Hi Candidates,

discussions and platforms so far seem to have centered mainly around government - getting more members engaged with the government side of things and into governmental roles - and less around the core purpose of this club, which is roleplaying. So my two questions are:

  1. Do you consider government to be more important than ships and roleplaying in STF? Please explain your answer.

2a. Sarah/Rob, I know you’ve touched on this briefly in your platform introduction in “Bringing the Unique Back” so, at the risk of stealing future thunder, I’d love to know more about this point and what it will entail.

2b. Jerome/James, you haven’t mentioned the RPing side of things at all in your key platform points, so do you consider the RP environment at STF to be perfect? And if not, do you have any plans to change/improve on it?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Sharon, that is an excellent question. RP is the core of literally everything we do. I am comfortable speaking for both Jerome and myself when I say that our belief is that the government is here to support the RP environment, not the other way around. However, we are both cognizant of the fact that in order to have a healthy RP environment, we have to have a government who is capable of maintaining that so the heart and soul of the club thrives and grows.

As far as the RP that exists in the club now… we feel that no system is perfect, of course. But both Jerome and I love what we have, but we are open to, indeed hoping for, new ideas to make the club even better. Part of our plan is to bring newer members into governmental roles so that their ideas have a chance to be tried out and incorporated into what we do, always keeping in mind that what we do is RP. And every idea we put forth should have as its ultimate goal to make the RP environment better.

Thank you for the great question, Sharon.

Thank you for your answer, James. I’d just like to follow up on one point please.

You say:

Part of our plan is to bring newer members into governmental roles so that their ideas have a chance to be tried out and incorporated into what we do, always keeping in mind that what we do is RP.

Do you believe that players have to be part of government to get their ideas heard? What about if they have great RPing ideas but no desire to be involved in the actual government side of things? Does that lack of governmental interest disqualify them from being able to suggest ideas elsewhere?

Thanks again in advance.

Excellent qualifier. What I was speaking of specifically was ideas for government and club administration. Now, I do not believe that our club is set up so that you have to be in government to be heard, but I feel that sometimes that is unfortunately the unconciouss practice.
With regards to RP ideas, I think we as a club are much more open and accepting of new ideas and creative endeavors. And no, I have never seen or thought that a lack of desire to be part of the government is any kind of handicap to inventing and creating new RP environments. If it did, we would be stifling creativity in favor or bureaucracy and that should not ever be an issue we face.

James
