Hi everyone,

Below is the revised alt ship charter proposal that Sharon has come up with based on the feedback presented here. I asked to be the one to post it so that I could ask that we keep this conversation focused on the validity and viability of this as an alt ship in STF, not on the Leviathan’s current status as an X-Fleet ship. The fact that it currently exists as an X-Fleet ship is not precisely relevant. The review period listed here is by the executive’s request since this is a very new concept for STF and one we want to make sure has long term longevity. If, after 90 days, it’s just not something that works for the club, it can easily be decommissioned without any issues or impact. The intent is that it will apply for self-sim status per OGRE, but the charter does not specify this to allow for the ship to seek a GM in the future if so desired.

Thank you, Sharon, for your hard work and willingness to come forward with this proposal!

Sarah

Overview

The USS Leviathan is a starship-based RPG set within a classified Starfleet division called the ARU (Anomaly Recovery Unit). Activity on the ship will centre around the daily routines of the ARU members and the anomalies they are regularly sent to contend with.

The USS Leviathan will remain an active roleplaying area, provided that it meets the following criteria:

  • It maintains a healthy roleplaying environment with a crew who remain largely within the outlined AWOL guidelines
  • It continues to deliver stories and scenarios based within the world of the ARU and anomaly capture and containment
  • Any command or senior staff vacancies are filled within 14 days where possible

The ability of the USS Leviathan to deliver a healthy environment will be reviewed every 90 days for a period of 1 year (a total of 4 reviews). If, after this period has concluded, the USS Leviathan continues to deliver a healthy, roleplaying environment, then it will be fully approved with no further review periods necessary.

Crew Structure

The USS Leviathan shall have a similar command structure to other Starfleet vessels, including all standard departments, rank structure and chain of command. Additional swing positions may be added under the CO’s discretion, without being limited to demands of canon positions, but maintaining the ARU focus of the environment. Examples might include:

  • RTF Commander
  • RTF Operative
  • Novel Researcher
  • Senior Researcher
  • Consultant Researcher

CO and XO positions on the Leviathan will count fully towards any limits in place. For the initial 90 day review, character ranks will not count toward OOC ranks, therefore, no rank promotions will be applicable to member rank. Following the 90 day review, character ranks on the Leviathan will count toward member rank the same as on Standard Ships.

Why is this addendum necessary? This is the creation of an entirely new RP environment which is named and themed the same way as a ship in X-Fleet; it is not a transfer of a vessel from X-Fleet to the main fleet. Given that, while a club member could certainly re-create their X-Fleet character for the Alt-RPG, it would need to be within the regular club standards. No other ship in STF’s main fleet, Alt-RPG or otherwise, has this kind of addendum. If this is really a new Alt-RPG, concerns with character rank versus club rank shouldn’t be an issue, and there doesn’t seem to be a good reason for deviation.

The Leviathan will be a second character ship only and will not accept new players. The posting rate for all crew will be that of a medium paced ship (3/5/7 days).

I would suggest that you change the word “players” to “club members”.

Resources

The Leviathan’s MOTD is to include relevant information on the ARU. This may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • ARU History
  • Definition of ARU Classification levels
  • Definition of ARU Research Corps positions
  • Definition of Anomaly Classifications (types and levels)

Overall, I think this is a decent way to bring the Leviathan into the main fleet. I suggest the Infinite Fleet as a placement, given the Fleet’s current status as a three-ship fleet compared to everywhere else in the club, but that’s something for the FComm’s to figure out, not me.

Nicholas V.

In general, I think this is a fine idea. Can you just give me a little information on how sims will actually work?

-Sam
