to me outdated in terms of characters or change it to allow for the current norm of characters etc to allow people to play them as they have been without the risk.

Cale

I’d say there needs to be some sort of provision for that. If I’m playing, say, a liberated Borg (approved by CO 1), and then something happens, either CO resigns, gets removed, etc. Now CO 2’s in power, and now they don’t approve of my character. I’ve been playing this character on the ship for a time already at this point, and if the FCOMM says no, all of the sudden I lose my position on the ship with said character? That sounds…incredibly unfair.

While I understand about CO changes and new COs not approving of specific characters, I don’t like the current system in that regards. I don’t know how many people do this, but I tend to get very attached to my characters, and I evolve them on a specific ship/to a particular crew, so suddenly being told this would hurt a lot.

Katy

I don’t think that’s unfair at all. A new person in authority shouldn’t be bound to a previous person in authority’s lax rule interpretation.

Folks, I and every other mobile user would appreciate it if you could please trim your posts. There’s a handy link to the proposal on the Command MOTD should anyone want to reference it.

Calé has the right idea. This also covers if a CO decides a previously approved character is not being played believably. Per the disputes portion, the FComm is expected to mediate any disagreement and a player would then have the opportunity to say what you have listed here as a reason not to disallow the character.

This discussion will be closing in a few hours, please get any final feedback in. At this time, there have been no revision suggestions that would necessitate a revision/further discussion.
