The Black Fleet Report - April 2021
USS Constellation
Commanding Officer: Brian Richards
How is your ship looking overall? Since the appointment of my new XO, the Connie is doing amazingly. Posting is up, positions are being filled, and there are deep and funny interactions between the command staff and the forming of a rich environment that we will use to bring the Connie to further heights.
What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Two threads, the first is between the 2O played by Jennifer Ward and the CO: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/constellation/posts/132650/
Secondly our new CNS played by Trinity Fister, a proud Klingon at battle with.....a spider…: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/constellation/posts/132969/
Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Push to fill out those JO spots and progress with our sim. We’ve had a decent turnover of crew and need to finish getting the onboarding done before we can proceed.
Executive Officer: Matt Bongiorno
How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? After reviewing the past month, April has seen a decrease in posts from 103 in March to 98 for April. However, there was a significant increase during the last week of the month due to side sims. We have acquired a new CNS in Trinity Fister, who has been a refreshing burst of comedy to our crew. Leonora, our CMO, has been actively engaged across the ship. I would like to see more activity from our CE, Chief Helm, and CoS. Due to a real life issues our GM has been slower in posting. However, there will be more side sims coming up in the next month to provide more opportunities for the whole crew to post.
How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We currently do not have any JOs, however, we are actively seeking writers for those positions.
Who is the shining star this month? CO: Brian Richards and 2O: Jennifer Ward for holding the Connie together on their own as the GM and the previous XO both had real life hit them hard. I also want to thank the entire crew for hanging in with the Connie as a whole while the issues were addressed.
Gamemaster: Russell Watt
Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Plot? what plot, where we’re going we need no plots!
Just joking. The Constellation have just accidentally fired a torpedo on an asteroid of a new species on which training programs for their kids has just taken place. How do you accidentally fire on an asteroid? Don’t ask me, ask ensign Chuckles who was the doer of the deed, but in his defense he was telling a fishy story at the time. Actually you can’t ask him, because the Captain has thrown him in the brig … guess giraffes don’t like jokes
Ensign Jessie, the hypochondriac particle engineer is convinced she’s dying of a disease that only effects/affects the Gorn, she read about it PlayGorn monthly (she especailly likes Mr January’s scales, teeth and claw - roar) and is tying up the needs
Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Brian brought new people on board the ship, including a new XO, so I’d say Brian.
Fcomm’s Comments: Brian’s done a good job of getting the Connie in shape and posting regularly. He’s keeping me well updated with the ship’s situation and I’m confident in his ability to keep things in the green, as it were.
AFComm’s Comments: I’m ecstatic on how much growth the Connie has made in a month.
USS Europa
Commanding Officer: Joe P
How is your ship looking overall? We’re currently in the middle of re-aligning everyone around a shared sense of ship identity that seems to have been missing for the past few months. That’s resulted in 4 people being let go from the roster, but on the plus side the people who we do have right now are increasing their activity because morale seems to be increasing. Which is what I would really like to get out of this exercise.
What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Lindsay Bayes worked in a reference to “the pith hat” into a post, which is a reference to a thread we did in 2012/2013. That’s really all of the context anyone reading this report needs on that subject.
Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I’d really like to see the sim progress. It’s been stuck in a confused state that I think has frustrated nearly everyone involved. I’ve talked to most people about it and I think I know what it’s missing, so I’m prepared to give it a shove In Character, once my character has an opportunity to do so. Out of Character, I think that the entire crew needs to work a bit on thinking about the fact that this is a game that requires participation from other people, which means you sometimes need to put some specific effort towards helping them do that, and that it’s not sufficient to solely think in terms of your own individual effort.
Executive Officer: Janice B.
How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Aside from the struggles with real life, the DHs are making notable attempts to be involved with the main sim. Unfortunately, the progression is slow due to the same prior issues mentioned.
How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?At the present moment, the JOs appear active and involved in the Sims. None have fallen into AWOL status for too long and all of them found a way into a Sim.
Who is the shining star this month? At this point, I find it hard to pick one star this month as it’s a tie between Joe P, Amber DeSadie, and Lindsay Bayes. Joe P has made notable efforts to remain active and get involved again with the main sim in a smooth fashion. Amber’s and Lindsay’s Side Sims have done a great job of providing way to help keep others active and involved with exploring their characters.
Gamemaster: No report submitted
FComm’s Comments: After speaking with Joe, I am pleased with the progress Europa is making. It’s a good group and I think things are going to be just fine going forward. Posting is up substantially the last two weeks, and the roster has been trimmed. Matt is excused from his GM report this month.
USS Genesis
Commanding Officer: Luke Hung
How is your ship looking overall? Ship is doing well overall. The crew is very active in the main sim and several side sims are progressing. David Bennet has gotten into some action even though his character, Tom Jarvis’ design can be very limiting to interacting with his fellow officers. I’ve decided that this is due to the superior leadership of his Captain… (i’m not sure who that is, but whoever he is he’s GREAT.) Posting rate might be a little down right now, but not significantly so.
What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The bridge main sim thread is humming along nicely and there are several nice posts in there.
Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. We still need a CSO although people have been picking up the work of a CSO nicely so the sim has not been affected.
Executive Officer: No report submitted
Gamemaster: No report submitted
FComm’s Comments: Genesis seems to be plugging along, I’m not worried, as Luke has done a good job thus far, and I trust him to continue that work going forward. However, XO and GM reports are not excused at this time.
USS Merrimack
Commanding Officer: David Fergusson
How is your ship looking overall? The ship is healthy. Most officers and crew posting within limits. We’ve lost one DH this month who was AWOL for the last two months, and a crew member, however, our numbers have remained at this same level for years. The ship is also in good repair and morale is high. The Sim is engaging and has some mystery about it. We are in the middle stages now. Most of the senior crew is partaking of a diplomatic luncheon, while the CSO in command of the Merrimack has gone to help the Alstaireans rescue a ship, thought to be a returning sleeper ship. There are still some questions about the Alstaireans so we have brought a shuttlecraft down to the surface while the Merrimack is away. We are slowly learning more about their society, history and culture without it appearing to be an interrogation. They are interested in the diversity of the UFP but seem concerned about other threats that are not members. Given that until recently they had no idea of any other civilisations, this is only to be expected.
What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? This is more than Kord has ever said about himself or of Cheron. It is probably the longest speech Glen has ever heard him make. If must be the influence of Tiastri upon him.
https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/merrimack/posts/131034/
Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I’d still like the posts made to be more open ended rather than closed down, so that a reply is demanded, and then a conversation naturally develops.
I need to replace the CMO and we can always use more crew if they are able to self sim and start threads at times when there isn’t an obvious place to jump in to the existing.
Executive Officer: No report submitted
Gamemaster: Robert Archer
Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Merrimack has entered a system now known as Alstaire Prime home of the Alstaire people, a monogender race of only females. The race recently achieved low level warp flight and the Merrimack helped rescue their test ship after investigating these warp pulses. After some debate the crew are meeting with the Alstaire Tri-Council while the remaining crew go to help what seems to be one of the Alstaire’s lost sleeper ships returning home.
Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? It was largely a group effort to move things forward this past month.
FComm’s Comments: Merrimack looks excellent, as usual. XO report, however, is not excused as no communication was made to me about it.
Oed V
Commanding Officer: James Sinclair
How is your ship looking overall? The colony is making great progress. We had a total of 265 posts in the month of April; and we are steadily increasing our roster. Multiple side sims are active and very engaging. This month we passed our first 30 day review and I am confident we will do the same on our next review.
What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The verbal sparring between the new Governor and the Lieutenant Governor is a personal favorite. It should be interesting to see how these two get on the same page… if they do at all.
https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/oedv/posts/132959/
Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I would like to see some of the Star Fleet roles that are available filled out on the roster. Active and consistent recruiting is key for the success of the colony.
Executive Officer: Sidney Parker
How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Activity is very high by the main role players and we have a lot of new ones so its looking real good. Basically Oed one big side sim so all is well. The new Governor is driving a lot of posting but now I see that his activity is starting to spur more individual posting as well.
How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?I see every player on Oed as a main player. Now there are minor players, usually second characters of current players, who are posting well. So all good there as well.
Who is the shining star this month? Obviously its James as the new Governor. I was fearful his incredible amount of posting might cause quick burnout and may make the players dependent on him to post but I am now seeing others picking it up. I’m not ready to say what will happen when he lets up some but he has really taken the lead on Oed and is the reason the colony is on fire right now.
Gamemaster: No report submitted
FComm’s Comments: Oed has improved greatly, James and Sid have done an excellent job, and I look forward to working with them going forward!
USS Wolverine
Commanding Officer: No report submitted
Executive Officer: James Sinclair
How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The ship is relatively slow at the moment. I attribute this to the RL conflicts the CO is temporarily experiencing; as well as some slowing of the main sim. Everyone is participating, and few AWOLs are problematic.
How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? With so few JO’s on board, it isn’t very problematic. I would like to see more opportunity for them in the Main Sim, though.
Who is the shining star this month? D Grisham as CIO Fin. She has added depth to her character and an edge to the ship that sets the Wolverine back on track as an unorthodox ship with an even more unorthodox crew.
Gamemaster: No report submitted
FComm’s Comments: Terry is excused from his CO report due to RL issues, James seems to be doing well keeping the ship going. Gm report, however, is not excused.
Over all, I’m satisfied with the progress Black Fleet has made this month. The Command Teams are working hard, and dealing with the things they should be dealing with. There’s been a couple of hiccups but everything I was worried about going into this month has been addressed, and it seems the issues will be worked out, if they haven’t already.
May is already shaping up to be a better month.
