Hi! I’m Nathan. The likelihood is you’ve never heard of me. I returned to the club about 7 months ago - after a 20 year absence.
I first joined STF in 1997(!), when the WeBB was just a few months old. I helped establish the very first fast ship in STF (I miss thee, Titania); was the second FComm-5 (before it even had the nickname “Meridian Fleet”); and spent time as an AFComm, AEDir, EDir, and 2APDir (my name is actually still on the PDept history page). STF was my home in late high school, early college, and I made some lifelong friends. Then real life, as it always does, reared its ugly head.
Since leaving, I’ve been a national martial arts champion, ran a martial arts school for a few years, gotten married (17 years this year!), now have four kids, and work for my city government as a programmer. I still love Trek (just got my oldest into it, too) and all things science fiction. I’ve kept tabs on STF over the years, and finally found myself in a position I could say “Yeah, I’ve got the free time for that!” and immediately fell back in love with this place.
Since returning, I’ve gone through the Academy ship (which didn’t exist the first time I was here), where I now serve as Counselor and help new members get to know their characters, STF, and our posting style, and help with cadet evaluations and providing guidance and assistance to the ship DHs behind-the-scenes. I’m on a few more ships working with great people, where we can all revel in our shared joy of the Star Trek universe and create characters we’ll cherish for years.
