The Pioneer Fleet Report - April 2021

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: Miriam W

How is your ship looking overall? The ship is looking pretty good, considering the change in leadership. I’ve been able to settle into my spot and CO and I think D is doing pretty well as XO, especially in regards to posting and helping people stay busy. There are a few people who are still not posting regularly, but I think every ship has that!

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Although an awkward exchange for the characters, the interactions between Daggum Hammor and our new XO, Tello Anaar, are very amusing to read.
https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/athena/posts/133281/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. In the next month, I want to start looking into recruiting to fill the roles that were emptied by the change-over and the subsequent promotions. I wanted to give it a little time to let the existing crew adjust to the new normal, but I’m definitely going to see who I can convince to join the Athena from now on.

Executive Officer: D Grisham

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We are at the beginning of a sim and most of the DHs have gathered in the lounge for a party. There is a lot of conversation and camaraderie going on as new officers meet already well established ones. The main topic is discussing the upcoming visit to the ‘Fantasy Planet’. No one is quite sure what to expect. I’m sure its a take on Fantasy Island, but I think not everyone will have a happy ending.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? There isn’t as much activity from all the JO’s, however Viyara Nazeen has definitely established a presence around the ship. I’m also enjoying Marishka—I have written with Catt’s character before and really liked her. She’s a fascinating woman.

Who is the shining star this month? If I think of the shining star as the person who’s posts I looked forward to reading the most this month, it would have to be Ian Kirby and his character Stark Nightstalker. There is a sureness and ease to his Caitian that I haven’t experienced with a lot of others I have read.

Gamemaster: Ian Kerby

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: (due to personal reasons the sim has not progressed this month)

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? There hasn’t been anyone in particular doing this, this month probably due to the fact that I haven’t been able to move the Sim forward myself.

AFComm’s Comments: The Athena saw the end of one chapter and the bright beginnings of another this last month. Her new command team have hit the ground running and while there have been some changes to the roster and RL hitting some posting the ship is looking good. Sim progress has slowed but there’s plenty of things going on and a lot to be proud of. Well done guys.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

How is your ship looking overall? The Atlantis had 172 posts for the month of April. This is about where the ship should be posting based on the size and speed of the ship. The main sim is moving along with a lot of people involved in the two settings. The crew has had some AWOL’s and LOA’s but it is mainly due to real-life interference and not a lack or desire to post. The stories on the ship are intriguing and well thought out. There are numerous side sims that let many people learn more about each character. We had two new crew added to the ship this month and I have been enjoying seeing how their stories are unfolding.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I am loving the main sim. Luke Hung has hit it out of the park with a moral dilemma that is bound to have unforeseen consequences. Besides who doesn’t love a scene with pirates.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I would like to encourage the crew to continue to take chances with their stories and ideas. They are so creative and come up with such amazing posts. I want everyone to know that they can take chances, explore ideas, and take risks because, with the group of writers I have on the Atlantis, the ship always has amazing results.

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?As with most ships we are fairly top heavy with DH’s, though all are active be it in a side sim or the main sim. The ship is active with both sim and side sim threads. While the main sim is a bit bogged down in conflicting negotiations which is slowing down the energy in the main sim. It is a bit amazing how proprietary some feel regarding Federation tech. Hopefully they will be willing to fix the ship with a trade of toothpicks.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We’ve a smaller amount of JO’s with a couple of departments without them. Medical is the department without a cause at the moment and it is showing with activity, though engineering is moving. In short we have more broken bits on the ship than broken people to fix. I suppose on one side that is not a bad thing.

Who is the shining star this month? My Goodness! But Jennifer Ward is everywhere and incredibly creative and humorous in her posting. Definitely the bright star that I need sunglasses for. Good job!

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: (1) Approximately a week ago (game time) the Atlantis was pulled into a graviton ellipse dragging her 50,000 light years from Federation Space. A ship carrying at least one crew member who identified himself as “Wayne ‘The Rock’ Gretzky” and is known by the local inhabitants of the region as the ‘Great One’ was also traveling in the ellipse and ‘rescued’ the Atlantis by pulling her from the ellipse before it traveled even further from the Federation.

The damage was extreme from the ellipse… including hull, electronic, warp, and other systems. One power conduit burned a vertical hole through four decks of the ship. Since your arrival you came to a Neutral Diplomacy star base, known as Base 5. While there, one party of the ship lost their tricorder and phaser and during the subsequent search for the weapon, security personnel and officers, stunned local ‘purple and gold safety officers’ leading to a stand off with the Base itself.

Currently the ship pursued a pirate carrier that attacked a freighter into a asteroid field. Instead of capturing the ship the ship has gotten into a negotiation for repairs.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Gene Gibbs is a role playing machine.

FComm’s Comments: Fantastic activity on the Atlantis this month. There are a couple of vacancies that would be wonderful if they got filled, but I’m happy with the progress. Great job guys and gals!

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

How is your ship looking overall? Overall we are okay, a few AWOLs and vacancies to address though. Aside from that, I think we’re in good shape.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I have two favorite threads right now:

Interaction of the marine fighters as they run escort duty through the mines: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/chimera/posts/134049/

Boarding physical of our CSO, the interaction between Kieron and Trinity is a fantastic read: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/chimera/posts/133758/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I will be looking to recruit a new COS this month and maybe snag some more JOs for my wonderful DHs.

Executive Officer: AJ Paulson

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?My DHs are doing fine, even though we’re down a CoS.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?JOs seem to be active. I’m really enjoying seeing them getting involved.

Who is the shining star this month? James Sinclair for constantly staying active all month long

Gamemaster: Gene Gibbs

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Commodore Moll, Chairman of the Corporation and Fleet Subcommittee on Starbase 157, has tasked the Chimera to an area of space called the Scar, an angular nebula that holds several unaligned worlds and three Federation mining colonies sub contracted through civilian corporations. The Magnus Corporation holds the rights on Mining Station Plouton 9. Mason Larden, a lawyer for the Corporation is accompanying the Chimera crew to assess additional ‘safety irregularities’. The Sheriff has been murdered and the deputy is the principle suspect. The Corporation has requested assistance in investigating this murder and, if needed, help keep order there until the ‘law’ could be restored. Due to the political ‘instability’ of the region the Chimera has also been tasked to assist in a survey to understand the region better, and seek out the USS Shogun which Starfleet has lost contact on. The USS Shogun had been patrolling the area to keep an eye on the region’s Starfleet interests there and provide deterrence from the unaligned worlds who were often in conflict and disappeared without a trace.

En route, the different departments were individually prepped by way of Mason Larden’s team. While Mason discussed the issues at the Station and the murder with the command crew, engineering surveyed the cargo that was taken aboard – large mobile replicator units capable of dispensing any volumes of programmed bulk equipment. Science and Medical were briefed by Sung-Ho, who revealed that the planet had qualities that had narcotic effects requiring vaccinations to counter. Security and the Flight Group were briefed by a woman named Regina who shared Intel about pirates in the region and the patrolling required to protect the valuable mining cargo as they made their way from Plouton 9 to the Transfer Station outside of the Scar.

Having arrived, the Chimera has been in touch with the Administrator, Jane Hardiman, who outlined a number of tasks that the Chimera could undertake. As we leave off, Security has beamed down to investigate the murder site accompanied by David Stone, Chief Foreman. He has escorted some to the incarceration center to question the primary suspect, Willis Kramer. Willis was the deputy to the sheriff who was killed. Engineering has been in contact with Walter Niven, Maintenance chief, regarding the transport of the bulk replicators the Chimera ferried over. The Captain is investigating pirate activity and last known information about the Shogun for further investigation and has learned some details regarding a ship graveyard, ostensibly called the ‘boneyard’. The flight crew has launched to escort the convoy of ships out of the Scar to the Transfer Station outside of the nebula. While clearing a blockade of asteroids, an old mine has attached to the vessel doing the clearing. The fighters are investigating this and how to rectify this potential emergency.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? James Sinclair and Nathan Derricutt have been splendid in pushing ahead with the flight group escorting the convoy to the Transfer Station. Great IC playing and presence. Good job guys!

FComm’s Comments: A bit of turnover in some of the DH positions and AWOLs which concern me. Activity has been decent during April though, so I’m hoping this is just a blip and crew retention improves.

USS Dresden

Commanding Officer: Joana Ribeiro

How is your ship looking overall? Posting on the Dresden remained steady during the month of April, with the main sim moving along nicely and some side sims alongside it. There were the normal share of AWOLs and LOAs but nothing out of the ordinary. I expect May to carry on at the same pace, as James throws some exciting developments at the crew!

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Usually, I’ll try to highlight side sims as they usually don’t take as much of the spotlight as the main sim does. However, this month, I would like to spotlight our wonderful GM, James Sinclair, for his amazing sim and the incredible hard work he has consistently put in it. Hard work that has earned him the award for Best Mission during the STF Awards last March, and that he very much deserves. Congratulations, James!!! One of the threads that I have been enjoying immensely (both reading and participating on) is Docking and Talking where the Dresden’s crew has been actively trying to communicate with a new alien race, with some interesting results.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Right now expanding the Dresden’s roster is the priority, and I am expecting us to focus on recruiting during the next month.

Executive Officer: Ben Z

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The Dresden has had a great month for posting, where we hit OK (0) across the board for the entire crew multiple times! The sim is currently in a bvery exciting scenario, which has kept everyone engaged and on their toes. e have one group of DHs (CMO, COS, CNS, and marine cmdr) boarding the alien ship and another (CTO, CSO) working on getting more information about the anomaly on the bridge. We are currently without a CE, which seems like it might be an important position for helping to get both the alien ship and the station back online, so if anyone wants to jump into an engaging sim with a easy place to start, please let us know!

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We currently do not have any non-NE JOs, which is something that we are trying to change! If anyone would like to join a great group of writers who value descriptive and in-depth writing, please message me through the email link on my profile or through Discord @ Zenbe10#6656. We would love to work with you to bring a unique character to life, including swing positions. Side sims are encouraged on the Dresden, especially those that feel like they could be their own side-episode of a Star Trek show.

Who is the shining star this month? James Sinclair, for his amazing sim Who Watches the Watchers! James won the STF April 2021 award for Best Mission for this sim, which is great especially because it is his GME. We’ve been having a blast with the sim and James has been a very understanding GM as he’s worked with us on telling a great story despite all the chaos in the real world this past year. We are lucky to have him every month, but this month especially his GMing skills have been on full display!

Gamemaster: James Sinclair

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Dresden has been tasked with finding out why the prototype stellar observatory Julian Echo Station has not communicated in weeks. Upon their arrival, they discovered an unknown alien vessel docked and the station completely enveloped in some kind of temporal distortion field. The aliens, an unknown race calling themselves ‘Lidrians’ are only able to communicate via music, so the Universal Translator is struggling to keep up. Only by establishing communications and finding out why the station is locked in time will the crew of the Dresden be able to free the station and discover what happened.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? William Deaton as the Chief of Security Issac Forgrave. Not only did he let Issac get zapped by an unknown alien tech, he has been timely and proactive in his responses to the sim thread.

AFComm’s Comments: A good month for the Dresden in terms of the sim and posting. Some AWOLs and LOAs as Joana said but the ship seems to have continued on despite this and engagement seems to be progressing nicely. There’s so,e good positions opened up on the Dresden so well worth a check out. Good job folks

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Calé Reilly

How is your ship looking overall? We’ve had some roster changes and RL got in the way for a few of sum myself included this month. However the senior staff are active and the main sim is beginning to heat up.Theres lots of fun side sims going on which are a pleasure to read and the character development is amazing. Well done all

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? This moth my fav route moment was the XO squaring off against the director in the transporter room. I loved the dynamic there but honestly I have loved catching up with all of the side sims so I can’t actually pick one moment.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. We are going to get the sim progressing further and engagement to continue growing as we welcome some new people, tie off some goodbyes and get ready for our close ups!

Executive Officer: Lindsay Bayes

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We’ve had some roster changes and RL stuff continues for many, but the senior staff on the whole are much more active. The main sim is still in its early stages so most people are just learning about the camera crew nonsense in the staff meeting and how that might affect their departments. Where people are able to side sim, there are plenty going on!

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? For the most part, those who are active and present are VERY active. It’s great! There are lots of wonderful interactions going on and I think there’s a lot more intermingling happening. It’s great to see.

Who is the shining star this month? Amie Genest plays our Chief of Psychiatry and is pretty busy with the crew. It’s good to see the different interactions.

Trinity Fister recently joined as our Assistant CMO and is settling in very nicely indeed. I especially loved the mother-son dynamic and their interactions with our Chief of Staff.

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Owie has been charged with proving the need for a medical dedicated ship, or at least more of them, and is thus playing host to the enigmatic Farber Golfink, a well respected and flamboyant director and his crew, thus far composed of twin Russians (Boris and Svetlana), a pair of Vulcan journalists (Invun and Dol), Preem his long suffering unjoined Trill assistant, and a cast of other people to make the circus run at top efficiency.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Lindsey and Amber both really helped get traction going on the main sim but a shout out to Silke, Matt, Russ, and Nick for also engaging with the main sim threads!

FComm’s Comments: The sim seems to be shaping up amusingly well, with Geoff on-track to cause the entire crew to rage at the camera crew. There have been a few AWOLs but activity has stayed strong with both the main sim and various side sims.

Outpost 42

Commanding Officer: Adam W.

How is your ship looking overall? April was a slow month, continuing the trend that began in December. But looking at the roster as I write this there’s actually only one character AWOL and also the activity seems to have perked up at the beginning of May. We’ve got a few nice side sims going on and we continue to maybe, sort of, or maybe not, head in the direction of wrapping up the crazy and wonderful main sim Liam has led us in.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Spotlight:
Melissa Aragon. It’s always so fun to read Melissa’s writing, whether you are in the thread or not. I feel like the side sim “Is there a Klingon word for ‘help’?” is really making her character Char shine. The crew of the Outpost is going to have their hands full as Char explains to them exactly what the best way to do absolutely everything is. I can’t wait.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. There’s a bit of momentum there that was missing a week ago or so. We need to keep it going to avoid having people feel like they are stuck. Fortunately, the crew is dependable and proactive. People very rarely leave the Outpost. I assume that means everybody is having a good time!

Executive Officer: Kate O’Neill

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The OP’s posting rate for the DH’s has begun to pick up also after a string of LOA’s dealing with personal issues among the crew appear to be ending. The DH’s are posting in the main sim and helping it move along. Most of the command staff has a side sim for character development and are posting to it as ideas come.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The OP’s posting rate has begun to pick up now that everyone is coming off the LOA’s and other things in real life that impacted posting. The Faris Prime thread has Jessica and Aedan returning home but maybe not to the peace and seclusion they left. Tenkiller is hosting an art exhibit and making a ton of money for charity. Nathan and Chloe are about to welcome their new child but lets hope they can get through dinner first. Char’kat Morden is in talks with the CO about setting up resident in the Outpost. Everyone seems to have a plan and a story and the are so much fun to read.

Who is the shining star this month? Mel Aragon. Due to personal reasons, she had to take an LOA for a bit but she is back with a lot of good posts. She has also been integral as our OP42 Romulan to help us along with the Subcommander Teller and Tenkiller are debriefing.

Gamemaster: Liam Schoepp

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: And now the final pieces fall into place, Romulan’s from another time, invaders from another place, and a woman at the centre of it all who promises that she can fix it all. Will the crew trust her word, or will they try to forge their own path? In any case, the question remains…

What consequences will their choice make?

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? This month’s contributor is Kate O’Neill for her work in trying to convince the time-displaced Romulan’s to work with the Federation, especially with her character’s latest speech. Great job!

AFComm’s Comments: The sim is progressing towards the end of the story and it’s an exciting climax building. While some posting has been slow the slow speed of the OP sees that working well and there has been some definite improvements in DH staff presence and involvement in the sim. Side sims still continue to engage players and the character development has been good. Well done everyone.
