The Black Fleet Report - July 2020

USS Europa

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Janice B.

Crew Posting Level: 10
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: This month has been booming with posts as new arrivals from the academy join us. They have given life to new stories, and play a cast of wonderful characters among Europa’s stand out crew.

Main Sim: The strange signal appeared to be a Starfleet pod set adrift into space. Scans indicated life signs as command looks for clues. Not finding in the process, the CO orders it beamed into sickbay with a security detail nearby. Better safe than sorry after all.

Determined to finish their mission, the Europa continues to their destination. When they arrive, they spot what appears to be a space station above the planet. Much of the design is similar to Earth’s own early space age and seems to support their progression. However, it isn’t enough to confirm they have developed any warp capable technology. As the bridge crew debate and clarify what exactly they need to do, a small ship breaks off from the station and drifts into space. The CO orders for the Europa to scan it for more information. Who knows what they will find…

Meanwhile, Officer Zorell looks into the star system’s environment and its planet. Her fascination grew with each new thing learned, from the increased gravity (about 1.2G Earth Standard) to the arid landscape and limited water sources. These people had evolved beyond their limitations, including apply a similar method that Tenra used. If you’re like Zorell, then you too are wondering how these people’s evolutionary path went in such harsh conditions.

Spotlight: I would like to spotlight three wonderful players and one part of a Side Sim for this month: Brian Armstrong, Jennifer Ward, and Lindsay Bayes and the side sim Deck 2 - Cascade Failures. And special thanks to our CO, JoeP, for allowing Linds to do some heavy destruction on the ship. After Vora Zorell and the XO became trapped in the turbo lift, the same poor malfunction rippled across the surrounding Decks. Officers Trenton and Fayth decide to put their newly honed parkour skills to the test as they rush into action, hoping to save as many lives as they can. Isn’t it terrible when you walk out of the holodeck and everywhere is covered in flames and chaos?

Vacancies: Currently, all the departments have been filled. If anyone is interested in a JO position on the Europa, contact JoeP or me on the discord or in an email.

My first complete month with the ship has been a blast. I’ve enjoyed getting the sim underway and anticipating when the crew discovers my diabolical schemes. I kind of intended things to be a milk run, but then best intentions tend give way to GM tendencies.

Main Sim: The Europa was directed to investigate warp signatures detected at the location of a pre-warp civilization. Did they develop warp tech and start testing it or has the Prime Directive been broken? It’s kind of important to find out. If warp tech was achieved by this civilization then proceed with First Contact protocols.

On route to investigate the warp signatures, the Europa came across an emergency beacon which in turn led to an emergency cryo pod. Beaming it aboard and investigating who was inside, it was discovered to be Shane Warwick. Why are they in this region of space? How has fate conspired to bring them back aboard the Europa? What trouble lies in store with the seemingly coincidental reunion?

FComm’s Comments: CO and GM were not excused from reporting. That said i’m excited at the activity of the Europa! Those new cadets are as the XO put it booming things with the ship! I’m excited to see where the sim evolves from here and what the crew will do in the coming month into the next term. Overall the ship looks in good shape, and the motd is up to date though the ship profile needs an update given the influx of new crew.

USS Genesis

Commanding Officer: Luke Hung

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: Post sim posting has been very good and very active. We do have 2 or 3 that are seeming to pop in and out as needed but the rest of the crew are tearing it up.

The GM as started the next sim and the below decks crew have been dealing with it… Very interesting player growth there. Go Lieutenants.

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 9

Sim Overview: A new sim … The Genesis discovers a relatively new pulsar and nebula. Within it there seems to be a life form using the energy from the pulsar as nourishment.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: XO is not excused from reporting this month, sim wise the ship has just begun it and most of the crew seem engaged to look into things. Nothing too concerning otherwise. MOTD and ship profile is up to date

USS Merrimack

Commanding Officer: David Fergusson

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The “time machine” was built and operated without a glitch and the temporal anomalies removed from the Merrimack. Daniel left the ship. The Merrimack went to Deep Space K-5 for some R&R. The station is having a holomovie night. Captain Glen has been given some new orders and the Merrimack is having a refit.

The ship is back in fine form with good posting levels from all crew. Mike Monte has broken his wrist and over-run his LOA. Everyone else is within limits. We have taken on new crew - a Caitian engineer/ship designer Emi’ko played by Kirt Gartner and an MPCO Medic Robert Mooney played by Charles Stevens - who have already got started.

Spotlight:

Vacancies: Junior Science Officer, or pick any custom character i.e. Nurse, Yeoman, Navigator, Helm, Captain’s Chef, Ship’s Historian, Ship’s Physicist, and Transporter Chief. Contact the Captain directly to discuss further.

Ship Status: New sim starting up.

Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Sim Overview: We’re sorta just beginning the sim though as of yet the crew is still enjoying R&R. Sim wise the ship has been assigned after their R&R to follow some bread trails of comm and warp pulses to look to see if there is a newly undiscovered form of life somewhere near Deep Space K-5. Other then that things have been pretty good on the Merrimack, posting is solid though one or two brief awols hit the ship earlier in the month due to some life issues from what I heard.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: I really would have liked a more detailed description from the XO but otherwise glad to see all reports here we’re gotten in on time. As the lovely GM said the sim is just beginning with the crew enjoying some R&R and side simming. The ship is in good shape for things into the next term though there are two awols being looked into on the ship

Oed V

Commanding Officer: Russell Watt

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 4
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: The 1st August 2020 was the 18th year since Larry Garfield wrote the edict turning Oed V into an RPing area with its own Governor. For the 3 years before that, it was an RPing area but it had an administrator in the form of the Fleet 6 FComm/AFComm instead of a Governor. Initially, the Governor counted as an XO, not a CO. Among other things, this meant that people couldn’t be promoted on the planet … so if you joined Oed V as an Ensign, you would be an Ensign when you left Oed V. When Sarah became President the first time, one of her first actions was to update the chartering edict for Oed V to class the Governor as a CO for limits in place, and the Lt Governor to be classed as an XO. So, people could now have their characters promoted.

I held a ‘sit in’ in the Oed V channel in Discord in the lead up to and in the hours following the 1st August. The Tiger was able to join me and we discussed characters from the past and present of Oed V and the great players that have been part of Oed V over time. Galen, Sam, Ronnie and his nephew, the Sylvestors, the Ruddocks, Chief Engineer Scholl, Chief of Security Longstreet, the Klingon warriors, the various smugglers, the Marines, Linds’ scientists (who built our second dome) and yes, even the Super Hero who was with us for a while. And of course the players that have served as Governor or Lt Governor - among them Sy, Sarah, Kendra, Tony, Hjotur, Julia, Jeremy and Sidney deserve to be remembered fondly as well.

The Oed V Motd is being updated as is the resource page. Motd 90% done, and will be up this weekend. Resource page by end of month, should the current state of calmness remain …

Spotlight: Each person who currently contributes to Oed V or has contributed to Oed V in the past gets my spotlight this month. I’ve named the more recent Governors and Lt Governors above and some of the names of past/present characters that come instantly to mind.

A special spotlight to the most wonderful Panda of all time, Cale! She’s made a new banner for Oed V, which looks absolutely awesome. Thank you Cale.

Vacancies: Still in need of Scientists … also our 2nd domed city is zoned for farming y’all, Anyone wanna try their hand at tilling the land for a bit?

We have space for both Civilian and Starfleet Scientists … the Civilian Science Chief (in charge of our terraforming efforts) gets the use of a runabout (fully fueled and maintained) for the length of their service. Currently Doc Sweeney is trying to run the terraforming, and it isn’t pretty. :P

CSO and Starfleet Scientists likewise have opportunities not available to their colleagues on Starships - you’ll be called on to lecture at the Rabbitus Memorial School on your Science area of interest AND checkout the brightest young minds as they start their progress through Starfleet Academy - Oed V is one of the testing sites for Starfleet Academy, afterall.

Doctors are in demand as well. Learn about new and amazing species that haven’t been seen before, and their physiology and medical needs. And watch out for the Janitor at the hospital, particularly if you have a habit of leaving mess around.

The Governor also has an opening for a Chief of Staff … help ensure that the only voices he hears are the voices he should be hearing - his advisors. Smooth ruffled feathers of Starfleet officers. The Governor is somewhat addicted to subspace messaging and holodecks, so you may need to take firm action …

JOs in general across all departments and civilians of all shapes and sizes. If you have a concept, reach out, and we’ll talk.

Executive Officer: Sidney Parker

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: OED is struggling again but not as bad as in the past. This month there was plenty of posting going on but it is lagging. I give it an overall 6 because I think its all there to improve.

Spotlight: Melissa Aragon and James Sinclair are posting great. Good work!

Vacancies: The usual SF characters are needed and some civilian cabinet ones.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: Despite being an ‘adult’ now OED V in my opinion is in a bit of rough shape. Quite a few AWOLS at the time of this report writing, and activity though ok for some is low for others. That said I hope the setting thrives and improves in the coming month and term with the next FCOMM

USS Wolverine

Commanding Officer: Terry Sullivan

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: So most of the crew have been informed as to what the ship’s current mission objective is–gathering artifacts and storing them away for safe keeping before anyforeign power gets their hands on one and decides to destroy the Federation with a snap of the fingers. These artifacts in the wrong hands could definitely affect the balance of power in the universe.

Currently, the ships sensors are being modified to detect these artifacts to at least give us the direction we should be looking. Right now, there are three, possibly four artifacts on the Wolverine. A rapier that is currently in the possession of the captain, a coin whichgives the effect of being drunk if it is held for two long, a toy car that seems to be able to draw power from other objects (it was in fact an instrument used in attempt on Capt. Boudreaux’s life), and lastly a pin that mysteriously appeared as a gift to our CMO, Dr. Locksley..

The crew is on the hunt for information as to why all these artifacts are showing up now on Risa, as well as who brought them here. Once the sensors are modified, we’ll be heading to Starbase 247 to get supplies and containment units to be able to transporrt and handle the artifacts.

The mystery continues. . . .

Spotlight: Have to give a pat on the back to our GM, Jason Lee. We are only at the tip of the iceberg for what he has planned for the Wolverine!!

He has a well thought out backstory and extended plot that he has really put a lot of time and effort into. I’m happy to give him a stage to see his story played out. I can see this a being a series of sims that can be run for a long time!!

Vacancies: We’ve got at least one JO in every dept. except medical, so I would like to see that fill

Sim Overview: Warehouse 13 crossover
Currently discovered the ship is being targeted by artifacts to kill the Captain.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: XO not excused from reporting. The sim seems in full go mode and the positions are fully staffed barring medical so kudos to the ship for this. There is some AWOLS and an LOA at the time of this writing but nothing too serious.

Robert Archer

Small addendum to the Europa GM section since I missed Rob’s deadline.
