So it has come up in my experience with the XFleet that the process for decommissioning a vessel needs some adjustment. I propose the following addition to the ‘Decommissioning’ section:

“Ships recieving more than two probation notices in a three month period can, at the discretion of the SOX, be subject to immediate decommissioning.”

The issue this will address is crews being put on probation and posting like crazy long enough to come off of probation, and then falling off and being on probation again… wash, rinse, repeat.

If a ship cant maintain the mandated activity levels for this suggested period of time, it doesnt have the legs to remain healthy consistently.

How often does the issue come up?

Daniel

The last term it happened 3 times. In my time in XFleet? It happens more often than you would think.

James

Sorry, 3 is a typo. It happened 2 times.

James

I think this idea has really good merit. The whole point of X-Fleet is that people are exciting to try out some crazy new idea. If you reach the point where the people only post because they have to be constantly prompted to post by the SOX, then it defeats the whole point of X-Fleet. The ship goes from being this really exciting idea to a responsibility, at which point it’s probably time to move on to the next crazy idea.

It’s also not supposed to be SOX’s role to essentially have an AWOL reminder responsiblity similar to COs or FComms outside of X-Fleet. For the same reasons stated above: once you reach that point, the point of that X-Fleet ship is gone.

James’s number show that while it’s not a constant problem, it’s enough to justify a bylaw change to avoid this from becoming an ongoing pattern, and I think the formula proposed by James seems reasonable.

Daniel

I agree. As a former SOX, I can remember that this can, from time to time, pop up. A bylaw change would help establish a precedent for the future.

Jerome

Surprisingly I don’t believe I had to decom any ships during my time as SOX, but I’ve issued A LOT of notices so I understand the annoyance. Definitely agree with the suggested proposal.

-Ray

I have less experience than most of you with xfleet, but this sounds quite reasonable to me. I don’t see anything wrong the idea at all.

Dave

All,
This proposal will remain open through next Monday, August 3rd. After that, I’ll leave it to Sarah to deal with. :-D
