OOC: Going on the assumption that anyone that would be helpful to the test managed to hear the news of them testing in Holodeck 4 :)

OCC: You guys really took off with this while I was on LOA. :)

IC: Heading to the Holodeck to get everything set up first he walked in with his PaDD in hand. Computer, sync with PaDD. Create simulation of current specifications for the USS Ark Angel, current location, Bridge. As the environment quickly shifted he walked around the bridge sitting and standing in each spot for important personnel. Occasionally they would each have a shift on night watch so sitting in the Captain’s chair wasn’t too unfamiliar to him though he kind of sat and bounced in it for a second. “Computer, replace 35% of the synthfoam with a memory foam of sorts.” The computer beeped and he bounced again. “Perfect, much more comfortable! Right!”

“Computer, pull data from PaDD and attach the listed capacitors and power cells to the EPS conduit in the listed coordinates.”

The computer calculated and after some time beeped indicating the changes were made. “Computer, is the power grid and shield matrix stable?” =^= Affirmative. =^=
So far so good.. “Computer, please generate the proposed shield modifications and apply them to the simulation. Self-adjust for any anomalies.” After a few more beeps Chris continued, “Computer is the shield matrix stable?” The computer beeped and listed off a few locations on where power cells and capacitors were moved to accommodate better power flow through the plasma conduits.

“Computer, create the following scenario for the simulation. Two Klingon Birds of Prey are cloaked 5km in a random direction in reference to the USS Ark Angel every time the simulation is launched. Ships have weapons powered and are prepared for an ambush.”

Lt. (jg) Chris Emmitt (CE)

Myrok was familiar with the holodeck although he did not require its needs much. He had heard there was a shield test in process and chose to lend his capabilities. ” Computer enter simulation Myrok 1 shield test chief engineer ” the computer beeped and with a loud tone stated “ENTER”

Ensign Myrok Scientist

Chris shot up from the chair the moment he heard the beeping from the console and turned around, almost breathing a sigh of relief when he saw the Ensign enter through the turbolift door. He had synchronized the entrance to enter through the turbo lift so the simulation didn’t do anything wierd like open up on a random wall. “Oh, you’re the new Science guy I had been hearing about! Haven’t gotten the chance to meet you yet! I’m Lt. (jg) Christopher Emmitt, the Chief Engineer. Chris is fine though .. or .. well … Lieutenant I suppose if other people are around?” He laughed a bit nervously before walking around towards the turbo lift to shake the Ensign’s hand. “Hopefully everything has been .. good so far while you’ve been here?”

Lt. (jg) Chris Emmitt (CE)

Myrok glanced around the simulation all aspects showed it was the bridge. He noticed the Chief Engineer put his hand out. “My curiosity is at a peak Lt.” He nodded a greeting towards the man but did not shake his hand. With hands clasped behind his back he looked over the instruments. ” How may I be of assistance to you sir.”

Ensign Myrok Scientist

Chris just kind of stood there with his hand held out before it clicked, “Oh .. that’s right, Vulcan’s don’t really do personal contact ..” He raised the same hand to scratch the side of his head. “Forgot about that …” He turned back around to view the rest of the bridge. All the chairs and console stations were currently empty. “If you can .. I think it would be the best of help if you could coordinate the majority of the sensors to monitor the shielding once it’s raised. We’re gonna be testing a hypothetical kind of regenerative shield that myself and the Chief Tactical Officer were going over earlier in his office. Well .. I guess he’s the Chief of Security now as well too ..? A-Anyway. Monitoring the stability and harmonics of the shielding matrix while in use would give a lot of data feedback that I’d need to try and help tweak the systems.” He tugged at the cuff of his sleeve pulling it down towards his wrist. “I hope I have all the power allocated correctly .. our biggest problem is just being able to vent the excess energy if too much is generated from the shielding. We’ve though of a few different methods to try and deal with it, but best thing we can do now is some good ‘ol testing!”

Lt. (jg) Chris Emmitt (CE)

Myrok raised one eyebrow and gazed at the junior officer.” I shall monitor the sensors sir and give as much intuitive feedback as possible. What you are attempting to do is....extraordinary. I look forward to A positive outcome.”

Ensign Myrok Scientist

The turbo lift doors and Cochrane stepped through and looked around. A broad smile crossed his features and he whistled in appreciation. “Nicely done, Chief!” and he walked around and looked at the instrument panels and readings. “Are these readings real time, or extrapolated from a specific point?” and he looked up and saw Myrok. “Good to see you, Ensign. Nice initiative coming to participate.”

Cochrane, XO

“Commander!” Chris didn’t really expect the CO or XO to make an appearance at this early test. “Ah, it’s.. umm .. technically from a specific point sir. It’s just a small ‘sandbox’ so to speak .. only about 100 AU in size, though it’s from our current location. I fed the telemetry in from our sensors from the last 24 hours.” Should give us enough space to maneuver around in sir.” Chris stepped off to the side, just in case the Commander wanted to take the Captain’s chair. “As for the ship itself .. it’s based off our current specifications along with some … modifications to the power grid and shield matrix. Which is what we’ll be testing today .. and hopefully it won’t blow up in our faces, we’re just testing our theory at the moment.”

Lt. (jg) Chris Emmitt (CE)

OOC: I think we posted at the same time lol adding your reply in so that we have one consistent thread!

-Mike

Myrok straightened A bit when he saw the XO enter the holodeck, he acknowledged the Commander with A respectful stance” Commander I must say I am not surprised to see you here, you as they say have the pulse of the ship.” Myrok actually grimaced A bit at his sorry attempt at joviality.

Ensign Myrok scientist

Cochrane looked at Myrok and said “Yep. Probably should have gone into the Medical section, eh?” with a wink and a smile. Cochrane was aware that the young Ensign was trying to reach out and become a solid member of the crew. Seeing him here and hearing his attempt at humor, as forced and unpracticed as it may have been, pleased the XO and showed some serious progress on Myrok’s part. Cochrane then looked at the Chief Engineer and said “Sounds good to me, Chief. Your sim, your ship. You take the center seat, and I’ll take my chair.” as he walked to the XO’s spot. “I will suggest you make Mr. Myrok the CSO for the sim’s purposes. It will give him a bit more control over the sensor array.” and he took his seat in the XO’s chair. he then looked at Emmitt and grinned. “Okay, Skipper. Let’s see what you’ve got.”

Cochrane, XO

Tiglath entered the holodeck. “Sorry, had to stop at at the restroom. ” He explained without looking around at who was in the room, he walked over to tactical. “I’ll take my spot at tactical, Oh, Hello Commander.” He said when he noticed the XO. Feeling a little sheepish.

-COS

Cochrane looked over at the Security Chief. “Heya, Lieutenant. Glad you could make it for Chief Emmitt’s little party.” he said with a smile. “If you can monitor shield strength and call out power levels as we go forward, that may help.” he added.

Myrok was concentrating on multiple sensors and only reacted to the XO’s comment till after A bit. Then swish at the door showed Lt Tiglath hurrying to tactical. Myrok was doing his best to focus, and then noticed something strange.”My shield sensors depict A drastic fall in capacitor power, is that usual Lt. Emmmitt?

Ensign Myrok scientist

Cochrane, XO

Chris tilted his head to the side as he walked over to his usual Engineering station and tapped on the console a few times. A small sigh came out of his mouth as his hand slowly slid up his face until it rested on his forehead for a moment. “Computer .. set simulation capacitors and power cells as fully charged and not empty please.”

=^= Acknowledged. =^= The computer completed a series of beeping before it continued. =^= All power cells and capacitors are at full capacity. =^=

Chris chuckled lightly and nervously. “Heh, that .. that would have been embarrassing. Wouldn’t have gotten off on the right foot if the first thing we do is die.”

Chris re-checked the power levels to confirm their charged state. “Looks like we should be okay now. The idea of the capacitors and power cells is to store the initial charge for the shielding to come online. The regenerative shielding draws an excessive power to start since it’s designed to bleed off the energy and radiation from phaser and disruptor fire. It won’t block out everything at first, but the idea is that the shield will modulate itself and adjust it’s frequency and harmonics to the incoming fire as it’s being fired.” Chris paused for a minute before continuing, “The circulation of power is basically discharged from the capacitors to initialize the shield and the power from the warp core and the bleed off from the shielding will restore power into the capacitors which will in turn re-charge the power cells they’re assigned to on the grid. The rest of the tactical systems and ship wide power need will draw directly from the batteries first while the shield is deployed so that we don’t strain the warp core. However, if the batteries are depleted, it can then switch dynamically to the EPS conduits from the warp core for power. If the shield is still deployed at that time .. I’m going to hope that it will be self sufficient at that time and can effectively power itself from the energy that’s being put back into the capacitors, which will in turn slowly charge the cells back.” Chris scratched his elbow for a second before holding his arms out in a half-shrug. “Sorry for the long explanation ..”

Lt. (jg) Chris Emmitt (CE)

Cochrane listened intently as the CE explained his new project. “Interesting. Let’s see how it functions in the simulation and then, if you don’t mind Chief, we can have a Q & A session after?”

Cochrane, XO

Myrok saw the capacitor strength increase and monitored A the Klingon ships simulated waited in ready to pounce when given the order. He had not done this kind of real-time simulation before, his concentration was sharp, this was .....fascinating.

Ensign Myrok Scientist

OOC: Adding a post in. Mark, no one knows about the 3 Klingon birds of prey yet :P Chris programmed them before anyone entered, though it is expected to be a combat test, but what kind of ship is unknown at the time lol

IC: “O-of course sir. Computer, please fill in missing personnel with a hologram AI.” The missing stations around them were instantly filled with the required personnel along with the helmsman, but they remained eerily still. “If you’d like sir .. the bridge is yours.” His hand extended towards the Captain’s chair in preparation for the start of the simulation as he stood by his Engineering station.

Lt. (jg) Chris Emmitt (CE)

OOC: oops sorry about that, my bad.

IC: Mrok stood intensely at his station waiting for the next order.

Ensign Myrok Scientist

Cochrane grinned and said “Your test, your rules Chief.” and he moved form the XO seat to the center chair. “Computer, begin simulation. Helm, bring us around on heading 2-3-9-point-6, full impulse. All stations report operational status.”

Cochrane, XO

OOC: I wonder if the XO notices the extra awesome cushioning? :D

IC: “Aye sir. Heading 2-3-9-point-6. Engaging impulse.”

AI-NLt. (jg)

The ship hummed to life upon the Commander’s order and the AI crew came to life with it tapping on their consoles and running through checks. The viewscreen shifted as the ship turned to the ordered heading, but not before a bright, burning, blue ball made it’s way from one side of the screen to the other. One by one the AI-manned stations reported as ready with their systems operational.

“Engineering is ready and on standby sir. Power systems stable, hull integrity intact, and damage control teams standing by within a safe distance from EPS conduit locations.. Power routing normally with the changes so far.”

Lt. (jg) Chris Emmitt (CE)

Myrok ran his fingers on the console in front of him,the science station was his, he did notice the AIs around him and reported” Science at the ready Captain.” Myrok saw the blue ball but belayed his sight and turned his attention to his station.

Ensign Myrok scientist

OOC: Just a friendly reminder to make sure to sign off on your posts :) Helps keep track of who’s posting!

Also, friendly bump for our Tactical/Security to make ready :D

-Mike

TIglath set up the shield. After a moment the new shields indicated ready. “Shield system online and ready.” Tiglath announced from tactical. He stood there watching, slightly anxious to see how this new shield system would work.
