Edict #16
November 30, 2019
As the term winds down, I find a sense of relief that only comes with having accomplished… well, the place didn’t burn to the ground and the death threats subsided, so I guess that’s something.
I wanted one of my last acts to be one of recognition. An official accounting and acknowledgement of certain individuals and groups who have presented themselves in a consistently positive and productive fashion.

=/\= Owen Morgan =/\=

To quote our illustrious Academy Commandant: “Owen has stepped into the role of Vice Commandant this term and has taken to the role extremely well. He understands the importance of being professional and timely in all tasks I send his way and is always willing to step in and help when he notices something that needs attention. He is a great asset to the Academy!”

=/\= The New Member Materials Task Force - Thomas Bates, Steve Johnson, Emily S, and Ben Z =/\=

This commendation is for their work on the New Member Materials Task Force, which was jointly created by the Personnel Department and Academy for the term currently ending. These four members volunteered to go through quite a lot of material, review it and make recommendations. It was undoubtedly not an easy project, tedious at times, and done very much out of the lime-light. But they did an excellent job, producing a very workable list of recommendations that we can implement next term, and which will undoubtedly help us move forward on our membership retention issues. This was work that had fallen by the wayside for a long time in the club, resulting in a lot of materials that needed their attention, so it was very rewarding to the club that they were able to do this work. In addition, by volunteering for this project allowed the Academy and the Personnel Department to focus on the other items needing those departments’ attention this past term, which was also extremely helpful.
An extra thanks goes to Thomas for his work on coordinator the task Force, ensuring the work was properly assigned to the members, and consolidating the recommendations into a final report for the club administration.

My thanks to Daniel Lerner for such a glowing request for acknowledgement of these individuals.

=/\= Steven Sigle =/\=

Steven has been a source of support and assistance to many different departments and Cabinet personnel, myself included. His knowledge and experience have served to guide many discussions and help shape the club. We would be less without his input and candor.

=/\= Cale Reilly =/\=

Cale has worked tirelessly this term to support new members and to try to make sure everyone remembers that we’re really here to enjoy writing together.
In the past few months she has stepped up to fill some vacant and important roles, and is a constant source of encouragement and support for all our members. Our Panda is one of the pillars of this club, and we are lucky to have her with us.

I would personally like to thank all of you for showing me the patience and support you have. This club, this place and its people, is unique. Unique in that while we all have lives outside of the club, lives that can become quite messy and painful, we have a place where we can come and know that no matter what pitfalls we find ourselves trapped in, what nefarious schemes or just circumstances of bad luck… we have our shipmates. We have our crew. We have each other.

And that is something worth celebrating.

James Sinclair
Outgoing President
