Starfleet Academy Report - January 2020

Well, this month just flew by. Nothing major to report, aside from the fact we will looking to mothball the Endeavor later this month. There are a few ideas being bounced about the ship, however, so it likely won’t look completely like a decommissioning. More on this when it gets discussed, as we’re still just bouncing around ideas for the ship . I want to be clear here that it has nothing to do with having enough interested people to staff the ship. Yes, there is a lack of CE on the ship right now but that is due to me simply not filling the position due to this. This is simply because we do not have enough cadets passing through the Academy to warrant staffing two full ships.

Nothing major happened in December, due to me being worked to death in RL and also getting sick, but this coming month, Owen and I will be looking at implementing the taskforce recommendations. In particular, we will be starting to revamp the Syllabus and rearranging the content between the main Academy page and our campus board (right now they’re both identical and rather long, so we’re going to split the content up and arrange it so it’s much easier to read).

-Kat, Academy Commandant

USS Challenger

Commanding Officer: Sarah Hemenway

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: The Challenger has had a great month. We have two awesome new cadets to entertain us, the main sim is moving forward, and the senior staff is attempting to play poker in a side sim. The last week or so has been a little slower, but that’s expected with the relaxed posting requirement. I expect to see it pick up quickly in the new year.

Spotlight: Silke and Ben have particularly done excellent mentoring with our new cadets on posting etiquette, but I really want to recognize the entire crew on a great month.

Executive Officer: Steve Johnson

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: Overall the Challenger is doing great, especially with just coming out of the holidays. The crew is still regularly posting, and I believe we are rapidly approaching the end of the simm. In addition, the DH’s have started a poker game, both to help keep us entertained, but also to demonstrate to the cadets how to properly post, and even how we deal with meta-gaming.

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: Sim is going good. We continue to push towards the end. Mostly this month has been dominated by talking with the woodland creature. I believe people are having fun with it so we will keep it going. Still on target to wrap up Q1 2020

Spotlight: None this month

FComm’s Comments: Overall the Challenger is solid, with no vacancies which is great. I have nothing major to report for the Challenger, aside from keeping up the great work guys!

USS Endeavour

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: Overall the Endy is in good health, albeit with a lack of CE. However, we are in a transition phase that will be discussed shortly in Command, so stay tuned for that.

Executive Officer: Terry Sullivan

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: Unfortunately, this may be both my first and last post as the XO of the Endeavour. With the low number of new members joining, it’s been decided to remove one of the Academy ships. In this instance that’s the Endy.

BUT, it’s not all bad news. There is talk and discussions of using the Endy in some other capacity to keep it from getting mothballed at this time. At this time, I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you. Jail would not be a good place for me. A small guy with a pretty face like mine (cough cough), would have a full dance card at the prison prom!!!

With that being said, we’re at a wait and see what the powers that be decide moment. Stay tuned. . . . .

Gamemaster: Gene Gibbs

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: We made good progress until a) I got off of work for the holidays and b) the posting limits were relaxed. So I relaxed. Too much as I then got sick a week later and still am. However, apart from the cat being thrilled I am down with a bug, this report is a best guess as I’ve not been there yet to see where everyone is. The sim was chugging along with a lengthy presentation by a representative of the Magnus Corporation named Mason Larden. He presented the issue around the death of the sheriff of the mining facility presumably by the hand of his deputy. Some general company regulations were not followed and questions were raised to be explored on arrival. A simple mystery and examination perhaps? Unlikely.

FComm’s Comments: As hinted with the CO and XO report, we are looking to wind down the Endy, due to a real lack of new members coming in. We are not entirely sure what this will look like yet as there’s a few suggestions that will be discussed shortly. In the meantime, the crew will continue to aim to post within AWOL limits, however since the PDept will not be assigning us any new cadets, we will just sort of keep active until we learn more. I do want to take a minute to single out all members of the Endy crew for their volunteering to serve on an Academy ship, they all did an amazing job and are handling the impending news with poise and calm which I greatly appreciate.
