The Black Fleet Report - October 2020

USS Constellation

Commanding Officer: Vacant

Executive Officer: Melissa Aragon

Crew Posting Level: 5

Senior Staff Posting Level: 5

Overall Ship Health: 3

Ship Status: The following questions are for your report this month: CO and XO questions.

Answering CO and XO questions as recommended by FComm as aCO

CO1) How is your ship looking overall?

Not well. We are about 30% healthy right now. No JOs to keep things going and DHs are half active, half AWOL.

CO2)What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

Anyone answering a post is a milestone this month. Next month will be better.

CO3)Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.

EVERYTHING… and it will be improved “THIS MONTH” (Nov)

Recruiting, GM, posting… all of it.

**

XO1) How are the DHs and the JOs doing?

We have no JOs and the DHs are not fairing well. Many are AWOL. We have 4 DHs and 2 are AWOL. So we are floundering. In light of recent events I am moving forward with the plan to recruit and try and rebuild and keep everyone engaged in the meantime.

XO2) Is everyone active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims.

Right now it’s 50/50… I am keeping side sims going and recruiting to try and build the ship back up again.

XO3) Who is the shining star this month?

Sadly, we don’t have one. I’m going to work on recruiting, GM hunting and building the ship back to health. Next month’s report will be FAR better.

Spotlight: Anyone who posted this month is a spotlight as far as I’m concerned. We will have a FAR better report in Nov.

Vacancies: CO (not an edict at time of this report, merely a heads up from FComm, so I haven’t mentioned it to anyone)

Chief of Operations

Counselor

Medical JO

Science JO

Engineer JO

Security JO

Gamemaster: To be honest, if I had been approached even as recently as a month ago, to be a GM in STF again, I would have said no and ran away. I wouldn’t be doing this. I didn’t think I was going to have time to keep up with what I was already doing in the club, but then something happened. The Collie and I were talking, she expressed the thought it would be wonderful to interview me, and I expressed the thought it would be wonderful to be interviewed by her. The thoughtful questions she posed, got me to thinking about my time in STF and outside of STF, I decided that I do want to try my hand, and send the Connie spiralling into madness with me behind the scenes pulling the strings as GM and in the bowels of the ship as the Chief Engineering Blob Siblings Dum and Dee Tweedle.

To the brand new Connie crew member …

So, to the new Captain and Crew of the Connie, you find yourselves at Black Rock in Fleet 6. The Connie has come in for a spring clean and to get the fuzzy dice on the bridge refluffed. There are a pair of interesting Starfleet officers there, and according to your Chief Engineering Blobs, the Tweedle siblings, they are two of the members of the Ministry of Silly Warps. A part of the Engineering Department of Starfleet that is well hidden and for them to be here … means the Connie are going to be in for something completely different for the upcoming mission … what is in store for the Connie? Why not join and find out for yourselves and experience the madness that is Eric the Half Trib first hand. Currently planning the mission, and don’t be surprised if there are constitutional peasants, knights that say ni, lumberjacks, spam loving Vikings or dead parrots along for the flight. Just don’t forget, Eric is not the messiah, just a very naughty GM.

Crew Contributions …

Meli the Mobstress is our XO/aCO and is helping to keep us occupied as we wait for a new CO to be appointed and for some JOs/Swings to join us.

Melissa has managed to get us a new CMO played by Lenora, and Lenora, along with Ben S (CSO) and Rusty (COS) are helping us to keep some things to happen on board as we are between missions. There are also a couple of Blobs on Board who are co Chief Engineers, one is made of peanut butter and the other of Jam. Dee and Dum Tweedle are blobs of no fixed gender assignment, and are siblings, not brothers, so please don’t call the brothers.

FComm’s Comments: The Connie needs a lot of work, but Melissa has stepped up to the plate as aCO to guide things along. Our most pressing vacancies are CO and GM. Recruiting for a ship without those two key positions in place will be hard, but with a little persistence I’m sure we’ll win the day.

AFComm’s Comments: I really want the Connie back to being the leader in STF Alt- Ship in the Club. She really needs a CO that can handle the nut house in the Connie.

USS Europa

Commanding Officer: Excused

Executive Officer: Excused

Gamemaster: Matt Evans

Crew Posting Level: 10

Senior Staff Posting Level: 10

Overall Ship Health: 10

Sim Overview: So partially to give myself something to post and also to keep up to date everyone who might need a refresher: here is the what has happened in the sim so far.

The Europa was dispatched to a system where a pre-warp civilization had been discovered and catalogued, marked for non-interference according to the Prime Directive. Recently a warp signature had been detected in this system by long range sensors. Did this civilization discover warp technology by themselves or has someone visited them? This was what the Europa was sent to find out.

Along the way an encrypted signal was detected from a short range distress beacon. It was discovered to be an old but still secure Starfleet cypher which led to the recovery of a cryo pod. The secured pod was revealed to contain Shane Warwick, once member of several different ships including the Europa. His health is not good and he’d been severely tortured before being rescued by friends but then jettisoned in the pod into space. It’s unknown how long he had been floating in cryo.

The Europa arrives in system and begins passively scanning and surveying everything. It’s a binary white dwarf star system with several barren rocks for planets and a gas giant with the only habitable planet tidally locked locked in its shadow. The leaves the gas giant to shield the planet from the majority of the intense radiation given off by the two stars. In orbit of the planet was a primitive space station with three craft docked to it. One craft undocked and moved away before performing a short warp hop. This seemed to prove that the civilization was at least in possession of warp technology, but now the question was did they develop it themselves?

While the crew discussed and theorized and intended on further investigating before making contact, the warp craft alignment to hop in warp to its origin point. The planet, utilizing a massive power production system, sent a beam of energy with pinpoint accuracy to recharge the craft’s capacitor but as is usually the case when playing with massive beams of power… something went awry. The craft went into warp but not back to its space station but in the direction of the stars. It was severely damaged and adrift after its warp bubble collapsed and left it stranded in a high radiation zone. Its meager shielding would only protect it for minutes at best, so the Captain ordered a rescue operation at once.

The Europa went to warp and maneuvered in front of the damaged craft before tractoring it into their shields. It was at this moment that a solar flare ejected from one of the stars and further damaged the craft but thankfully didn’t cause it to explode. Unfortunately something about the solar flare injured the Captain and caused him to begin having seizures. He was transported to sickbay and is in the good hands of the CMO but now command rests on the XO.

The XO, security, and medical gathered in the shuttle bay to inspect the craft and see to the hapless pilot. Life signs were weakening and it was dicey on whether they can be treated in time. As it stands now the pilot was transported to sickbay and the XO left for the bridge. Security is trying to find a way into the craft as the ship’s computer is unable to take control of it.

On the bridge a transmission is incoming from a non-warp craft seeking out their missing craft. Will they be answered or left hanging in their search? Only the XO knows at this point.

Spotlight: I’d like to spotlight Janice for keeping things moving while Joe is away due to real life issues. It has been pleasant to work with her as we figure out how to keep things going.

FComm’s Comments: Joe is excused from reporting this month. The Europa is buzzing with activity, which is a huge increase since last month. Ship Command seems to be actively addressing any AWOL issues, as well.

AFComm’s Comments: The Europa is finally getting back to where they belong. I wanna spotlight on Janice B and Matt Evans for keeping things moving along. I’m really proud of you guys stepping up and keeping the Black Fleet’s Flagship going.

USS Genesis

Commanding Officer: Luke Hung

Crew Posting Level: 8

Senior Staff Posting Level: 8

Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The ship is healthy finally with an active counselor. The sim is going well. We have a couple of side sims, both weddings. One of them is moving pretty quickly makes me wonder if there is a baby on board. We have a couple of AWOLs which I always been tolerant of, more so during Covid, but I also suspect that there is a need for a sim role for these guys. I will look into that this month.

Spotlight:

Vacancies:

Executive Officer: Hjortur Ingi

Crew Posting Level: 9

Senior Staff Posting Level: 8

Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: The sim is going well, posting is fairly regular with most staff avoiding losing out on posts, we have two AWOLs at the moment that are being dealt with internally, the third is most likely just late posting but I will be contacting them if it goes on longer.

We also have a few side-sims between characters not currently involved in the main sim, which is still in its early stages.

Overall health has been good and we’re hoping to be completely in the green by the next report.

Spotlight: For now, I’d like to shine the spotlight on our two newcomers DAvid Stiles and Leonora V who just joined STF This summer whose characters have started a romance thread that’s lasted a while. Promising new posters which are increasing the Genny’s love boat status.

Vacancies: Science Sub-DH’s: Computer Sciences, Xeno Botany, Cosmology, Planetary Sciences, Physics & Chemistry

Other Junior Officers in all departments

Captain’s Aide

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Crew Posting Level: 8

Senior Staff Posting Level: 9

Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: The Genesis is exploring uncharted space outside the Federation borders. She discovers a relatively new pulsar and nebula. Within it there seems to be a life form using the energy from the pulsar as nourishment. After some time, it moved and left the nebula near light speed towards a spatial anomaly. The Genesis is pursuing it, trying to study this newly discovered creature. An away team has left the ship to study the nebula. In the process, the sensors reveal that the creature disappears and then reappears a short moment later one light year nearer the anomaly. From the various jumps it has made in approximately 12 hour intervals, it is travelling at an average speed of Warp 7.25, although when on sensors it only travels slightly less than light speed. New sensor information shows that there is a subspace connection to the creature.

The away team has discovered that there are remains in some of the planets that are similar to the creature. There are no life signs however.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: While the Genesis does have two AWOLS (both are being addressed by ship command), the Genesis appears to be in great shape. Both CO and XO are on top of their game this month!

AFComm’s Comments: Another great month for the Genny. Not surprising. Huge props to Luke and Hjortur for keeping this “old bird” of a ship going.

USS Merrimack

Commanding Officer: David Fergusson

Crew Posting Level: 7

Senior Staff Posting Level: 7

Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Overall, the ship is looking good. Posting rates this month were slightly down on last month, but much improved from previous years. Everyone is involved in the current Sim. There have been two AWOLs but I have contacted those crew members and have received their reasonable excuses, promises to post soon, and to do better in future. All DH positions are filled. Most junior positions are filled. The crew is larger than it has been in many years, although I would still like to improve upon these numbers with further custom character positions. One thing I want to improve on the ship for next month is to stop anyone having to wait upon replies for longer than their own AWOL limits. The GM has moved on the Sim from the Merrimack to an away team aboard the alien ship.

Spotlight: My favourite moment/post on the ship this month would be around our first meeting with the aliens aboard their ship.

https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/merrimack/posts/107305/

Vacancies: Contact the Captain directly about vacancies on the USS Merrimack. The ship is 90% Human, although TOS Movie-era aliens are allowed. You can play a Junior Officer, or your pick of any custom character you can think of - Nurse, Yeoman, Navigator, Helm, Captain’s Chef, Ship’s Historian, Ship’s Physicist, and Transporter Chief.

Executive Officer: David Bennett

Crew Posting Level: 7

Senior Staff Posting Level: 8

Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: First contact eggshells. I think it’s going well. Robert is a good storyteller. As usual, we’re short on JOs.

Spotlight:

Vacancies: JOs in all departments.

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Crew Posting Level: 6

Senior Staff Posting Level: 6

Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: The Merrimack is doing swell this month, a little ups and downs but nothing I’m concerned over, beyond a few short LOAs and some brief AWOLing. Sim wise the sim has just gotten to the meat of things. To sum things up so far the Merrimack was tasked to follow a trail of 6 month to 10 year old breadcrumbs into unexplored space to potentially find a newly intelligent race somewhere out there. After several weeks and visiting several unclaimed systems the crew at their third stop has found an alien ship of low tech barely warp capable culture, stranded some distance from help or their home system. After a bit of work in getting communications established the crew has gone over to lend assistance where they can. Currently the comms officer is trying to better their already begun communication work, engineering is preparing to asses the alien ship’s needs for repairs, and medical is preparing to help the injured on the alien ship. Meanwhile the CO/XO are talking things out to learn more about their new hopefully alien friends.

Spotlight: Nothing really yet to spotlight this month other than mentioning I am happy to see the crew that we got active and healthy

FComm’s Comments: David has done a fantastic job with the Merrimack over the years and it really shows! Green across the board!

AFComm’s Comments: Way to go Merrimack! Green all across the board. Rob and the David Duo should be commended for this achievement.

Oed V

Commanding Officer: Russell Watt

Crew Posting Level: 1

Senior Staff Posting Level: 1

Overall Ship Health: 1

Ship Status: How is your ship looking overall?

Oed V is getting by. We’re still aren’t anywhere near where we can/should be but we are getting by. Most of the struggles is on me as Governor. As we look forward into November, there are a couple of key A long term story line run by Tony Findora is finally getting underway - his character is taking some people on a tour of the Oed System on board his private vessel.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

Our head of mining (played by Melissa Aragorn) has had a thread underway with our Lt Governor (played by Sidney Parker). Also, the folks who have joined Tony Findora’s tour of the Oed V solar system have been welcomed on board with a boarding meal.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.

I want to post more often and be there to interact with my crew more.

I’ve also got to get on and finish my revision of the Oed V MOTD. It’s been a project underway all year, along with the information page ofor Oed V. The posting is 1st, the Motd/Info page is 2nd.

Finally, in terms of RL, it seems the audit is underway successfully at the charity and they and work have both managed to whether the storms that 2020 has brought us all. So here’s hoping it continues to go well.

Spotlight:

Vacancies:

Executive Officer: Sidney Parker

Crew Posting Level: 5

Senior Staff Posting Level: 5

Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: Oed is doing better than it was last month but there is a lot of way to go to get back to healthy.

Spotlight: Melisa Aragon for some interesting and consistent posting as Head of Mining.

Vacancies: as usual on the civilian and SF side is needed to round out the colony

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: *Note CO ratings were submitted by mistake.
OED V has improved a lot since the last report. We do still see a few AWOLs that are being handled. Russ and Sid do need some more people to join, so please reach out to them if interested!

AFComm’s Comments: Oed is getting out if its hump. A lot better than last month. Hopefully next month will be better.

USS Wolverine

Commanding Officer: Terry Sullivan

Crew Posting Level: 7

Senior Staff Posting Level: 7

Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Still plugging along. Most of the crew has gone planet side on Risa to search for artifacts. Three teams now searching for a handful of the items. Hopefully, we’ll be able to gather them without too many distractions. Knowing out GM, though, I’m sure there will be.

A couple of new additions to the crew as well which I’m happy to see. D Grisham joins us as the new CIO, a position we haven’t had filled in a while, and Diana Sheldon returns to us with a medical JO. Diana was with us a few years ago, but had to leave the club before she was able to get fully indoctrinated.

Happy to have both aboard!!

Spotlight:

Vacancies: We could use at least 1 security JO. That will give us at least one JO in each department, but can always use more.

Executive Officer: James Sinclair

Crew Posting Level: 7

Senior Staff Posting Level: 7

Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: We are still on orbit around Risa with multiple away teams trying to ascertain the location of any more of the suspect items we are looking for.

Spotlight: Charles Stevens continues to shine as our resident dinosaur.

Vacancies:

Gamemaster: Jason Lee

Crew Posting Level: 7

Senior Staff Posting Level: 7

Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: The USS Wolverine is in a cross over type sim of basically Star Trek meets Warehouse 13. The ship is currently searching for artifacts on Risa and seeing who is trying to kill the Captain!

Spotlight: None at this time

FComm’s Comments: The Wolverine is only seeing 1 AWOL. The sim is progressing at a steady rate. Terry, James, and Jason are doing a fantastic job at ensuring everyone is staying engaged with the current sim. Side note: I’m still revising the Brazen Class specs, and should have the final product submitted within a few weeks.

AFComm’s Comments: I’m intrusion as to what the Wolverine crew finds on Risa. Will definitely be following the developments on that.
