The Meridian Fleet Report - September 2021

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: Sidney Parker

How is your ship looking overall? not bad looking overall. However we lost several players suddenly after being a full DH crew. This has affected posting. I think the sim needs to kick it up into some action to get the players more involved. This may help and it may help recruit as I try on Discord to fill the vacancies.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/olinski/posts/149665/

A few players have allowed me to join a side sim and screw it up with a killer loose on the holodeck.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Getting players who actually stay in STF and on the ship long enough for them to enjoy it and establish themselves.

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Pretty good. The are pretty much all within AWOL limits with one exception, but the general posting has been consistent. Two short side sims and one long one are going which will keep our posting rates solid.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Junior officers are working in the side sims, not so much in the main sim, which is what might be slowing the main sim down a little.

Who is the shining star this month?

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Olinski had been sent to investigate a skirmish between a Tholian ship and a squad of Breen fighters within Federation space. After saving the Tholian ship, the Breen claim that by firing on them, the Federation had declared war on the Breen. After negotiations with the Tholians and being allowed on the new large Tholian carrier, several Tholian web spinners are sent to aid in the defence of Federation borders as two squadron of Breen fighters approach Starbase 310.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

AFComm’s Comments: In addition to the main sim there are several side sims happening, allowing for opportunity to post. Posting is consistent with no concerns about AWOL. Getting newer players to stay and become established can always be tricky, and that maybe an indication of the time of year with summer/winter vacations ending. Olinski is healthy and we have no concerns.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Trinity Fister

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?I missed between August 14th-31st, so I cannot speak for the latter half of the month. That said, I was impressed by the DHs’ engagement in the MainSIM during the first two weeks! Chris Logan (Lt. JG Lovejoy), Hjortur Ingi (Lt. Cmdr. William Grey) and Rusty Boshankles (Lt. JG Valharra) got their staff involved in various tasks throughout the ship. They helped to fill the dead space while the sim was still developing. Similarly, Kieron Hoult (Lt. Symar) got the sickbay and prepared for some action planetside. It’s safe to say we’re set for some chaos this September!

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? Our JOs are engaged across the board from SideSIMs to the MainSIM. River (Lt. JG Kostas) and Allison Hanna (Ens. Zayne) started a sim surrounding music-making. Meanwhile, James Gray (Ens. Blaze) has jumped from place to place, trying to support the CE’s efforts to crack the cloaking-device-shaped nut. And Leonora V (Dr Dran) touched base with a rather… stoic physician. As I’ve mentioned before, the creativity among our JOs is always a delight to see. I’m excited to see where this SIM takes them!

Who is the shining star this month? None this month, but I’ll come prepped with some names and threads come October! :)

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: GM Report exempt due to no GM assigned. Chernov is a strong ship with strong writers who are able to come up with their own sims and keep the ship going and healthy. The DH’s on Chernov really stand out and do an amazing job. Post count is down this month, but the sims are still making stead progress, so we have no concerns. Ships go through slower and faster months and this was just a slower one for Chernov.

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Odin had chased a pirate ship to a small system outside Federation borders. After extensive investigations, the pirate ship was detected and boarded. The pirate crew has been transported off the ship and the CE and small team are now navigating the pirate ship back to Federation space.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

AFComm’s Comments: CO report exempt this month. The Odin has continued forward with the sim and making progress. There are only 2 extensive AWOLs that the command team is aware of and handling. Over all the Odin is a healthy ship.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: James Sinclair

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Saracen has crossed the Romulan / Federation border to investigate the appearance of a Federation ship being pursued by Romulans and marauding pirates. While negotiating with the Romulan Warbird’s Subcommander, two more vessels are on approach… but they cannot be identified.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? The sim is moving somewhat slow this period, but I see it picking up speed over the next few weeks.

AFComm’s Comments: No report exemptions this month. The sim is moving forward at a consistent pace for the Saracen. The crew is active, but as seems to be the norm across the site, people are LOA or slow in posting due to real life. Saracen has a strong crew and there are no current concerns.

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: J Ridgley

How is your ship looking overall? The ship in my opinion is stagnant, I’ve attempted different methods to encourage writing aswell as recruiting technique to encourage people to join to hopefully spark some forward motion however these attempts have been futile. I am unsure at this stage where to proceed, given that I have decided to resign from the simm myself due to lack of interest for the era and lack of help from the fleet.

It hasn’t helped with key writers deciding to drop the ship for thier own reasons.

Aware that the fleet itself is in a similar state on some of its ships likely due to post covid busy-ness its hard to remain engaged in a simm where you write every so often and often not to recieve a reply.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Unfortunately this month I am unable to provide such a post.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. For a look into future I think for the on coming CO should look to finish the current simm asap and perhaps look to make changes, encouraging side simms and perhaps a faster pace mission.

Executive Officer: Nicole Cline

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Activity has been in a lull for some time now, and we lost a few DHs. With the switch over in CO from Jake to Matt we’ve seen a few more DHs come and go - and hopefully the new team is here to stay.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Activity has been low across the ship, however our JOs have been participating in the main sim. We are attempting to recruit new officers and hoping to push activity up.

Who is the shining star this month? GM CockRoach, who keeps on pushing the sim along, and our crew as a whole for sticking with the Sentinel.

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The sim has kind of sadly ground to a halt due to the busy lives of everyone aboard. That said we made a little progress in finding the ship side drain is caused by an acidic blob feeding on the warp drive.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

AFComm’s Comments: We are very sorry to see Jake step down. He holds a lot of passion for the club and the Sentinel. There have been several crew losses this last month as well. The Sentinel crew continues to move forward with dedication to our TOS era ship. Rob has an interesting sim going with plenty for everyone to do. The new CO has been placed on board and is working with the XO and GM to get things settled and positions filled.

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: Jennifer Ward

How is your ship looking overall? This month has been slower than normal with posting, and some AWOLs that have been addressed. The crew is working through how best to assist the alien ship

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Jason has been amazing and really stepped into his role as XO. He has started a thread to keep everyone up to date on what each team knows for the different main sim threads and just really provided an outstanding and in depth character as Lt Cmdr Kohr. I love this post where Kohr is contemplating what he might want to eat. https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/viking/posts/149805/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. Jason and I have started a side sim for dinner in the captain’s mess for the senior staff. I am hoping this will encourage the other players to participate and do some character development and even start their own threads.

Executive Officer: Jason Wolfe

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? This month has been a bit rough for our department heads, some having unexpected AWOLs which caused hiccups here and there. Life can have a nasty habit of creeping up on the best of us at times, and a general lack of direction can derail even the best-laid story line. Overall the Viking is still struggling to find a footing with its new identity, and I believe each department head is doing the best they can with what they have.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?As our roster is still rather lacking in this department, our single and current junior member is managing to hold their own. Hopefully once we iron out the kinks in the Viking’s identity and stabilize activity amongst the current membership, we can draw in newer junior officers to help us create new and interesting sims.

Who is the shining star this month? Though he’s had his fair share of struggles, Sam Haynes has proven himself to be a writer dedicated to the development of his characters, as well as helping to maintain continuity and progression between each part of the main sim. It is this commitment to growth as both a writer and team player that exemplifies our work aboard the Viking, and will no doubt inspire others as time goes on. Keep up the good work!

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The crew of the Viking have now interacted with the “Lord” of the cyro-ship. The ship has been traveling for hundreds of years away from a dying planet. The “Lord” seems friendly enough but who knows. The Viking has chosen to recharge the ships batteries as opposed to giving the 1.2 liters of anti-matter the ship was requesting.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? It has been a nice balanced approach, so I don’t want to name names.

AFComm’s Comments: Viking has been slow posting this month. Again this seems to be a trend across the club at the moment. But people are posting and the command team is handling AWOLs as they crop up. New crew has arrived and the sim has made a step forward and getting ready to greet their new guest.

Over all the fleet has been moving slowly. We have replaced two COs this month. But the ships continue to make progress in their sims and the majoritiy of everyone on the crews remain within AWOL limits. We will be working with the new COs to ensure smooth transitions and to assist where we can.
