Hello Book club folks. So at the moment we are reading Ready Player one. Russ and I thought now would be a good time to post some questions and encourage a little discussion on how we are finding the book so far.

Therefore :)

1) what are your feelings of the overall setting/premise of the book so far
2) Which character are you most enjoying
3) what point so far if any do you want to see further explored
4) what are your main likes so far
5) what are your gripes

Panda

1) I like the concept and find this slightly futuristic world both realistic and intriguing.

2) There is something about the way the character writes Aech that makes you pay attention, even though it isn’t so obvious why at this point.

3) I’m not sure. I find that because there’s so much info conveyed in these early chapters that it’s hard to fully get a sense of the reality of the world around them. There are details, sure, but the overwhelming amount of info does the opposite of immerse you in the author’s creation.

4) The exchange between Parzival and Sorrento was rather amusing. The kid has guts, you have to give him that! It was just before and around this time that I finally started liking this book. And the end of their exchange and events immediately after make the whole scenario more real and less fantasy for the protagonist.

5) Not only is the beginning incredibly slow, I’m not a big fan of how the info dumps are done. I don’t specifically know what I would do to improve it, but I’ve read other authors who have very unique worlds that manage to integrate that information much better and more cohesively with the plot. I feel like the book really doesn’t get going until Chapter 11, which is a long time to wait and I can imagine some people giving up before then.
