The Meridian Fleet Report - October 2020

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: James Harrison

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: As the new XO beams aboard for her new assignment, she finds the ship in low power mode, none of the crew seem aware of their surroundings or even notice that she has beamed in. She manages to make contact with Engineering and then heads to the ready room to determine what is going on with the Captain.

In my new role as XO, I have been working with keeping the roster in the green. Working with our GM to keep the sim going and getting some side sims started for crew members that feel lost. It’s been slow going but I know we have a talented bunch of writers and I am looking forward to seeing what we can do together

Spotlight:

Vacancies: JO’s in medical and science

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: The GM has spoken with me and is excused from reporting for this month.

The XO report I would have liked to have seen more content around how everyone is participating in the sim, the shining star and a little review of the of the performance of the DHs.

The CO is not excused this month.

From the FComm perspective the Viking is holding on but there are a lot of areas of improvement. Several key officers are spotty at best with their posting and it seems to have stagnated the sim. The side sims have been keeping the ship healthy enough though I would have liked to have seen more main sim velocity. I have talked with the command staff (mostly the XO) about how we can improve the ship.

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: Sidney Parker

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The ship is doing well overall. We were side simming and it slowed down significantly but we just started a new sim at the end o f the month so its hard to gauge yet. Favorite post was Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I did not participate but its great writing from Terry Sullivan.

Well improving is hard to say. Exiting side simming and entering a new sim I would like to see the new players to get really excited and involved.

Spotlight: Terry Sullivan for the Tinker side sim.

Vacancies: We are ok right now but any new player is always great to have.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Sim Overview: A new sim has just started and the momentum is slow at the moment.

In response to a distress call near the Algolian homeworld, the USS Santiago (Victoria Class) from Starbase 128 was dispatched. The Santiago sent a message to ask for reinforcements. The USS Radical ( Maverick Class) from Starbase 11 and the Brian Olinski was dispatched. Initial reports shows that the Breen are involved. En route, the sensors discover Tholian signatures. It is an unidentified class ship that is about the size of the Brian Olinski.

Spotlight: The crew are generally involved with the sim. I cannot say who is the greatest contributor to the sim just yet.

FComm’s Comments: I am pleased with the Olinski’s report for this month. The XO is excused due to an LOA that is just shy of an eLOA so no need to find a replacement there.

There are a fair number of AWOLs that should be cleaned up but they are from established players so I understand the reluctance to purge them just yet. Several LOAs. The sim seems to have stalled a little bit due to the lack of crew but I would still classify the ship as healthy.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Timothy Frogue

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: We seem to be working okay. Some do better than others and the story seems to be moving along well.

The CO and I are really involved in the sim. In fact, the sim has gone in a direction that I did not expect, and the GM made it head that way based on a decision I made. To me that is the best way a GM can go…to allow the sim to move based on the direction the crew takes the ship. If that alters the storyline so what…this is all for fun and GMs should revolve around the crew (IMO).

Spotlight: Despite the fact that the GM has been on a LOA he had done very well. RL has taken him away because his house got water damage. That said, he came to this ship and took the sim over (where we had it) and made it MUCH MUCH better. Even with him gone, the sim is going in the general direction that he saw (although he has allowed the crew to shape the sim too). To me, the GM is the star of the crew on our ship.

Vacancies: We can use JO’s in almost every department. We have a nice ship based on the JJ movies (and the new books that were released). But there are still many that do not like that timeline and hence it makes it harder to get people to join us. Any assistance command can be would be nice.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: The GM was excused from the report this month. The CO was not.

I am pleased with the Chernov. She is the Ship of the Month as far as health is going. All the crew seem to be within AWOL limits. I would have liked to have seen more specific reviews of the DHs in the XOs report but from my assessment they are doing well.

No concerns for this month beyond Sam’s availability.

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: Steven Sigle

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The Odin is functioning within limits for a ship of its speed and crew size with 94 posts in the month of Ocotber. The crew is performing well despite having several members dealing with real life issues that have made thier posting a bit slower; however, when you look at the length, detail, and content of the posts given their responses are not single sentence replies. The posts are multiple sentences with descriptions and details that add far more the to response than simple dialgoue. My favorite posts of the month involve the main sim. Kenson has done a magnificent job creating a story that is not just something one can participate in but also enjoy as a reader. The dialogue between the CE, COS, and the GM’s character have been the highlight for me to read. The dinner thread with the CE and CMO has given insight to their characters that is often not able to be expressed in a main sim setting. The CTO is checking in with both the CTO and CO. The XO and physicist seem to have finally found thier quarters and already are planning to do renovations for a possible third party.

Well done all! Stay safe.

I would like to improve posting levels however with the approach of the holidays we all want that as a goal.

Vacancies:

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Sim Overview: After rescuing a freighter, the Odin pursued what seemed like an unregistered Romulan ship. The Odin reaches a strange cluster of ships in a system that is outside Federation space, not claimed by any major power. On contacting the ‘colony’ the Odin discovers that they an independent group of people from various systems. The CO negotiates entry into the system to look for the perpetrators.

Two away teams have been sent down to the colony, which is actually on a small planetoid. A Security officer (Ensign Wolf) is with a colony security officer at a security post in the market place. The market place have a number of stalls that sell refurbished Starfleet equipment. The rest of the two teams came together to corner the suspicious character (Wiz) who was one of the suppliers of the equipment. They are trying to find out where he got the equipment from.

In the mean time, in orbit, the unregistered Romulan ship comes out of hiding to try to escape. The Odin is attempting to tractor it.

Spotlight: Chief Engineer and Chief of Security are posting regularly to keep the away team thread going. On the bridge, the XO and CO are also posting regularly. Side sims are also keeping several of the other crew members busy.

FComm’s Comments: I am pleased with Steve and Kenson’s reports this month. The XO was not excused from this month.

I am pleased with the Odin. She is a consistent ship and Steve keeps her in tip top shape. I have no major concerns this month beyond not getting a report from Dave.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: James Harrison

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: The Saracen has received an automated distress call, being channeled through some kind of probe. As they make their way to investigate an unknown ship appears out of nowhere and seems to destroy the probe. They are still on course for the origin of the distress signal, a planet that claims to be under attack and in need of assistance.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: The CO and XO were not excused for the month.

I would have liked to have seen a little more meat from James in the GM report but otherwise I am pleased with the reports this month. The crew generally stays within AWOL limits and are making quality posts. I have no major concerns beyond the lack of reports.

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: Dave Eads

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: We had a rough few weeks due to a number of LOA’s and people (myself included) needing to deal with RL things. However, The first sim is done! Rob did a great job dealing with the issues we were having and managing to move the sim forward at the same time. With the sim complete, we are taking a little time to make some adjustments to the crew and staff positions before we jump into the next Sim. I look forward to getting things dialed in properly again and starting a new Sim on the right foot. I expect next month to be much better than the last two have been.

Spotlight: Rob, of course, has been amazing as GM. Sharon, Cale, and Melissa have been my star posters for the last few weeks. (And really all along) Glad to have them!

Vacancies: Sentinel has an opening for a Security DH, as well as JO’s of all departments. If you’ve never written TOS, don’t worry! The adjustment isn’t that much trouble!

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 5

Sim Overview: Overall an ok month for the Sentinel crew/ship. Things were slow but given thats also the ship’s speed its not unexpected. Though the up and down awols at times did hinder the progress of the sim from start to finish. That said the main sim and first sim is complete! The Sentinel crew successfully rescued the surviving children of Deba III and put an isolation buoy around the planet to warn off others. For now they’re going to be doing some R&R while I plot out the next sim and the CO and company get recruiting.

====

As per the request of the President and very handsome Vice President....

1) Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Given the sim just wrapped up I would inform the new player of such and encourage them to roleplay joining the ship at Deep Space K-5 where the ship is now docked and to get their boarding evals out of the way.

2) Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Biggest contribution this past month was in actuality the entire crew for sticking through this rough up and down roller coaster. Getting the ship off the ground running was/is difficult when real life hits a lot of people at once.

Spotlight: I want to spotlight the entire crew, just all around everyone gave it their all to see this successful first sim and I look forward to the next one to run for them!

FComm’s Comments: Joe was excused this month.

This month has seen some progress in the Sentinel. She has come a long way since last month and is working on continuing to improve this month. I have been told Joe will be back to posting regularly soon. DHs are posting well as is participation in the main sim. Stable environment with room to grow.

Overall Comments:
The fleet did well this month, though I would have liked to have seen greater participation in the reports as they were all given at least three reminders. That being said I am overall impressed with everyone despite the turmoil at least here in the states. I know we are going into the holiday season so that will be something to watch out for especially on the more struggling ships.
