Kalitta moved in front of Hill and just stared at him. He does have an imposing size. she thought. HIs movements were just what she was looking for. She then with no hesitation moved to punch Hill in the gut but was blocked by the Mok”bara move. “Very good Ensign.” Kalitta then tried the same move on Myrok, and was once again blocked by the defensive move.

“As you can tell this is a very effective move against your enemies. ”

Kalitta then moved to her spot and was facing the mirrors just like the Ensigns. “Time to move on to Something that is a little more advanced.” Kalitta then spread her feet shoulder width apart had her arms extended just like before but this time she raised one of her legs and arms at the same time. The opposite hand moved towards the elbow and the other hand went up and protected the face. Kalitta almost looked like the creature on earth called a praying mantis. The leg in the air looked like it could kick forward at any moment. She then slowly lowered the leg and hands at the same time and then did the same move with the opposite leg and hands.

“This move allows you the option of both protection and strike.” She then turned to the ensigns. “Now you try.”

Lt.Cmdr - Kalitta - CMO

Hill watched Kalitta, then assumed the positions and movements she had taken. To Hill it felt uncomfortable. He breathed deep, He felt his balance was a little bit off he could his ankle leaning to the left under his weight.

Hill, Sec

Kalitta noticed that Hill was a little off balance in the mirror. Without turning around she explained how he could improve his balance. “Ensign Hill, you should engage your abs when you bring your leg and arms up. Not only does it improve your balance but it helps if you are ever attacked. Imagine bringing your belly button to your spine. Make those muscles nice and tight.”

Kalitta engaged her abb muscles and began to punch her own stomach hard. “See the harder they are the better it is to take a hit.”

Lt.Cmdr - Kalitta - CMO

Hill nodded and tensed his midriff. He felt the strength and support increase and with that his balance become better. “This is effective,” He said. “to me it still seems peculiar, but I look forward to learning more. You should never shun a thing because you do not understand it.”

Hill, Sec

When catching wind of Mok’bara sessions in the Rec Room, Jasmijn knew there was absolutely no way she was going to pass that up. As a youth, DeVries had been no stranger to martial arts, finding it an effective way to return focus to the body. Her mentor, although much larger than she had been, was often the victor of their sprawls. Over time, years upon years of close observation, Jasmijn was finally able to defeat the ‘master’ at his own game. Smirking to herself, the thought a memory she held close to her heart, Jasmijn slipped through the doors, lurking to the far end of the room to watch.

XO

Kalitta noticed the XO come in but paid no mind to her presence. Kalitta then stopped what she was doing then turned and faced ensign Hill. “Hill, I want you to try and strike me.”

Lt.Cmdr - Kalitta - CMO

Hill raised an eyebrow. “Sir?”

He knew she’d be able to take the hit, she was Klingon after all. He just wasn’t sure he should be attacking senior officers.

He shrugged and pulled back his right hand smoothly swinging it towards Kalitta aiming to knock her on her backside.

Hill, Sec

Kalitta watched as Hill adjusted his weight to one foot and brought back his attacking arm. She then blocked it easily using a sweeping motion similar to what she was recently teaching him. She then twisted around grabbed him by the wrist and armpit and flung Hill over her shoulder onto the matted floor. “You see, it’s all about fluidity and preception. What do you think you could have done differently to strike me?”

Lt.Cmdr - Kalitta - CMO

Hill grunted as his punch missed and he landed hard on the mat. That was a little unexpected. He sat himself up looking up at Kalitta. “I could of been a lot less predictable and rather than using my brute strength I should of assessed the situation better and made a wiser move?” It was both a question and a bit of self assessment.

Hill, Sec

Kalitta nodded and held out her hand to help Hill back up onto his feet. “You are correct in your assessment. Get your self ready again for another attack, this time don’t lunge or use brute strength.” Kalitta had a flash of thought cross her mind. “Ensign… Have you ever heard of the term ‘Rope a dope’ it’s an earth boxing term, meaning you move like you are going to through a punch one way but instead through the punch with the opposite hand. I think you might excel in using this technique. I want you to attack me using the rope a dope move.” Kalitta then got into a defensive position.

Lt. Cmdr - Kalitta - CMO

OOC: Lt. Cmdr. DeVries will you be joining us?
OOC: Sure will!

“Understood.” Hill said as he pulled himself up off the mat.

He set himself into attacking stance. Slowly stepping forward looking for a hole in Kalitta’s defence.

He stopped short for a moment. He looked as if he was about to throw the same punch as before and mimicked throwing a left before swiftly dropping to a crouch swinging his lead leg out attempting to sweep Kalitta’s legs.

Hill, Sec

DeVries hovered near the edge, her arms folded across her chest, a foot bracing it’s bottom against the wall. She watched Oscar, his offense reminding her of some of the younger Marines she had worked with, before switching gears into Starfleet.

“Come on, Ensign.” She muttered to herself, convinced Oscar would find a way to pull this off. She’d never met the kid, but he had a fire about him. Obviously, Mok’bara was a new skill, but persevere could do much more than talent.

Deciding to hang back, until their spar was over, DeVries secretly cheered Hill on. She knew Kalitta was far more advanced, her skill incomparable to Hill’s. But the underdog had a way of pulling through, and she wondered if that’d be the case here.

**Bump

Kalitta was slightly surprised with the ensign’s choice of moves. She barely evaded the move but managed to kick the ensign in the chest which put him on his back. “Well done ensign!” She praised. “Your mistake with that move was losing your footing. All of your weight was on one foot and you were off balance.” Kalitta was now standing over top of the ensign her arm stretched out for him to grasp once he caught his breath.

Hill grunted as the kick landed and grasped at his ribs. It was a good clean strike and he wouldn’t complain about.

“Let me have a quick scan of you to make sure I didn’t break any of your ribs.”

” Don’t think anything is broken, just a little winded commander.” Hill said in some discomfort.

Once he was standing she went to her gym bag and took out her medical tricorder. She then went back to the ensign. “May I?” She asked gesturing the tricorder to him.

Lt.Cmdr - Kalitta - CMO

Hill lifted his arm up allowing Kalitta to scan his ribs. The scan would show slight bruising of the third and fourth ribs on his right side. ” That was a very informative session commander I look forward to our next lesson.”

Hill, Sec

Bump

“I have to agree with the good doctor; that was quite the performance.” Jasmijn smiled, making her way over. “With a little more practice, you might just be able to beat the master at her own game.” She tossed a wink to Kalitta.

“Is Mok’bara a newer practice of yours?” She asked the Ensign, while the scans were taking place.
