I wanted to the galaxy and with my medical and counseling techniques I hoped I would be an asset to Starfleet and this ship.” Trax commented calmly. “Also maybe someday to find the love of my life. ” Trax did not say much more as he started thinking of his life and lack of love in it.

Cochrane smiled a bit, but took a sip from his glass to hide it. He had heard the same form many young officers over the course of his career. Setting down the glass, he said “Well, I am sure you will be an asset to the Ark Angel and her crew, Doctor. As far as the second part goes… well, I wish you luck. This life isn’t very conducive to long-lasting relationships. Trust me on that.” he added with a mildly self-deprecating chuckle.

“Thank you, sir! Trax commented noting the hidden chuckle. Noting that it was related to longer-lasting relationships. “I guess your saying there is no hope sir?” Trax asked the man as he waited for his meal and drinks.

Cochrane leaned back and laughed softly. “No, I’m not saying that at all. I know a few couples who have made it work. Hell, my sister has been married to her wife for almost ten years and they aren’t even stationed together. So hope is there. But just be aware. For every couple that makes it, there are dozens that don’t. But you never know, so you gotta be ready if the chance comes your way.”

“Thank you for the clarification. Sir!” Trax commented casually. He was not sure of what to say anymore as he waited for his drink to arrive.

“So did you always want to be a doctor?” Cochrane asked as the drinks arrived at the table.

“No sir! I wanted to be cook for the longest time but sooner or later i wanted to be a healer I hated to see people suffer in one degree to another. And Being a psychologist or a doctor was one way to become a healer. But I have always enjoyed repairing things too.” Trax commented as he took a sip of his drink.

“I see. So what made you choose Starfleet? You seem more like the ‘Settling down and raising a family’ type. Not that there is anything wrong with that. There are many times I have wished I was less… ‘nomadic’, I think is the best word for it.”

“Well I joined starfleet to see the galaxy and its wonders.” Trax commented casually as he took another drink of his drink. Trax ignored the commented of the settling down and raising the family type comment from the xo. “Nomadic?” as trax tried to understand the word and its context. “Ah I see your a wanderer.” Trax commented finally.

Cochrane smiled a took a sip of his drink. Setting the glass down, he said “Not so much a wanderer as I haven’t found a reason to stay put.” and then he sighed. “At least not one that lasted, anyway…” he added with a small look of regret.

“well sir I believe you have found a place or you would not have taken the xo position.” Trax commented with a small smile.

“Even Command postings aren’t permanent, Doctor. You are at the beginning of your career. You will have many, many more ships and crews to look back on by the time you reach Command. Which, I assume, is something you are contemplating?”

“Of course sir MAybe a starbase assignment or a starship but who knows there are plenty of jobs around sooner or later I will find my nitche.” Trax commented with a small smile. “I understand jobs dont last forever but I hope your going to be around for a while longer sir.”

Cochrane laughed out loud and a broad smile swept across his face. “Oh, I hope so too, Doctor. I’ll be here as long as the Skipper wants me.”

“I wonder where our food is?” Trax commented quickly. “I did not think I was that hungry but I am. Whats the phrase I am so hungry I can eat a horse?” Trax commented as he tryed to find the missing waiter.

“Having done so, I could actually recommend it. Not a bad dish.” Cochrane commented and looked around. At that point, the waiter came from the food prep area and made his way to the table. He sat the dishes down and refilled their drinks. Cochrane looked at his cheeseburger and onion rings and said “Ah. A veritable banquet for we weary spacefarers.”

“Thank the goddesses.” Trax commented flatly as he saw the food arrive. “It smells amazing sir.” as he grabbed the ketchup and put some on his burger and a small pile to the side of his onion rings. As he grabbed one and ate a ring. “MMM ” is all that escaped his lips as he devoured his ring then moved to the burger and put it back together and took a nice sized bite. “MMM” again escaped his lips. as he finished off the bite he had in his mouth after it was clear. “this is amazing sir!”
