The Meridian Fleet Report - April 2021

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: Sidney Parker

How is your ship looking overall? The Olinski is going very well. The ship is busy enough to keep the sim moving. New players are slowly getting involved and the GM has a great sim developing. Overall it’s looking good.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month? Not a particular post or thread but just the new interactions between the new CSO and CE with the CO and XO.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. DH’s getting more self initiated activity and getting the Fighter Wing more active now that the CAG can post a little more.

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We actually have a couple of extra DH, because of some swings. They are posting near the max posting limit with one exception on both ends. One is averaging just over the posting rate and one is one or two days under the posting rate. They are interacting in the sim where appropriate, but I think the fact that we have virtually no junior officers is hurting us.

How are the JOs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? What junior officers? I guess we have two. One is basically AWOL the other is doing very well.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm Team’s Comments: 75 posts in April and a good spread of engagement across the crew in all threads, for our first report we arehappy to see the Olinski healthy and hope to see more crew joining.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: No report submitted, excused

Executive Officer: Trinity Fister

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We saw our CMO (James Sinclair as Solomon Kane) and CE (Melissa Aragon as Bridgette Marshall) off to new endeavors this month. It’s been a treat getting to know their characters, and I wish them well wherever their writing takes them next! Sadly, their departures have left two crucial roles vacant that I hope to fill in the next month. Otherwise, it’s been a fairly active month for the DHs.. a special thanks to Miriam W (who plays our Weapons Officer) for continuing to facilitate the MainSIM and wow us with little blurbs of Galdori culture & science!

How are the JOs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? Chernov’s JOs have been rockstars this month, especially with the DH and Command LOAs around mid-April. Several side sims are going on, from training to late-night snacks and the much-begrudged early morning meetings. They seem to be keeping everyone busy. MainSIM-wise, I look forward to seeing more JO action next month as things start to pick-up on the Research Platform and planet surface.

Who is the shining star this month? Matt Bongiorno has delighted us with his portrayal of the new security officer/helmswoman Evelyn Gruver. And James Sinclair concluded his time with Chernov with an exceptional post (https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/chernov/posts/133188/) co-written with Travis Good!

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm Team’s Comments: 105 posts in April with a blend of main sim and side sim action beyond the usual check in. A helpful crew wanting to keep those engaged and create a welcoming environment. April began with the CO out on LOA and we don’t see that as having affected the ship negatively.

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: Steven Sigle

How is your ship looking overall? Overall slow, but that is the curse sometimes of a slower ship. Getting some new crew involved and the AWOLS have been lessened but trying to get more people involved. Overall it’s tipping back into the direction I like to see with less AWOLS and more crew interaction.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month? Kate O’Neill and James Wolf have had some interesting scenes in the main sim as we try to board and find out what we can do to help. Intrigue and mystery surround them as David Shotton coordinates to make certain nothing goes wrong… but it always does. That’s the life of a Starfleet officer.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. Right now posting, we have been making good progress on the main sim but I want to get some side sims really into high gear and have everyone involved.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm Team’s Comments: 47 posts in April, the Odin is indeed slower but the blend of main sim and side sim is keeping interactions going. There is some unique character development going on that shows the character of the ship well.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm Team’s Comments: While the Saracen had 79 posts in April, we are highly concerned with the current status moving into May. The ship has a high number of AWOLS / LOA’s and little activity. We are going to be working closely with the Command crew to hopefully address those concerns.

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: J Ridgley

How is your ship looking overall? We are still in the early days of our simm though things are moving along nicely now, we’ve had some DH departures but I’m not overly worried about the health of the ship as we are still maintaining a good level of posts.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month? Nibbles and Mushu by Jennifer and River has been a great read especially for me as I’ve had a busy month where my participation as been rather low.

https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/sentinel/posts/133347/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. I’d like to get more people involved in the simm and increase my own activity, however this will really be dictated by RL issues.

Executive Officer: No report submitted, excused

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Sentinel has been sent to the Sigma 9 mining colony where they are to investigate the disappearances of several miners and security staff. The landing party is currently preparing to examine the solar collectors of the colony for odd behavior, while the ship side crew continue to scan the planet below.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Overall I feel it was a group effort to move things forward this past month.

FComm Team’s Comments: 278 posts for April the Sentinel is a healthy ship. The AWOL’s are creeping up there as we roll into May but with the exception of a few most are only a day or two out. Plenty of side sims and good character development across departments.

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: Jennifer Ward

How is your ship looking overall? The Viking is struggling. When I took over the last week of April the roster was 4 of 12 crew AWOL. Before taking over, as AFComm, I was aware that earlier in the month Viking was at 100% AWOL. I am happy to say that right now we are sitting at 3 AWOLs, only one extreme, but all have been contacted. The Sim is moving along and the crew is engaged. We have new crew and posting has increased in just a few days.

Viking has a ways to go to return to a strong healthy ship, but I am confident in the crew to recover.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? My favorite line has to be from Samuel Stroud, my XO. He plays a seasoned officer, nearing the end of his career. He’s seen it all and done it all. Upon his first meeting with the new CO, who happens be to be over 500 years old, he had this to say: “He was ready to work with someone with more experience than himself. something that was not super common these days.”

https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/viking/posts/133461/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. I want to improve on the AWOLs. Although this was a problem that I addressed immediately it is a work in progress. I hope to get on top of these and help to motivate the crew to engage more.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Sim Overview: The Viking has crossed paths with a large, over 800 year old starship, which appears to be unoccupied. The star-ship itself seems to be trying to communicate with the Viking using prime numbers, then a picture - word library… old school translation before the universal translator. At this point the Captain and crew are deciding what to do as the ‘Ghost’ ship approaches at warp 2. I presume eventually they will board her… muahhh ahh haaa…

Brian’s Comments: Viking went through a rocky start to April with the retirement of her CO and a 100% AWOL rate to start. As Jenn took the reins the ship was brought to a far healthier place with her guidance. I’m thankful that there is a fresh influx of crew and interest in the Viking and any AWOLS at time of writing are just a day or two out of posting limits.

FComm Team Comments: We are happy to report that our shining star for April is the Sentinel. She had more posts than any ship and they are really rocking it in terms of character development and embracing the TOS atmosphere. Most of the COs XOs and GMs are active with a few exceptions both IC and OOC. The Chernov’s CO report was excused given reported health issues and the Sentinel’s XO report is excused due to RL pressures discussed. Besides those two cases there is an unhealthy amount of unexcused reports, including the entire command staff of the Saracen.
