In keeping with with my theme of Member Questions: I would like to know your political positions about the STF club.

(1) Do you believe that the club is a quasi-democracy or does it run by the Iron hand of the President and Vice-President? Please explain.

(2) Specifically, for the Vice-President Candiates, do you believe that you should bring members concerns to the President’s attention or are they just to busy?

Hi Tim,

The club works more as a quasi-democracy. It has an elected President and Vice President and while some may be more direct or firm than others each one relies on the advice and good work of fellow members appointed by the President to positions in Cabinet. The President’s powers are not unlimited, there is no despotic regime, and any that do not work with their Cabinet when issues arise to get the right information and the right outcome is bound to run into problems or make existing ones worse in the long run, for themselves or the other members of the club. The President and their Veep should have the club and membership in mind, working with people instead of ruling with an iron hand.

At the top of the chain, the President is there to make the calls, write the edicts and bills that the club uses in our administration. Each of those choices would have and should have been discussed with the members they themselves appointed to the positions that are involved with those choices, and with other experienced members in the Presidents confidence. There is a wealth of experience the President has to call on when gathering the information to make their choices. Most members don’t see the hours spent weighing decisions, and instead see the President’s actions as heavy-handed. It is in the end the responsibility of the President to make the difficult decisions the club has to face.
