Kirt has submitted the following spec for review. In the absence of any record of the official department mandates specified by the ENERGIE, I’m going on the historical context provided by previous EDirs and setting a two week review period to end on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 12:00 pm ET. It is my personal preference that you please TRIM your post to include only the portion you are providing feedback on to be polite to our mobile users.

History And Mission Overview

In the aftermath of the battle of Wolf 359 the Mariner class cruisers were given an emergency refit to modern specs to fill the gap of lost ships. However, at the end of this refit it was realized the now Kearsarge class was reaching the end of its useful lifespan, thus a replacement cruiser was requested by Star-Fleets exploration command and colonial divisions in 2367. Thus by 2370 design and field production of the Hero class was begun.

By 2373 eight of these mid-sized explorers were completed but due to wartime constraints no further ships were constructed. It was during the second battle of Chin’toka that these ships proved their worth in the war effort by being easy to maintain, repair, and showed their durability. Although during this battle four of the eight ships were lost to the Breen Energy Dissipator weapon, the fast turnaround of repairs for the remaining four convinced Star-fleet to begin plans for a refit and a continued production. However, before the refit renewed production could begin the Dominion war ended in 2375.

Finally, in 2376 the four surviving ships of the class were called into drydock for extensive refit and a requisition put out for a further nine ships of the class to these new standards. By 2379 shortly after the battle of the Bassen Rift refit and construction of the now 13 Hero class explorers was completed. This class once regulated to secondary patrols and missions within Federation space now became a rugged explorer ready to tackle a variety of exploration and other support functions.

Structure And Construction

The hull of the Hero Class is made of a 50/50 Duranium-tritanium composite mix superstructure. With 2.0cm of Rodium armor plating along its entire hull. The saucer is shaped as a rounded/angular diamond tapering back to a boxy trapezoidal aft end, with two integrated warp nacelles. The saucer blends evenly down to the stardrive section which is shaped as a teardrop near the forward sections, with the rear tapering back to a narrow arrow head point. Rising in a crescent moon shape to port and starboard are the ships two cylindrical warp nacelles.

The saucer section is comprised of decks 1-15 with the stardrive composed of decks 16-33. During the refit 2376, a small triangular shaped mission module was added to expand the class support capabilities. This module was placed between the ship’s two stardrive nacelles and pylons.

Saucer Separation

The Hero Class is capable of saucer separation with both sections capable of warp travel. Separation occurs between decks 15 and 16 with in two minutes of the order given by the ship’s commanding officer.

Mission Modules

When required the Hero class can be equipped with the following mission modules. When not needed there is no module section included on the ship. The four types of modules that can be equipped are:

Expanded Cargo Module - This module contains two large cargo bays with a single transporter for each bay and associated emitter and power systems.

Planetary Colonization Module - This module contains provisions, storage and rooms for up to 100 colonists. This is primarily used to resupply and staff already established colonies.

Expanded Weapons Module - This module contains two more Type-6 burst fire torpedo launchers with 50 casings each made up of either photon or quantum torpedoes. It also contains two Type-10 phaser arrays on the dorsal side of the module to port and starboard containing 20 emitters each. It also contains 4 fusion reactors and crew rooms for supporting and manning the module.

Expanded Fleet Support Module - This module contains an expanded machine shop and large cargo bay and aft facing cargo doors. The module is primarily used for fleet and colonial support of engineering efforts in mass scale repairs or maintenance during a crisis.

Computer and Network Systems

The Hero comes equipped with two computer cores. Both cores for ease of maintenance are made of up isolinear network and data storage chips. The primary core is located on decks 5 through 8 within the star drive section’s neck. The secondary core is located on decks 18 through 21 in the saucer section. The Hero class makes use of the LCARS OS and MAJEL interface, as is standard throughout the fleet.

Sensor Systems

The Hero class is equipped with the Type-10 sensor system. It has a maximum high resolution range of 5 light years and a low resolution range of 17 light years. The ship’s main deflector dish is located on decks 30 through 33 in a circular shaped inset. The Hero class has a secondary deflector dish set on the forward section of Deck 15, it is small and rectangular in shape and is only used when the saucer is separated from the stardrive section, allowing the saucer to be able to travel at warp.

Warp Propulsion Systems

The Hero class makes use of two Class-9 warp cores. The system has a max Cochrane output of 3,053+ a cruising speed of warp 7.0 a maximum sustainable speed of warp 9.6, a 12 hour maximum velocity of warp 9.975 and an emergency speed of 9.985 for six hours.

Both cores feed the ship’s four nacelles during normal operations, and both sections during saucer separation. During seperation the emergency speed is reduced by half to 3 hours.

The saucer core is located on decks 2 and 3 ejected out the top of the aft section of the saucer in an emergency. While the star drive’s core is located in decks 32 and 33 near the centerline of the ship ejected out the bottom in an emergency.

Impulse Propulsion Systems

The Hero class houses three impulse engines. One dual injector engine is located on the saucer on decks 2 and 3 along the center aft line, while the second and third engines are located on the underside of the star drive section on decks 32 and 33.

Together these three engines propel the ship while joined to a maximum thrust of .25c in 50 seconds and to a stop in that same time. When separated the saucer can accelerate to .25c in one minute and 15 seconds, while the stardrive accelerates to .25c in an even minute. Similar to what would be later found on the Mythology class the Hero class contains extended fusion reactors for stronger power supply, fuel processing and storage for extended missions.

Tactical Systems

Defensive Shields

The Hero class originally mounted a Type-9 shield system, but during the post-war refit this was upgraded to the Type 10 shield system, with integrated metaphasic shield programming as standard. Emitters are placed in key positions along the whole width and breadth of the ship’s frame. The maximum graviton load that can be sustained is 2,150 megawatts and a maximum dissipation rate of 5.84 x 10^5 kW.

Phaser Systems

The Hero class originally contained 12 Type-8 phasers, but with the post-war refit now makes use of 13 Type-10 phaser arrays positioned as follows:

One arrowhead shaped strip ventral and dorsal along the saucer with 200 emitters each.
One strip to port and starboard on the ventral and dorsal side of the saucer with 20 emitters each.
One strip to port and starboard on the ventral side of the nacelle pylons with 20 emitters each.
One strip along the underbelly of the star drive section keel with 100 emitters each.
One strip to port and starboard ventral and dorsal along the aft end of the ship with 10 emitters each.

Each strip can output 5.1 megawatts out to 300,000km.

Torpedo Systems

The Hero class originally mounted two Type-5 burst fire torpedo launchers forward and aft on deck 30 below the main deflector dish and above the star drive impulse engines, but with the refit this system was upgraded to the newer Type-6. Each launcher is capable of firing up to 12 torpedoes every 8 seconds.

The ship carries 300 casings: 100 of these are for photon torpedoes, 100 for quantum torpedoes, and a further 100 are for specialized probes. They have a maximum effective range of 3,500,000 km.

Command And Support Systems

Main Bridge

The Hero class’s main bridge is located on the middle sections of deck 1; arranged in an angular triangle shape. Along the aft wall of the bridge are two engineering consoles and the Chief Science Officer station. To port of the science station is a combination auxiliary and communications station. To starboard of the engineering stations is a the ship’s status display. In front of the aft displays is a horseshoe-shaped railing which wraps around the around the captain, executive officer and counselor/mission specialist chairs, all three of these chairs have a swing up console for these officer’s use. In front of the commanding officer’s station to port and starboard is an Operations and tactical/security station, and forward of these two is the helm station. In front of all these is the ship’s main view screen. A turbolift to the port side of the bridge allows dedicated access to the secondary bridge on deck 16, while another turbolift to starboard of the view screen allows general access elsewhere. To the aft starboard side of the bridge is the door to the CO’s ready room while to the aft port side is the door to the ship’s Briefing Room.

Secondary Bridge

The Secondary bridge is located on Deck 16 it is laid out the same as the main bridge, though with closer confines.

Ready Room

The ready room is located aft of the bridge on the starboard side it contains a desk, two chairs and replicator, the wall space can be modified to house the captains personal effects thus allowing captains some ability to make their office more homely.

Briefing Room

Located forward starboard of the bridge, just aft from the turbolift, is the briefing room. This room curves around the outer edges of the bridge. A large table able to seat twelve is present, as well as a large display screen along the bridge facing wall.

Ship’s Brig

The Hero class contains two brig cells each capable of holding 4 occupants each. They are both located to port and starboard on deck 27 of the star drive section.

Security Office

The chief of security’s office is connected directly to both ship brigs on deck 27. It also contains a small hand to hand training room, and 4 lane firing range for security certifications and refresher courses.

Science Labs

Located on the entirety of deck 17 of the star drive are the Hero class’s assorted science labs. The class comes equipped with two general science labs, two cybernetics, two robotics, two chemistry, two planetary biology and a single botany, astrometrics and stellar cartography lab. The chief science officer office connects directly to the stellar cartography lab.

Main Engineering

Main engineering is situated on the aft sections of decks 2 and 3 with the ship’s primary warp core. This flat cone shaped room has two levels, the one on deck 2 primarily controls the warp core and ship’s power allocations while deck 3’s section contains emergency ejection and secondary ship status controls. Located aft side of deck 2 is the chief engineer’s office.

Secondary Engineering

The Hero class’s secondary engineering room is located on the middle aft sections of decks 32 and 33 housing the ship’s secondary warp core. It is laid out and sized exactly like the one in the saucer.

Utility Systems

Cargo Bays

The Cargo Bays of the Hero Class all have cargo transporters to help facilitate the resupply of colonies and starbases while also allowing for the distribution of the cargo throughout the ship. Also, the 2 Large Cargo bays are the only ones with doors to the outside for loading these bays. They can also in times of such need temporarily support fighter squadrons or other auxiliary craft that are away from their mothership. These large bays are located on Deck 5 and 6 to the aft end of the saucer section. The Hero Class also supports 4 Medium sized Cargo bays and 6 small cargo bays these are located in the stardrive section on Decks 25 26 27 and 28 the 4 medium cargo bays are on deck 27 and the 6 small cargo bays are spread out on decks 25, 26 and 28 There is one extra small cargo bay located on Deck 29 and is directly connected to the Machine shop

Machine Shop

The Machine shop is located in the stardrive section on Deck 28 and 29 like most machine shops it can fashion most essential parts for not just the Hero Class but other ships and bases with in the ships database it can also create parts provided a schematic for colonial needs are on hand.

Tractor Beam Systems

The Hero class contains 3 large tractor emitters. One is located dorsally on deck 4 facing aft, while another is located within the connecting neck of the star drive section above main deflector dish on deck 29, and the third is located ventrally along the aft end of the ship below the main shuttle bay on deck 30. The emitters can handle a variable amount of mass depending on power supply out to a range of 3,000 km.

Transporter Systems

The Hero class supports 4 standard 6-person Transporter rooms with on decks X and X there are also 2 12-person Emergency Transporter rooms located on decks X and X

Turbolift Systems

The Hero class uses the standard turbolift systems throughout the fleet. A maintenance room is located on deck 17.

Crew Support Systems


Due to the strange rise in holodeck injuries before and after the Dominion War, Main Sickbay is located on Deck 10 near the ship’s holodecks in the saucer section. It houses 8 biobeds and an single surgery ward. The Chief Medical officers office is located to the aft port side of the sickbay. A secondary sickbay is located on deck 21 however this sickbay has 4 bio beds and is used more for triage and emergency care.

Counselling Office

The Hero class’s counseling office is located on the forward port side of deck 4 in the saucer.

Holographic Systems

The Hero class is equipped with 3 Holodecks located on Decks 9 and 10 in the saucer section.

10-Forward/Mess Hall

The ship’s 10-Forward lounge and mess hall is located on the forward edge of the saucer on deck 10. Capable of housing twenty crew members at a time among an assortment of tables that are overseen by a room spanning large bay window into space.


The Hero class contains a single medium sized arboretum on deck 21 along the forward sections.

CO’s Quarters

The CO’s quarters contour along the starboard side of deck 2. The quarters have a main room with a work area and living space/kitchen. The second part of the room is a large bedroom with storage closet and bathroom suite. There is also a side room/spare bedroom that can be modified however the captain desires

XO’s Quarters

The XO Quarters are laid out exactly as the CO quarters on deck 2 and are in fact next to the CO quarters with the side rooms opposite from the rooms to either side to save space and to allow for a symetrical linking of the rooms on a deck plan

Department Head Quarters

The Department Head Quarters are located on Deck 2 and are laid out exactly the same as the CO and XO Quarters however the Spare Bedroom/side room is smaller than the CO and XO ones

Junior Officer Quarters

The Junior officer quarters are located on various decks throughout the ship and are a single rectangle shaped room with a small offshooting room that contains a bathroom which allows for not much more than the bog standard amenities.

Non-commissioned Crew Quarters

The Non-commissioned Crew Quarters are spartan and set up so that 2-4 crew members will share a set of quarters. The rooms have one shared replicator and a shared bathroom area with a sonic shower and the other amenities. The room is shaped in a rectangle with a sub-room that alternates from the forward starboard side to the aft port side making the rooms on a drawn plan look as if they are symmetrically linked

General Guest Quarters

The General guest Quarters are exactly the same layout as the Junior Officer Quarters

Family Quarters

The Family Quarters supported by the Hero class are exactly the same as the Department head Quarters these are located in the saucer section and are limited on a first come first serve basis they are located on decks 9, 10 and 11

Auxiliary Spacecraft Systems

The Hero Class supports 2 Shuttle bays the Secondary located in the saucer at the aft end of Deck 9 while the Main Shuttle Bay is located on Deck 25 in the Stardrive at the stern of the ship these bays allow for

Captain’s Yacht: The Captain’s Yacht is mounted to the underside of the Saucer section right in the center the Flying Angel Class Racing Yacht serves in this role

The Hero Class is named after Heroes of Myth and Legendary heroics from human history. The four prewar survivors have a different set of registry numbers then those that came later post Dominion War.
