The Meridian Fleet Report - May 2021

Posted June 12, 2021, 11:08 p.m. by Captain Brian Richards (Fleet Commander, Meridian Fleet) (Brian Richards)

Big thanks to Jenn for taking the reigns for the majority of May while I’ve been dealing with an absolute overload on work and family.

The Meridian Fleet Report - May 2021

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We have three heavy AWOLs and one DH on an extended leave so they are a little behind. I’ve sent out a wave of come to STF emails, but one is so far out - he might just be a goner.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? Junior officers are doing better, only one is out of requirements out of 8 junior officers so that’s not too bad.

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Olinski had rescued a Tholian ship from several Breen ships in Federation space. The Tholian ship is not one that Starfleet had encountered before. The Breen had declared war on the Federation because they had warned the Olinski not to interfere. For the first time in history, the Tholians were willing to meet with the Federation to negotiate some form of arrangement. This was because the Tholian ship had ventured into Federation space without permission. The Olinski has escorted the Tholian ship to Starbase to meet up with Tholian representatives to see what the next steps are. In the meantime, Starfleet is bracing for battles with Breen ships.

AFComm’s Comments: The Olinski has a few AWOLs but the command crew is on top of that and we are confident in their ability to decide how to proceed with each. The GM reports the sim is progressing and the crew is active.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: Travis Good

How is your ship looking overall? The ship is looking good considering. We are down a few key spots and with my absence the ship did suffer. That was my fault and I take responsibility. I and the XO will be reforming the ship.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month? The post that most got me was between Kane and I when he died. I know it was last month but it still resonates with me. My second favorite one is between the XO and our doctor/Counselor. They are talking about how to best utilize the Counselor while talking about their own problems.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. I want improve posting and the roster.

Executive Officer: Trinity Fister

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? Due to some IRL matters, there’s been a slight lull in DH activity this month. The quality, however, hasn’t been compromised! Hjortur and Miriam’s posts are always a delight to read. Currently, we are without a CMO and CE. If anyone is interested in dabbling in the AOS era, please let us know. We’d be happy to answer any burning (or just tickling) questions you have! :)

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? May was an overall good month for Chernov’s JOs. We had a few LOAs and AWOLs, which impacted activity a tad, but everyone has done a great job finding/making places to hop in.

Who is the shining star this month? A spotlight on James Grey, who authors Chernov’s resident programmer Ensign Alexander Blaze. James has done a fantastic job in developing his character (and position) while making places to hop in even when it seems there are none. I appreciate his initiative, and I cannot wait to see where he takes Alexander’s story!

And a spotlight on Christopher Logan, who pens Chernov’s comms- and helmswoman, Lieutenant (j.g.) Sara Lovejoy. His character’s drive, coupled with a sense of uncertainty and curiosity, makes her relatable in the best of ways. I’m excited to have a front-row seat to her growth on the Chernov!

AFComm’s Comments: Chernov is doing well. Real life seems to have slowed things down a bit but we are happy to see that Chernov is a place where players continue to enjoy, relax, and find fun and reprieve.

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: Steven Sigle

How is your ship looking overall? Ship has been working well with the main sim as preparation for the new side sim, ala Die Hard in space, gets set up.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month? The whole crew has gathered for the baby of Captain Calin and Counselor Salazar. It has been what feels like a lifetime, but baby Etak has arrived!

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. I need to find some more JOs and get a CSO. That is my goal.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: After rescuing a freighter from pirates, the Odin pursued the pirate ship to a system that was not under any power. They discovered that the system housed people who had been in trouble with their governments or wanted to be free from the various powers. Receiving permission from the ‘leaders’ of the system, away teams were sent to various parts of the planet to see if there were any clues to the pirates. A ship was detected trying to sneak out of the system and was boarded by the Odin security team. The crew of the ship were teenagers, except for the captain, who was about 30. As the ship’s power started to drain, a cloaking device within the ship deactivated and the Odin was able to determine that the ship was indeed the pirate ship. The Odin’s crew are now considering the next steps to take.

AFComm’s Comments: The Odin continues to be a healthy ship. The sim is moving the crew is active and we have no concerns.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: David Shotton

How is your ship looking overall? After a bit of a slow time the Saracen is beginning to come together nicely. With Ffion needing to step away from writing for a time the amazing Terry Sullivan slides the ships Chief Intelligence Officer, Daniel “DaVinci’ Colter into the Executive Officer slot. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Terry for offering to step into the role, also because the Saracen is about to have a fantastic new GM join us to kick off a new Sim.

In crew shuffles, James Sinclair moves his Chief of Security to the Tactical Officer role with Melissa Aragon returning to the Chief of Security position with her ex-CoS on the Saracen, Ush’ast Rah-Triton.

With a new XO and an incoming GM, the ship is in a great spot to kick of a new Sim.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. With a few position switches and the incoming GM and Terry moving to XO, it’s a great opportunity to get some interest and excitement going on the ship and get people involved. Our two newest recruits in Emma and Nicole have done great writing when they have been able to be active through a few things happening in RL for them, but they are a fantastic addition.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: Although there is no report submitted this month for Saracen, I am not concerned. Currently there is no GM but a new one has been found and will be starting later this month. The Saracen has obtained a new XO as well. The CO is exempt this month. The CO has engaged the crew in several side sims while they await the start of a new sim. Some members of the crew have continued to self-sim the old sim (from the previous GM) and other side threads are continuing. The Saracen is looking up and an increase in activity looks promising as the month progresses.

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Personally I’m a little concerned with the slow progress of the sim since last month, mostly due in part to the awols/loas and such of the crew due to life. But such is what happens now and then.

The landing party is studying the solar collectors still and trying to puzzle out what is causing the energy problems, meanwhile on the ship the same creeping energy problems seems to have begun to effect the Sentinel as well!

AFComm’s Comments: Both the CO and XO are exempt from submitting reports this month due to RL events happening at the time of submission. Both the FComm and AFComm are members of the crew of Sentinel and though the sim is moving slower, as the GM states, the crew is healthy and active with a strong command crew. The crew is working through the puzzles the GM has put forth and though moving slower interest is still high. There are also several side sims progressing allowing interesting views into the characters on board.

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: Jennifer Ward

How is your ship looking overall? Viking is doing wonderfully this month. The roster is starting to fill out and people are actively posting to side sims and check-ins. AWOL’s are much better, with only two at the moment, and notices having gone out. Posting has gone from 53 posts in April to a HUGE 153 for the month of May!!

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month? I simply can’t pick between these two. The first is to be a thread involving a returning crew member, a former Borg drone! It has provided a nice way to show the history of Viking but also allow her to move foreword into a new chapter. A really wonderful piece involving Sci Jo Reira Akaba(Stephen MacDonald), CIO Peter Sigmundsson (Hjortur Ingi), and CoS Eldorin Asam (Brian Richards)

The second is a wonderful thread by our new CNS Janusz Korczak (Played by the super talented James Sinclair). His take on the psychological problems cropping up due to Vikings horrific past as outstanding and his solutions spot on.

Side Sim - CNS Office - Reviews and Understanding - https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/viking/posts/139007/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. Posting to the main sim is slow, and I am hoping to increase the activity to the main sim as my focus for next month.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Viking has crossed paths with a large, over 800 year old starship, which appears to be unoccupied. The star-ship itself seems to be trying to communicate with the Viking using prime numbers, then a picture - word library… old school translation before the universal translator. The ship is now within transporter range and the ship seems to directing the crew to a particular room.

FComm’s Comments: The Viking is doing wonderfully, a three fold increase in posting rate and many fresh faces and plenty of healthy side sims. I’m exceptionally happy with how the ship is performing and am very pleased with how Jenn and team are making the Viking a healthy example for other ships to follow.
