Campaign HQ - Daniel and Nathan - Platform Introduction

Posted March 7, 2021, 2:02 p.m. by Vice Admiral Daniel Lerner (Presidential Candidate) (Daniel Lerner)

Over the next few days, Nathan and I will be sharing some of the ideas we want to explore next term. Of course, as those who have been in the cabinet or exec for a while start to learn, most of a term is spent just doing the day-to-day running of the club, keeping the lights on and addressing all those unexpected issues that come up that makes being in the cabinet or on the exec so much fun. That is why in prior elections - both as a candidate and a non-candidate - I have always advocated voting for a candidate who you know can handle those day-to-day items and unexpected issues.

But Nathan and I do want to share the areas we want to work on and address if elected.

In most areas of our platform, the CMM role will play a major part, and we will be sharing in a separate post our vision for the expansion and growth of CMM - not just for the next term but a growth and expansion that will inevitably cover the next few terms.

That CMM work will naturally lead into the three pillars that are so important you will always hear about them in an STF election: recruitment, retention (and exploration) and mentorship.

In our post about recruitment, we will be focusing on that vision for the expansion and growth of CMM, what that will inevitably look like in a future club, and what we can do next term to start that next stage.

In our post about retention and exploration, we will share some of the ideas we have about having our “newer” members (members two years or less and more senior members that just want to learn more about STF) have more opportunities to explore and engage in STF and learn what opportunities there are. We will also be using that to address some of the areas that need more member involvement, such as GM-ing.

In our post about mentorship, instead of writing about the current work the Academy is doing on specific mentorship program (work that we plan to fully support next term) we want to use our election platform to talk about more direct mentorship we want to do at a senior level of the club - something that is often missed when the people usually talk about mentorship.

We will also be sharing a summary of each of these platform posts at the end of this week, combined with a few additional areas we want to work on this term.

Our platform posts will be laid out in a series of posts over the course of this week. We feel this is the best way for members to distill the vision we are sharing and follow up with specific questions they may have.
