(snip)

No feedback here from me about the content which looks good to me..

But you don’t get away without me talking about archetypes and monomyths etc. ‘The Journey of the Hero’ … in all my time of interest in the monomyth structure and so forth, I’ve only ever heard it referred to as ‘The Hero’s Journey’ before now :). There is also a version called ‘The Virgin’s Promise’ in which the main character is not the type that goes out with guns blazing to kill the bad guys and rescue the maidens, but rather it focuses on the maiden that apparently wants/has to be rescued or the ‘downtroden’ in society, or the misfit on the edge of society who ‘obviously’ wants to fit in and wants to be brought ‘into the fold’. The virgin’s promise focuses on the journey of these characters and it sees how they have changed the world around them. ‘Self Care’ and ‘knowing your intrinsic wealth’ are importance concepts in this.

By the way, I don’t know if anyone else has encountered ‘Riverdale’, the retelling of the Archie comics, or not, but there are some very definite monomythic and meta moments in that series. A recent episode had Veronica and Betty talking, and Veronica acknowledged that them talking about Archie puts them low on the Bechdel scale/test. I must admit that I have gotten kind of addicted to the series. :P

Monomythical Tribble

Whole books are written on mythology and the different types of stories but I do agree that there are useful things in here for GMs to consider. I’m wondering if including a suggested reading section (either in the course or within the GMD would be worthwhile)? I’m open to suggestions about how best to go about this. we’ll have articles about that stuff in the Writer’s Hub that will be apart of the club resources, so that’s another thing to consider.

Any further feedback on this point? I’m actively doing revisions on the course, so if we want to add a section, that should be discussed quickly so it can be written. We can equally provide resources on this topic in The Writer’s Hub, where it can benefit all members and not just GMs.
