I would like to endorse Jerome Davis and James Sinclair for President and Vice President of STF. While I did nominate them for president, that does not mean they necessarily were going to get my endorsement as the election progressed. I have nominated someone for the presidency before based on conversations with them however through the course of the election the language and ideas of another party gained my vote and endorsement in the end. I am only mentioning this because our job is to pick the right candidate for us in the end that will see the things we want to happen in the club. For me, that is the Davis-Sinclair ticket. What struck me most was not the platform of promises. All candidates have platforms with goals and objectives. This is how we first meet them and learn their ideas. How we get to know them is the answers they give when asked questions. For me, Jerome and James gave their best honest and candid answers to questions even I had never thought about. Their answers to me did not contain presidential promises lost to the ethernet once the ballots were cast but were the words of two STF members that had a desire to make changes and were willing to listen and change those ideas based on club members willing to share their ideas/concerns with them.
So why do I trust James as VP?
Each and every time I have reached out to James in an official capacity as either the President from last term or as the FComm this term, he has listened to my thoughts and questions. Some ideas he embraced. Other ideas he said flat no to and others ideas he worked with me so that I felt like I was heard and valued. When James did not have an answer to a question, he not only found out the answer but included me in the conversations with the other party so that nothing was ever lost in translation as I received the answer to a question or solution to a problem. So why do I trust Jerome to be the next STF president?
If you know the history behind Jerome and me the first thought in your mind is why are they even speaking? If not it should be your first question. In absolute transparency, Jerome and I had a miserable start in STF together. The point of me mentioning this isn’t to drag up past events but to show even when Jerome should not have answered my PMs…he did. When I reached out and said do you have a minute his answer was always… yes. Several times over the past four years when I have needed help, guidance, and an unbiased assessment of an idea or issue…he was always there. The reason this is so special is that he didn’t have to do talk to me. He could have thrown a name at me or not even acted as I contacted him yet every time he did respond and help. Jerome listened to me. He advised me based on his year of experience in the club because I came to him for help. He did not let feelings come into play or even announce he had a bias in the conversation before I even started my question. He helped me because I needed it despite us having a rocky start. Why do I want the Davis/Sinclair as President and VP?
I love that Jerome and James have plans to develop an Inclusion & Diversity Plan. Roleplay is the main reason we initially come to STF. Community and friendship is why we stay. Their plan to increase awareness, build community, and foster collaboration within the membership along with having people to handle complaints of bullying, sexual & general harassment, unconscious bias, and other similar issues can only help improve the role-playing experience in STF.Everyone and every situation is unique in STF. The Inclusion & Diversity Plan will only strengthen the club by giving people a voice and a place to have their voices heard. This will also be a place STF members can reach out to when they are not comfortable coming to someone the club deems as your point of contact. The Inclusion and Diversity Plan has all the makings of a wonderful and meaningful program in STF. I for one would love to see a change like that happen during a presidential term.
Jerome and James…you have my vote.
