Personnel Weapons

Description of Technology:

Back History

Almost since its inception in 2161 the Starfleet Marine Corps had made use of standard Starfleet naval personnel armaments. However, over the years time and again inventive Marine Corps Engineers began to experiment with making their own unique personnel weapons for the heavier forms of combat they would face. These efforts though rarely came to anything of worth until the outbreak of the Dominion War. Where finally, coupled with, Project - Battle Adaptive Dress, Armament & Suit Systems the Marine Corps gained variations on standard Starfleet weapon outfittings.

Description Of Technology

Going by the name Project - Battle Adaptive Dress, Armament & Suit Systems, this project was broken into two parts, one that created the Battle Dress Combat Suit, and the other that created Marine specific versions of the Type 1-3 phasers and other hand or land based equipment.

MC-Type-1 Cricket Phaser: Though Starfleet had long since retired the official use of the Type-1 ‘Cricket’ phaser by 2370. Starfleet Marines continued to make use of the surplus and on their own modified these useful hand phasers for their own use. The MC-Type-1 Cricket phaser still retains the standard 4 base settings the Type-1f uses. However, unlike the Type-1f the body casing of the MC-Type-1 was expanded by 1.5 cm to account for better handling, as well as the increased battery charge. Allowing the MC-Type-1 to produce improved power output and range by almost 15% over the normal Type-1f.

MC-Type-2 Dustbuster Phaser: The MC-Type-2 ‘Dustbuster’ as it’s sometimes called by joking officers and noncoms is similar in appearance to its currently used Starfleet counterpart. But like the MC-Type-1 an expanded casing and grip handle for better hold, as well as more secure holsters for heavy combat were modified for the Marine Corps use. The powerback is also enhanced to produce a longer beam and damage output by almost 10% over the standard Starfleet Type-2. Further, in a callback to the late 23rd century the MC-Type-2 can be slid under the barrel of any MC-Type-3 rifle further outputting its own firepower and range by nearly 50%.

MC-Type-3 Variable ABCD Rifle: The MC-Type-3 Variable ABCD Rifle combines the singular beam Starfleet’s Type-3A rifle with the rotating frequency emissions of the Type-3B with the optional heavier firing pulse pattern of the Type-3C. This allows Starfleet’s Marines to fire either singular narrow/wide beams or rapid fire pulses during combat situations. Coupled to this is an easy detach/attach firing mechanism allowing easy change over to the Type-3D EVA variant for space use. Another added Marine specific device is the enhanced sniper scope harking back to a similar rifle variant used by Starfleet MACO forces in the mid 2150s. As previously mentioned an MC-Type-2 phaser can be attached to the underside barrel enhancing the power output and range of the MC-Type-3 by 50%.

MC-Photon Grenade: The variable setting MC-Photon Grenade is almost exactly the same as its Starfleet counterpart except it has a larger casing which contains a 6th setting and use that is a gaseous emissions device. Able to allow Starfleet Marines to dispense non-lethal knock out gas or lay down an effective smoke screen over a 50 yard radius.

MC-Heavy Weapons: Because the various heavier combat weapons in use by Starfleet during the Dominion War were deemed sufficient and no major changes to Marine Corps issued heavy weapons such as the Tetyron pulse launcher, Isomagnetic distegtrator, or Mark-1 Photon Mortar were made.
