Starfleet Academy Report - December 2019

As I stated in both ship FCOMM report comment section, we are at a chronic lack of cadets. While I am happy to discuss removing a ship, that won’t resolve the issue because the lack of cadets is so severe that it’s hardly worth having both ships going. We have four active cadets and that’s probably a higher number than the past few months, I’ll have to dig out my notes on that.

Beyond that, we have a single CE vacancy on the Endy to address.

Elsewhere in the department, once I have firmed up my staffing, I intend to begin a major overhaul of our documents. Some this will include coordinating with the personnel department, but basically we want to look at implementing the recommendations from the Materials Taskforce.

USS Challenger

Commanding Officer: Sarah Hemenway

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: The Challenger has had a solid month, moving along in the sim despite a few LOAs from myself and the senior staff. I’m very happy with the ship’s performance this month and I hope that everyone keeps up the fantastic work as we move into the slightly slower holiday season.

Spotlight: We welcomed a new cadet, Karen Stephens, who has been delighting all of us with her intricate back story. Ben Z. and Silke Fahl have done a fantastic job pushing the sim ahead while helping welcome Karen’s character into the fray.

Executive Officer: Steve Johnson

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Overall the Challenger is moving along the simm. It has been a bit slow with Geoff having a LOA in there, but we managed to keep moving forward. Hopefully we are almost to a conclusion point, and we can move things along.

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: Getting closer to the climax. The crew has been divided up and some have been held captive. It is interesting to watch the cadets grow and learn about the various aspects of the club through a SIM that seems to be enjoyed.

Spotlight: None this month. Everyone is doing great!

FComm’s Comments: Outside of a lack of cadets that is beyond the control of, well, everyone here in the Academy, the Challenger is in great shape and I have no major concerns. She’s ready for more cadets! :)

USS Endeavour

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: Overall the ship is doing quite well. I need a CE, but beyond that everyone is posting and keeping busy. We could, however, use some more cadets. That’s literally what we’re waiting on.

Executive Officer: Terry Sullivan

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: We’re still in the briefing stage of the new sim. we’ve got a murder to figure out. We’ve got a victim, we’ve got a suspect, but we need the move and how. If I know Gene, I’m sure he’s got some twists, turns, and red herrings we’ll have to work through.

As I have just joined the Endy, I’m looking forward to helping new players to RP the Starfleet way!!!

Gamemaster: Gene Gibbs

Crew Posting Level: 1
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: I applied crew posting level at 1 as there are no cadets presently aboard ..
So this month I’ve been picking away slowly at the sim introduction. Slowly because there is no rush with no Cadets and also because work has been a race to complete my year ends before Wookiee is off for the holidays in another week.

Basically we’re in a long staff meeting where one Mason Larden, a representative of the Magnus Corporation, is briefing the staff on a murder on one of their mining facilities. The victim, one Adam Scott, was the sheriff, and the prime suspect, his deputy. As this took in the near whole of the facility security, Starfleet was asked to assist in the investigation. This briefing has been focusing on the state of the facility, the main suspect, Willis Kramer, and the general mental health of the workers.

FComm’s Comments: The Endy needs a CE and some fresh cadets to tutor. The CO is presently working on the CE issue, as to the fresh cadet issue, hopefully those who deal directly with recruitment will read this and acknowledge that the Academy has a chronic lack of cadets. In the new term, if numbers don’t improve, we are going to have to look at scaling back the ship training program.
