In their nearly two million years of growth only twice has their species faced endangerment. The first in 26 BC (Earth Year), saw the growing late Medieval society greatly reduced in number due to overpopulation growth. This occurred due to the religious doctrine of the time preaching strong population growth and expansion. As a result the society took a sharp dive in stability due to an outbreak of a virulent plague on much of the planet. The second time was in 1950 AD (Earth Year). The Alstaire now into the late Information Age, were racked by a series of meteorite showers and ion storms which rained devastation upon the planet and its population. Creating a miniature ice-age which again greatly reduced the planet’s population and growth. As a result of these two events the Alstaire people take great pains to consider how their beliefs impact their society as well as others. They also eventually came to build advanced methods of deflecting, detecting and destroying meteorite or comet showers endangering population centers. If there is one hold over due to the second event especially, it is that there is a deep seated fear or at least nervous anxiety of meteorite and comet showers among the space faring population.

The bolded phrase has a slight grammatical error. “Overpopulation”, or “population growth” would work better.

I like this, but I might like to know more about some flaws they have. Be they physiological, cultural, or historical, the Alstaire are currently very perfect. You do make mention of a period called the “dark times” maybe some info on that could be helpful.

Well to a point that was on purpose, their society was made to be semi-utopian like alot like in the aliens in the episode Justice https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation) while the Alstaire dont got an alien device ruling over them or harsh laws to obtain the utopia they do got their faults, culturally as i mentioned they’re parinod/anxious like about ion storms, rogue comets/asteroids etc. They’ve developed technology to be better at detecting, deflecting or riding out such things on the colonies and home world. So there’s faults there.

So I’m fine with the utopian aspect of this society but I’ve read and re-read this a few times and I think what we’re missing to tie it all together is the crux of their shift from The Dark Times to the period of enlightenment. These things never happen for no reason. So I’m wondering if there was a particular incident or a growing movement that led to the tribes uniting and starting to make changes. If there was something like this, it would be good to explain it a little. It’s important in a historical perspective to look at those variables because this led to the society being what it is and it tells you all about the people’s beliefs and what is important to them. Who they are today will be traced back to this major event(s) so I think it’s worth spending a little more time talking about it.

Great entry! Thanks for the submission, Rob. :)
