Robert Archer has submitted a second draft of the TOS/DSC-era Independence-Class Heavy Frigate for review. It is intended for use with the TOS-themed USS Sentinel, given that the Governor-class has a duplicate in the Kurtzman-class USS Chernov, and the design states that it was built in 2257, which is after the intended start point of the Sentinel. Feel free to take a look and give your feedback, especially if you have knowledge particular to either series that could be helpful.

The review period will end on 31 August 2020.

So, I don’t know if this will matter at all, but STF previously had an Independence class, designed by Colin Wyers. The only ship ever commissioned of it was the ship-of-the-class USS Independence, which later was changed over to SB202, and had the Independence attached much like DS9 had the Defiant.

Given the ship you mention is/was a TNG era design and class and this is a TOS/DSC era Nick can correct me if I’m wrong but this shouldnt matter.

Robert Archer

Thanks Nathan and Robert … Nick and I will discuss and get back to you. Whether the class name needs to change or not, I think the review can still proceed however. I’m sure that Nick will chime in and correct me if I’m wrong.

My apologies, I meant to include Ben in the internal EDept discussion, sorry Dockmaster Simons. :D

Thank you for your input, Nathan. The issue required some deliberation before coming to a decision. For now, the review for the TOS-era Independence-class will remain open. The information regarding a previous Independence-class will be taken into consideration as part of the review process. No decision regarding whether the specification should be renamed has yet been made.

No worries Rus, always next time. However, in regards to this, lookng over things there are no active ships (even npc ships) that use the Independence-class specs so I don’t think there should be any issues on that side of things.

Now, onto the spec itself.

History and Mission Overview
First thing I noticed here was just a spelling thing ” It was with this in mind that Starfleet put the call out for a multi-role rugged frigate, one which though smaller then common cruiser designs could perform just as well in a variety of situations.”
- I’m sure then should be than - but this is just a small spelling thing.

== Good catch! This and some others someone else privately found for me will be in the next draft!

Mission Profiles
More a question here - Planetary and astrological event crisis response, management and containment - what services are provided for evacuation, the emergency evacuation limit seems a little low for this, or is that just me thinking strangely? I’ve also noticed a lack of facilities to support planetary crises on the ship, but that might be intention. As a result, it seems to me the specs would suggest that it’s more a supportive role in this.

The rest has already been addressed by the looks of things - and that’s all I noticed on this pass, I’ll have another read through and if I notice anything else I’ll let you know

== This is how I envisioned it a support role, though I guess it would make sense then to remove it? Hmm something to ponder.
