HISTORY AND MISSION OVERVIEW

Nearly 10 years after the creation of the Avenger class starship, Starfleet Command decided that a new class of starship would be created to go above and beyond the capabilities of both of the Defiant and Avenger classes. This new class of starship, the Brazen-class, would be built to serve on the front lines and combat the Federation’s current enemies like the Flarn, Orion pirates, and rogue Romulans, just to name a few. In 2388, it took engineers a few months to design the ship that would replace the Avenger. This new ship was to carry the state of the art sensors, weaponry, and shielding. It wasn’t until two years later, in 2390, that the first Brazen class was set for its maiden voyage.

The Brazen Class starship will continue in the roles of its sister classes and partake in missions including, but are not limited to, the following:

System patrols
Search and rescue
Sabotage
Escort
Scouting

STRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION

The Brazen is designed with the nacelles built into the sides of the ship, which runs ¾ the length of the ship, and are heavily shielded, which makes them less of a target in a battle. The ship was created into a circular design. The nose of the ship stuck out in front, while the nacelles created a rectangular wing shape along the edges. The Brazen class hull is designed to be built with 9.5cm of ablative armor with structural alloys that span the entire ship. The ship is also equipped with articulated/jettisonable hull plates to allow access to the ship’s exterior. The hull interior is made up of 3 layers. Inside each layer is reinforced tritanium alloys and foam plastic. If the need arises, the Brazen has the capability to automatically construct sectional force fields used by their own emergency power to quickly seal breaches.

The Brazen class was designed to be able to land on most terrain, so atmospheric thrusters were included. These thrusters are located in the hull and are designed to allow the ship to easily land on surfaces up to 1.9g environments. Since the ship is capable of surface landings, the designers added landing struts in a square pattern at the bottom of the ship. The Brazen’s ideal landing is on a flat and stable structure/ground. On average, it would take the ship 2-3 minutes for the ship to land, however it would take the ship 4-6 minutes for the ship to take off and reach space.

SCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING SYSTEMS

The Brazen’s Type 7 high resolution sensors can reach a range of 3.11 light years, whereas the low resolution sensors can reach a range of 11 light years. The sensors on the Brazen class are modeled after the standard sensor pallets used on other starships. As with the Avenger Class starship, the Brazen’s sensor clusters can be brought into reinforced slots during battle. While that procedure ultimately reduces the effectiveness of the sensors by 45 percent, the sensors are protected from any weapons fire.

-COMPUTER SYSTEMS

To maintain the abundance of the ship’s systems and memory, the Brazen is equipped with isolinear computer grids which are located on the center most areas of decks 5 and 6. The computer system uses bio-neural circuitry. The ship is equipped with the LCARS software package.

The Brazen Class is equipped with the same advanced AI program as found on the Memorial class battle cruiser. The Enhanced Neural Image, Navigation, Tactical, and Defense Intelligence (ENINTADI) is a self aware neural imaged Al, able to coordinate ship navigation, tactical, and defensive systems. While this system also has the ability to take full control over the ship’s systems, voice authorization is required by the Captain and first officer.

-SENSOR MASKING AND MISDIRECTION ALGORITHMS

The Brazen class also includes efforts made by Starfleet Intelligence to give the ship some combat stealth and misdirection capability. It includes pre-written programs within the computer to initiate sensor ghosting, false sensor signals, and targeting disruption algorithms run by the ENINTADI Al system. While not perfectly effective, this solution does provide increased efforts of disguise over more general starships using such decoys.

-HOLOGRAPHIC SYSYEMS

This ship is equipped with an EMH Mark IV. Holo emitters are located in all critical parts of the ship, with access to the bridge, engineering, the science lab, all cargo bays, sickbay, and corridors.

WARP PROPULSION SYSTEM

The ship has a 1649 Cochrane Rating Class 7 Warp Core as the Main power source. In case of an emergency, the Brazen may eject the core out the aft section of the hull, since the core runs horizontally. The Engineering section runs from decks 4 through 6. The Brazen is able to sustain a standard cruising speed of warp 6, a max sustainable speed of warp 9, a max velocity speed of warp 9.2 for 12 hours, and an emergency speed of warp 9.5 for 3 hours.

IMPULSE PROPULSION SYSTEM

The Brazen’s two impulse engines are located on the aft of Decks 3 and 4. To combat time dilation effects, the Brazen has a maximum impulse speed of 0.30c, which is coupled with combat RCS thruster packs, located around key positions of the ship’s hull to maximize its maneuverability. The ship has both an acceleration and deceleration time of 20 seconds.

TACTICAL SYSTEMS

-DEFENSIVE SHIELDS

The Brazen Class starship is equipped with Type 10 shields that allow for a Max Graviton Load of 2150 MW and a Max Dissipation Rate of 5.84 X 10^5kW. The ship’s Main Deflector is built into the nose of the ship.

-PHASER SYSTEMS

The Brazen class has four Type 10 phaser strips located in the wings of the ship; two on each wing. They are located dorsally and ventrally respectively. There are also four forward Type 10 pulse fire phaser cannons located in the nose of the ship. Each phaser array has a Max Energy output of 5.1MW and a range of 150,000 km.

-TORPEDO SYSTEMS

The Brazen Class has five Type 3 torpedo tubes, 2 in the bow and 3 aft, which are capable of multi launch fire. That means two torpedoes could be fired every four seconds. The Brazen Class starship is capable of carrying 100 casings. However, the standard payload is usually between 60 and 70 casings. That number comes out to 30 photon torpedoes, 15 quantum torpedoes, and 25 probes.

COMMAND AND SUPPORT SYSTEMS

-MAIN BRIDGE

The Bridge is sunken into the first deck of the ship to offer it more protection.

The aft section of the bridge (behind the mission specialist) contains 5 stations/consoles. Facing forward they are port to starboard:

-Operations/Communications station
-Support Science 1 console
-Engineering Support 1 console
-Miscellaneous/Auxiliary 1 console
-Tactical/Security station

The Captain’s chair is located directly in the center of the bridge with a guard rail that forms a half circle behind the chair. Built into the guard rail, directly behind the Captain’s chair, is the mission specialist’s console. Centered halfway between the Command chairs and the viewscreen is the combined Helm/Navigation station. Facing forward on the starboard side of the Bridge is the Chief Engineer’s station, and facing forward on the port side of the Bridge is the Chief Science Officer’s station.

Access to this location is possible by 2 turbolifts. One is located between the Operations and Support Science stations and the other is located between the Auxiliary and Tactical stations.

-CONFERENCE ROOM

The conference room entrance is located between the Operations station and the Chief Science Officer’s station. It is furnished by a medium sized table with round corners, able to seat 8 people comfortably. The conference room also contains a LCARS display and a small replicator.

-READY ROOM

The entrance to the Captain’s ready room is located between the Tactical station and Chief Engineer’s station. The Ready Room is furnished by a L-shaped desk, computer and small replicator. The ship’s Captain has the option of a small book case or an extra arm chair.

-MAIN ENGINEERING

Due to the size of the Brazen’s hull, the warp core was positioned horizontally. This allowed the power transfer conduits to run from one wing to the other. With the warp core positioned how it is, it could be ejected from the aft section of the ship in 7 seconds.

The upper deck starts on deck 3 of Engineering, and allows engineers to access the upper and lower Impulse Engines. The mid level or Main Engineering is located on deck 4, and houses the warp core. This is also where the Chief Engineer’s office is located. The lower level is located on deck 5 and houses the machine shop as well as Engineering control monitors.

-MACHINE SHOP

The machine shop is located on deck 5, the bottom level of Engineering. This allows a starship to make any parts that they need, without going to a Starbase.

-SECURITY STATION AND DETENTION CELLS

The security station is located on Deck 4. There the Chief of Security, or another security officer, can monitor the two detention cells that could hold a max of 3 people each. Within the Security Station is a room which houses an entire wall that shows the ship’s current security status.

-ARMORY

The ship’s armory is located in the Security Center. The armory is equipped with 75 handheld type 2 phasers and 25 type 3 phaser rifles. The Brazen is also equipped with 5 PSP-1s, 3 Sentry guns, and 10 WTR-600s which could be used in lieu of tricorders.

-GENERAL SCIENCE LABORATORY

Due to the size of the Brazen, there is only one science lab which is located on Deck 2. The lab is a modular single room. That means it is able to support many scientific fields of study, and can have the modules switched out by either starbase engineers or ship’s machine shop.

UTILITY SYSTEMS

-CARGO BAYS

With external bay doors, the ship’s three cargo bays are equipped with two small cargo transporters (Cargo Bay A and C). The crew can also turn one of the Cargo bays into a Triage center or a larger science lab. The Cargo bay’s upper level is located on deck 2 and its lower level is on deck 3. Due to the nature of some of its missions, the Brazen Class starship is capable of operating for 18 months without being resupplied.

-TRACTOR BEAM SYSTEMS

The ship has a tractor beam emitter located dorsal aft on deck 2, with a range of 25,000 km, while the main emitter is located on the bottom or ventral aft of the ship, with a range of 45,000km.

-TRANSPORTER SYSTEMS

The transporter room aboard the Brazen, is located on deck 4, with in the port section of the ship. The transporter pad is able to beam up to 6 people each. Due to the high resolution buffers, both normal and cargo transporters have a range of 45,000 km.

There are 2 emergency pads, one on deck 3 and the other on deck 5. Both are able to transport a maximum of 4 people per cycle at a range of 35,000 km.

CREW SUPPORT SYSTEMS

-SICKBAY

The ship’s sickbay is located on Deck 6. It’s split up into 3 sections or rooms. The first section is the Examination and Emergency Room. The standard setup has two biobeds and a permanent table. The table can be removed and replaced with a third biobed, if needed.The second section is where the medical storage and bio labs are located.The third section is where the Chief Medical Officer’s office is located. There, the Chief Medical Officer can review patient status from monitors located on the wall.

Holo emitters are located throughout sickbay to support the Emergency Medical Hologram. The medical staff only has 12 official staff members, so members of the science department are optionally cross trained in the medical department as Emergency Medics.

-COUNSELOR’S OFFICE

While not always assigned, Starfleet thought that a Counselor could serve as a de facto moral officer, along with their psychology role, on longer missions. Inside the office, one could set up a desk, 3 chairs, and a computer. Decoration would be left up to the assigned Counselor.

-ENLISTED QUARTERS

The Enlisted quarters are on deck 3. Due to the small structure of the ship, the crew quarters are each 35 square meters. Each room houses four enlisted crew. Each quarters has two bunk beds, one on each of the port and starboard walls, with a table and two chairs in the center. A washroom is shared between two quarters of eight people. The washroom contains four sonic shower stalls, four water toilet stalls, and two sinks.

-JUNIOR OFFICER’S QUARTERS

The Junior Officers’ quarters are on deck 4 and are 30 square meters The quarters contain one twin sized bed to the starboard side of the room. The room also contains a desk with two chairs, plus a console that allows access to the ship’s database.

Washrooms are shared between every three quarters, or three people. They contain three sonic showers, three toilet stalls and two sink.

-DEPARTMENT HEAD’S QUARTERS

There are four Senior Officers’ Quarters located on Deck 5, and a further four are located on Deck 3. These 35 square meter rooms include a single full size bed, with a work desk that includes computer access to the ship’s database, and two chairs. Two quarters or two people would share a washroom. These washrooms have one sonic shower, two toilet stalls, and one sink.

-CO AND XO QUARTERS

The CO and XO quarters on Deck 6 include a king size bed, a workstation with access to internal comms and the ship’s database. They also have a private washroom to themselves which contains one sonic bathtub/shower that can be turned into a hot tub, one toilet stall, and one sink for each cabin. These two also have access to a small food replicator.

-V.I.P QUARTERS

There are 3 VIP Quarters on deck 5 and are arranged the same as the CO and XO quarters. The atmosphere in the quarters may be changed to Class H, K, L, M, N, and N(2) environments. These rooms come standard with a single bed and a work desk, along with a replicator.

  • MESS HALL

The mess hall on deck 5 is where the crew eats and entertains themselves. Five replicators line the walls, while 8 small tables, with 3 chairs per table, are scattered in the front, while 3 lounge chairs and a couch surrounded a low table in the back. Under the table are numerous board games that could be played as entertainment. Because there aren’t any windows in the mess hall, several LCARS displays are used to provide entertainment for those who occupy the room.

-HOLOSUITE

The ship’s holosuite is located on deck 7 and is much smaller than an average holodeck, due to the size of the ship. During normal operations, one must reserve a spot through the Operations department, to save resources. During critical missions in space or during red alert, the holosuites are turned off. The ship’s EMH is also able to have access to the holosuite.

AUXILIARY SPACECRAFT SYSTEMS

The Brazen Class can hold two shuttle craft. Due to the size of the landing bay, which is located on the port and starboard of Deck 1 (There are two entrances), only shuttles at or under ten meters in length or 6 meters in width are able to be used. The ship comes standard with two Armadillo class shuttles.
