Sadie pulled up a computer screen and began to take notes, grabbing a few screens to show arial photos of the alien planet’s surface. “Team, start analyzing these photos and let’s see what we can figure out about the culture and history of this place. NE Jackson…” she stammered slightly, looking at the young human officer. “Um… if you could lead a small team to see if we’re picking up any radio or television broadcasts, maybe we can learn more about them that way. Ensign Myrok, analyze these photos with the rest of the team. NE Orwell, could you and NE Jor’el liaison with the Counselor on cultural information, and NE Lee, I’d like you to see if you and NE Grant can get any information regarding the medical from the Med team,” she explained.

She then grabbed as much as she could about the native’s language and plugged in her headphones. She did this when she wanted to analyse something and didn’t want any interruptions, everyone who knew that would make sure no one who didn’t know it wouldn’t interrupt the CSO while she worked on getting a better understanding of the native language. She watched any and all video transmissions, disabling the auto-translator. Her second love was languages, after all. Right after Stellar Physics.

As the video feeds on record came up the society seemed quite human like, though quite peaceful. Disagreements being rare and far between and violence mostly kept in check by a strong mutual cultural belief of the greater whole/good. Seashells seemed quite common in the culture though for reasons as of yet not known by the cultural scientists who had done preliminary work. The language seemed quite simple really a harsh baritone sounding language similar to ancient Sumerian on Earth in some regards.

Sadie listened to the language, picking up on commonly spoken words that were likely proper nouns, and figuring out the syntax. After a while, she’d figured out the basic structure of the language and was able to understand it, with a little help from the universal translator. She grabbed hold of a radio transmission that seemed to be talking about the upcoming launch, seeing if she could pick up anything interesting about the people’s emotions regarding the upcoming flight. Were they nervous, excited…?

News about the FTL travel was common knowledge as of two weeks ago from the cultural probe studies the populace seemed interested but casual about the efforts.

Sadie kept looking into the culture and civilization, trying to figure out all she could in this short period of time.

Sadie

The information on file had been used up mostly, seems she was at the end of her research here. Best to report in to the Captain.
