The Wrong Number

Someone answers their phone but the caller has the wrong number. Write a story in which the call continues rather than ends. What might the consequences be?

(Max 350 Words)

“He had a heart attack!”
“.. uh, well, that sounds bad, bu-“
“YES, it’s bad! They say he’s got a blocked artery and they’re going to do an angioplasty in the next hour. You’ve got to come!”

“‘Who’? Helen. You know, Helen. God, what are they teaching people in rabbinical school these days?”
“I-“
“You know what, forget it. After this is over we’re going to find a new synagogue.”

There was an audible click as the handset on the other end of the line was forcefully placed back in the receiver. I really need to get an unlisted number, I thought as I hung up my own phone more gently.
