I would like to submit the following race for consideration:

Standard Name of Species (Scientific Name): Ool (Oolii Sapiens)
Date: 10/14/19
Author: Shalon Hurlbert
Type: Species
Homeworld: Oolass
Height: 1.3m to 1.4m (4’ 4” to 4’ 8”)
Weight: 70kg. (154lbs.)
Lifespan: 125
Starfleet: Rare
Classification: Custom

Overview: Ools look much like stout, vaguely-humanoid terrestrial toads. Their limbs are thick and both arms and legs end in 4 digits. Despite their short stature, they have a physical strength equivalent to humans. Their heads are wide with broad flat mouths with 24 teeth suited for an omnivorous diet. Like Humans, they are opportunistic eaters and have a similar diet including both animal and vegetable matter. Their necks are very short and seemingly non-exsistant. This means the range of motion for their heads is much more limited than a humans. For this reason, they have developed large, protuberant eyes located almost on the sides of their head allowing for a 270 degree field of vision. Their ears are small holes located just behind the jaw. Nostrils are widely set a short distance above the mouth. Ool voices are deep, most fall within the human baritone range. While clothed, males and females are indistinguishable to most other races since both sexes have internal genitalia.
Ools breed in large groups in brood pools where females release 2 to 4 eggs and males release sperm. The average brood is usually made up of 10-15 children from a mix of 4-6 parents. They do not have a concept of marriage or romance since, to an Ool, breeding is merely a necessary biological function. Family structure is made up of a brood of children and a small group of “Tenders” who are past breeding age to guide, and care for them. On average, Ools mature beyond breeding age between 40 and 50 years old. Tenders choose to be so. It is a career similar to teacher mixed with parent and nurse requiring years of education and training.
Ools are warm blooded. However, they are neither amphibian, reptile, or mammal as we would understand it on Earth. Their skin is thick and leathery and range from shades of brown to olive. They are hairless, with a layer of fat for warmth that gives them a soft look. Even the strongest Ool never looks “cut.”

History:The Ools inhabit Oolass, the second planet of five orbiting the star Tau Ceti Secundus, (Cartassa to the Ools) at 109 million km, an orbital distance close to that of Venus to Sol. Tau Ceti Secundus is a main sequence, spectral type G star similar to Sol, but only .78 of the mass. Oolass has a mass 1.18 times that of Earth and a radius of 6,899 km resulting in a a gravity 1.08 G. Oolass is orbited by a ring of dust and icy materials. It also has 3 small asteroidal moons.
Oolass is a Federation associate world ruled by a planet-wide Meritocratic Geniocracy in the form of a council made up of 800 representatives. They are highly technological, on par with humanity and have adopted many alien technologies that supplemented their own achievements. Oolass was made a protectorate of the Federation 2 years after making first contact with them. In only 4 more years they were granted Associate status after a rigorous application process and negotiation to further solidify relations. Those negotiations were responsible for the creation and placement of the Tau Ceti Secundus Propulsion Laboratory and Shipyard in orbit of Telthwyde, the third planet in the system. Ool is currently pursuing a full membership in the United Federation of Planets.

== I would be interested to know what year the Ools were first contacted and became a member. This would establish then roughly era timeline for ships that may time travel or something in sims.

There are over 180 culturally distinct groups on Ool, a remnant of a time when planetary rule was divided by governments based on regional holdings separated by geographic and philosophical differences. The Ools have adopted a single language to unite the species via communication, but hundreds of dialects exist, most markedly those on colony worlds.

I’ll open it up for a thirty day comment and revision window. If there is no feedback or objections the Librarian will be directed to add this entry to the reference manual.

Geoff

Thank you!

-Shalon

Bump. 10 Days left for comment.

== Sorry for a late reply just happened across this! Maybe a front page news item would be useful?

Robert Archer

I follow the Vogon strategy of public notification. grin

I’ll post a news item and reset the clock for two weeks.

Geoff

Let me do some calculations and I’ll figure the dates out.

Hearing no further commentary on the subject of this custom race, the Librarian will be directed to add it to the Reference manual.

Geoff
