As mentioned in my fleet report, I wish to make a GMD Mandate 19 or a GMD Policy for submissions to the reference manual.

My initial idea was “Ditto the EDept” and I still think we should follow their lead, or at least be consistent with their process. I have kind of been half following their process based on advise from Lindsey but I feel formalizing it will do us all good, and being consistent with EDept means the pbase doesn’t have to try and memorize two different process flows. Same flow, with the Ref Manual template for powers, races, and locations instead of the SSP.

Please provide your thoughts regarding formalizing the process.

Thanks,
Geoff

With the discovery of Mandate 14, is this something you’re still thinking about? What are you thinking about changing if so?

(There actually isn’t a mandated process in the EDept that I found while I was EDir [despite the fact that it’s a requirement in ENERGIE].)

Sarah

For those who are curious here is the link to Mandate 14

The mandated process is:

_4. ENTRY APPROVAL PROCESS

A prospective entry submission should first be posted in the Gamemaster Department, keeping to the format specified in the Reference Manual. The Archivist shall then deem the entry open for commentary and specify a review date for two weeks from the opening date. At this date, based on commentary from the members of the Gamemaster Department, as well as others who participated in the discussion, the Archivist shall declare the entry either accepted or returned to the author for revision. Reasons for return to author include, but are not limited to, questionable usefulness, improper formatting, inappropriate classification, and incompatibility with established Star Trek fact or common sense. The Archivist’s decision may be appealed to the Gamemaster Director. If the Gamemaster Director is the Archivist, it may be appealed to the Assistant Gamemaster Director. The decision of the Gamemaster Director or the Assistant Gamemaster Director is final._

Which means two things

  1. Sam is going to be focaling the three open items now, and I am going to stay out of it unless there is an appeal or other complaint.
  2. The topic of this thread is going to shift slightly:
Is 14 still relevant and correct? For that matter do any of the current mandates or OGRE need revised.
For example the Reference Manual itself doesn’t reference shared entries.
The Reference Manual only exists as a mandate

Basically, do we need to do any legislative updates this term or is everything in the GMDept groovy?

Geoff

I don’t think it’s a huge deal, but I feel we should be trying to steer away from documenting anything canon at this point. There are a lot of web sources that do it better than us. I think the ability to design custom species is one of the things that makes STF pretty unique, so shifting the focus to that may be ideal.

I’m probably missing something obvious, but what do you mean by “shared entries”?

Sarah

According to the mandate, not referenced in the RM mind you, a submitter can create a race that belongs to them alone, whereas a shared entity is something were other people can use it.

For example Geoffites could be a race that I create but you can’t use them in a sim or play them as a character, but I could open it up and let any one use it in their sim but I still “own” them and can update their history etc.
